Chapter 201: Ambush
Chapter 201: Ambush
"Wait." Iruka waved his hand to signal his teammates to stop.
"What is it?" Belloqua asked, puzzled.
"Look over there," Iruka pointed in a certain direction.
Belloqua saw a group of three ninjas, aged around nine and dressed in the standard Leaf Village uniform, inquiring about something with the residents.
"There are actually Leaf ninjas here, but why is only one of them wearing the forehead protector and the uniform?" Belloqua wondered aloud.
Either they all conceal their identities by not wearing them, or they all agree to wear them together. What does it mean that two of them are not wearing them while one is?
Sensing their gaze, Kakashi also looked in Belloqua's direction. Noticing their unusual skin tone, his guard immediately went up. It didn't look like they had simply been out in the sun.
"Be careful, we might have come across the ninjas who injured the giant eagle. They're not wearing their forehead protectors," Kakashi warned quietly to Might Guy and Obito.
"They're pretty dark-skinned. Are they from the Cloud Village like the ones we encountered last time?" Although Kakashi didn't specify a direction, Obito soon spotted the trio with their distinct complexion.
"Most likely," Kakashi replied.
He didn't want to jump to conclusions, as the Cloud ninjas they had faced before had initially disguised themselves as Stone Village ninjas. This time, it could be Stone ninjas pretending to be from the Cloud.
Upon realizing that they had been spotted, Iruka unsheathed the sword on his back. With the Lightning Country and the Fire Country currently at war, encountering ninjas from an enemy village, even if they seemed relatively weak, meant it was time to fight.
"Let's lead them to the mountain nearby. Fighting here might endanger the residents," Obito suggested after looking around.
The houses here were mostly made of wood, and his fire-style jutsu could easily set them ablaze.
"That's a good idea, Obito," Might Guy agreed, giving him a thumbs-up.
"Hmm, fighting on the mountain will also make the sounds of our jutsu more noticeable, making it easier for Teacher Mu Yue to sense something is amiss," Kakashi nodded in approval of Obito's strategy.
If the enemy turned out to be too strong and he had to resort to using his fire jutsu to burn down the mountain, Teacher Mu Yue would surely sense that something was wrong.
Without hesitation, the three of them jumped onto the rooftops and made their way toward the mountain.
"Chase them!" Iruka immediately ordered, then leaped onto a nearby house and gave pursuit.
During the chase, both sides engaged in a brief battle of throwing ninja tools on the rooftops. However, the three Cloud ninjas were fairly average in skill and couldn't match Kakashi and Obito, so they had to focus on dodging the shurikens that came their way while running.
When they reached the middle of the mountain, Obito, Kakashi, and Might Guy stopped simultaneously.
"Keep running! Why are you stopping?" Belloqua clenched his fists and touched the bloodstain on his face from a shuriken wound, his expression turning sinister.
He was angry that a bunch of kids who hadn't even fully grown their hair yet had injured him.
"I'll take on the one with the sword. Guy, you handle the more muscular Cloud ninja, and Obito, stop the other one," Kakashi calmly instructed.
Iruka, who was wielding a sword, seemed to be the leader and possibly the strongest. Kakashi was supposed to take on the strongest opponent, but since Iruka seemed skilled in swordsmanship, Kakashi was concerned that Guy, who specialized in taijutsu, might be at a disadvantage. So, he decided to face Iruka himself.
"Why does it feel like I'm being assigned to deal with the weakest one?" Obito couldn't help but complain. Now he was left with stopping the remaining opponent.
Of course, he was just grumbling, his eyes already fixed on Haiero.
For now, the enemy's strength was unknown, and they were all in the same boat.
"At their age, they've probably graduated less than two years ago. Let's finish this quickly. There might be a stronger Leaf ninja nearby," Iruka said, his grip tightening on his sword.
Usually, a small squad that looked this young would have an experienced ninja leading them, and they might have just split up.
"How long does it take to deal with a bunch of brats? Three minutes. Then we'll go after their leader," Belloqua boasted.
Iruka nodded and charged forward, sword in hand.
As soon as Iruka moved, his two teammates followed suit.
Kakashi swiftly drew his White Fang and clashed blades with Iruka.
Obito threw several shurikens to restrict Haiero's movements.
Might Guy, on the other hand, entered his Rock Breath state and rushed towards Belloqua.
"Leaf Whirlwind!"
The speed that Might Guy displayed took Belloqua by surprise. Caught off guard, Belloqua was kicked hard and crashed into a tree.
"What are you doing, Belloqua? Don't be careless!" Iruka frowned upon seeing his teammate suddenly kicked into a tree.
However, Iruka soon had his hands full dealing with his own opponent. The child before him, who looked to be under ten years old, had incredibly fierce sword skills. This battle required his full attention, and Iruka couldn't spare any concern for his teammate.
"Damn, you're fast," Belloqua cursed, his face reddening.
He wasn't blushing out of embarrassment but from the heat of anger. He had boasted before the fight, only to be kicked away in an instant by someone he deemed a child. It was humiliating.
"Is this fast? My youth has only just begun to burn!" Might Guy laughed heartily and rushed towards Belloqua with lightning speed.
He hadn't even used the Eight Inner Gates or the Total Concentration Breathing Technique yet.
After being caught off guard once, Belloqua realized that the Leaf ninja before him was no ordinary child. Age was not a reliable indicator of skill.
Boom! Boom!
The two of them engaged in a fierce hand-to-hand combat, their fists connecting with each other's bodies.
Although Belloqua appeared taller and more muscular, Might Guy's rigorous physical training and the enhancement of his body from the Rock Breath technique meant that they were evenly matched.
"Has this guy been training since he was in the womb? How can his body be so strong?" Belloqua thought in shock.
He himself regularly practiced lightning-style ninjutsu, which enhanced his physical strength beyond that of a typical taijutsu ninja. Yet, he couldn't suppress a child who looked to be under ten years old.
Belloqua's calm facade shattered, and he unleashed his chakra, using his nature transformation to imbue his fist with lightning. He threw a powerful punch at Might Guy.
Might Guy, far from being intimidated by Belloqua's hidden trick, became even more excited.
A stronger opponent was worth defeating and would make his youth burn even brighter.
Whoosh!
Might Guy used the Lightning Body Movement Technique to dodge Belloqua's lightning-infused punch.
Boom!!
Belloqua's lightning-clad fist slammed into a tree, shattering it.
"Rock Breath, Total Concentration Breathing! Eight Inner Gates, Open!"
Having gauged his opponent's strength, Might Guy entered his full power state, his physical abilities greatly enhanced. He was ready to finish off his opponent in one go.
