Chapter 200: Test
Chapter 200: Test
At four o'clock in the early morning, Felix groggily opened his eyes, his head buzzing as if a cauldron spoon were stirring inside his brain.
He got out of bed and stumbled into the bathroom.
His face in the mirror was flushed, as if he had just been fished out of scalding hot water. He muttered, “The side effects of the Mind Chamber hit pretty fast.”
Last night, to save time and deduce the incomplete Runic Script on the Runic Script ball, he had forcibly increased the Mind Chamber's operational speed. Now, the side effects were catching up with him.
He had anticipated this.
After leaving the bathroom, he glanced at the thick darkness outside the window and downed a large cup of potion. The fever soon subsided, but he still felt weak and lethargic.
Felix lay in bed until ten, the constant throbbing in his head leaving him with no appetite. He couldn't even manage to think quietly. He decided to go for a walk, at least to get some fresh air.
Before he knew it, he found himself at the edge of the Forbidden Forest. Felix squinted, hesitating between the Forbidden Forest and Hagrid's Hut.
“Since I'm here, why not test the Size-Altering Charm?” He was genuinely curious.
Felix hesitated for only two seconds before slowly entering the Forbidden Forest. However, he draped himself in a Windcloak, his fingers lightly touching his chest, where the cloak shimmered with a crystalline magical glow.
The Windcloak's inner lining was made of Basilisk Leather, while the outer layer was Fire Dragon Leather. After Felix's meticulous tanning, he added numerous runic circuits and defensive spells, resulting in a final product that was both light and flowing.
The air in the Forbidden Forest was warm and humid, and his spirits lifted slightly. His gaze roamed around.
‘A head-sized erumpent or a Redcap would be great,’ Felix thought to himself.
He followed a steep, rocky path downward, suddenly remembering that last year he had found a large Acromantula claw here. He had intended to use it as a Runic Script engraving tool, but it had dried out and lost all traces of magic. With his busy schedule, he had forgotten about it.
A rustling sound caught his attention. Felix looked up to find himself surrounded by a dozen enormous spiders, their movements agitated.
Acromantulas...
“Perfect, meeting you is such a stroke of luck,” Felix said sincerely.
The large spiders in front of him constantly manipulated their massive claws, making a “click-clack” sound. He could even hear the hard, black bristles on their bodies scraping against the ground.
Felix held his Ebony Wand casually, showing no signs of casting a powerful spell. However, a faint blue glow had appeared on his left hand, and he was steadily channeling Magic, which quickly twisted into a Spherical Vortex.
At the vortex's boundary, faint Runic Scripts could be seen flickering—this was the magical manifestation of the hollow Runic Script sphere.
The closest Acromantula, the size of a small elephant, had already leaped into the air.
Felix extended his hand flat.
Above his palm, the Spherical Vortex began to spin violently. Hundreds of blue Magic beams expanded rapidly, enveloping Felix in a twenty-foot-diameter spherical barrier.
The Magic swirled around him at high speed, weaving a beautiful magical net.
Felix's Spherical Vortex had turned completely transparent, emitting a terrifying suction force that tore the Acromantula from mid-air with no resistance.
When it touched the outer ring of blue light, its speed slowed, and its body began to shrink. This process, which lasted less than a second, made it disappear like a small pebble tossed into a puddle.
Felix leaned in for a closer look. In the transparent vortex, a tiny spider, no bigger than a green pea, was flailing its large pincers, spinning around.
The powerful suction force within the vortex had no effect on Felix, but it was very real and continued to extend outward.
“Crack!”
A large tree snapped in half and spun toward him. As it approached the blue Magic web about three meters away, it rapidly shrank to the size of a toothpick, along with the Acromantula clinging to it, and was sucked into the Spherical Vortex.
Not just the tree and the Acromantula, but also rocks the size of human heads, soil, and dead branches were all drawn in, hurtling toward him from all directions.
Felix paused, then began to consciously control the magic. The swirling wind around him dissipated, and the swaying branches slowly calmed down. However, the suction force from the vortex focused entirely on the remaining Acromantulas.
They tumbled and flew back in various positions, all being thrown into the vortex.
All twelve of them, not a single one escaped.
Felix examined the miniature world in his hand with great interest.
He tried to stop the rapidly spinning vortex, and it obediently settled down. The outer layer of Magic returned to the Spherical Vortex, gently rotating.
He now held a transparent sphere, with blue Magic inside like flowing silk, freely stretching and floating.
Inside the Spherical Vortex, the twelve Acromantulas tumbled helplessly, one of them barely managing to grab onto a toothpick-sized ancient tree, its pincers frantically twisting.
Felix summarized his findings:
First, although he had only tested the shrinking effect of the magic, the enlarging effect was yet to be tested, but it was definitely a Size-Altering Charm, not some random spell. This relieved him, lifting the biggest weight off his mind.
Second, the magic's effect was extreme.
‘The Spherical Vortex provides a powerful suction force, and the Magic inside expands into a web, shrinking everything.’
‘Acromantulas, while not weak, had no resistance, meaning most creatures in the Forbidden Forest would be unable to withstand this magic.’
Felix stared at the ten-meter radius around him, now a barren, sunken patch of wet, brown earth. This was the result of him redirecting the target to the Acromantulas mid-cast.
“The effect on magical creatures should be excellent. I won’t have to worry about being surrounded anymore. As for Wizards...” he analyzed, his head throbbing again, “Ouch~”
Felix stopped, surveying the scene. He decided to wait until he was free from the side effects of the Mind Chamber before delving deeper into his analysis.
“Next, the most important part—”
He flicked his finger, and an Acromantula was ejected from the vortex. Under his control, its body rapidly expanded, returning to its original size after a dozen seconds.
The large spider lifted its head, and the terrifying Wizard was examining it, muttering strange words, “No deformities, no sores, it really worked.”
