Chapter 200: Giovanni: Joining the Fray
Chapter 200: Giovanni: Joining the Fray
Mismagius had been asleep for a long time.
In its dreams, it seemed to relive moments of joy and sorrow, as if completely immersed in those beautiful memories. Jing He, his Pokemon, and the three members of Team Rocket all stood vigil by its side.
Mismagius's plight had a profound impact on them all.
The most dramatic reactions came from the three members of Team Rocket and Mr. Mime.
They clung to each other, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Too touching!" ×3
"Sniffle!"
Though they didn't know what was happening in its dreams, they had heard Jing He's narration. Combined with Mismagius's reactions and Meowth's translation of its murmurs, they deeply felt the bond between Mismagius and Sashima.
As Cynthia often said, when two lives meet, something special is always born.
This beautiful bond left a lasting impression.
Jing He cleared his throat, interrupting their tears, and said, "Don't worry, after you die, you'll become Gengar."
He remembered a Pokemon short he had seen before, one titled "I Became a Gengar?"
The important part wasn't what you became, but whether someone still remembered you. Even if you became a Gengar, as long as your friends could still recognize you and you could live as before, the form you took seemed less important.
Perhaps this was why Gengar gradually forgot it was a ghost.
The three members of Team Rocket and Mr. Mime looked at the Gengar beside Jing He.
Become a Gengar?
"Gengar!"
Gengar bared its teeth, showing a terrifying grin.
Even if you die, I'll still be your boss!
The trio's faces turned pale, and they forced a smile.
"Teacher Jing He, you are truly the best at comforting people!!"
"Thank you!"
The awakened Mismagius solemnly thanked Jing He.
Though it knew it was a dream, it was enough for it. The beauty of that moment, though fleeting, would be eternally preserved in its memory.
"If you don't mind, could you help me with something?" Jing He asked.
Hearing this, Mismagius remembered they were in a cafe.
Humans seemed to use some kind of currency, maybe gold or silver, but it had none of that.
Just as Mismagius was nervously thinking about how to repay Jing He, he spoke again.
"Could you leave a mark on this wall, just like Gengar did? The same content would be fine."
One wall of the cafe had always been empty, and Jing He hadn't decided how to decorate it. Now, he knew.
"Hmm?"
Mismagius was taken aback.
It hadn't expected Jing He's request to be so simple.
Without hesitation, it nodded. Its eyes glowed with psychic energy, and the red gem on its chest flashed. Three small indentations, like gem marks, appeared on the wall.
The message, which only some Pokemon could understand, read: "This place helps Pokemon in need."
"Thank you," Jing He said.
Then, Gengar, Froslass, Steelix, Dragonair, Meowth, and Mr. Mime all left their marks on the wall, with the same content.
One day, when there were enough marks, any Pokemon entering would understand the message.
Jing He also decided that the wall would feature prominently in the cafe's promotional posters, bringing a ray of sunshine to any Pokemon in need.
Afterward, the little Pokemon all smiled.
"Feels like we did something amazing, meow," Meowth rubbed its nose, feeling its life had taken on new meaning.
"Have you decided where to go next?"
Mismagius looked deeply at the marks on the wall, then gazed into the distance.
"Sashima's favorite wisteria flowers have withered. I want to plant them again."
Jing He was taken aback, his gaze softening. He nodded. "If you need help, you can always come to us."
Mismagius looked gratefully at the human and nodded slightly.
Then, a black mist enveloped it, and it shot off into the distance.
Rumble—
After it left, a small "Dusk Stone" spun on the cafe table.
Jing He sighed silently.
When he turned around, he saw the little Pokemon and the Team Rocket trio with tearful eyes.
Only Gengar, while teary-eyed, carried a hint of another emotion.
Jing He, who could see through Gengar's thoughts, was speechless.
'What if I suddenly want to be a thousand-year-old monster?'
There must be a Legendary Pokemon that can help with that, right?
Jing He shook his head.
He announced another decision for the cafe.
"Koga," Jing He called.
"I-I'm here," Koga, the most emotional of the trio, was one of the most devastated.
"Starting tomorrow, our cafe will add a new dessert: flower cakes."
When Jing He’s words reached the ears of the Pokemon and the trio, they were all taken aback for a moment. Almost simultaneously, they broke into smiles.
“Great!”
After dinner, Jing He could clearly sense that the little ones were working even harder. He had a good idea why. Probably because he had mentioned that the future was unpredictable, and living in the moment was the most important thing.
However, the things the little ones were practicing left Jing He momentarily speechless.
Take Gengar, for example. It could split into seven or eight shadows at once, then skillfully weave through each shadow, making it seem like each one could throw a Shadow Ball.
Then there was Froslass. The little one had become increasingly fascinated with Iron Defense. It had completely shifted its enthusiasm from building snowmen to creating Aurora Veils. Not entirely, though, because Froslass started using its psychic powers to shape the Aurora Veil!
As for Steelix, it remained as obsessed as ever with physical training. According to Steelix, hammering the hammer was a form of training, and so was training itself—both had the same goal!
Jing He found it hard to argue with that logic.
Meanwhile, he was in the bathroom, giving Minior a bath.
“Minior,” Jing He called out, holding a rough washcloth.
“Eeew?”
Minior, comfortably lying on the edge of the bathtub, enjoying the bath and massage, looked puzzled.
“Have you been getting a bit chubby?” Jing He asked with a strange expression.
Living together every day, the changes in Minior weren’t immediately noticeable, but after this bath, it was clear that Minior’s appetite had skyrocketed recently, surpassing even Froslass and Steelix, second only to Gengar.
The pressure of raising a near-legendary Pokemon was starting to show.
“Eeew!”
Minior puffed out its cheeks. How could a determined Pokemon like itself get fat! That was muscle! Muscle!
But Jing He patted its smooth body and said, “It’s fine, I think this is great.”
He didn’t want a Dragonite that was all muscle. A chubby Dragonite was much cuter.
But speaking of which, a normal Minior’s length is about 1.8 meters, and 2 meters is already considered quite large. But this little one was already over 2.5 meters!
‘Is this from its accumulated strength, or the effect of the giant Dragonite scales?’
Never mind. It wasn’t that important.
“Minior, does this feel good?”
“Eeew~~”
“How about here?”
“Eeew, eeew~ (//▽//)”
“What kind of expression is that?”
“Eeew!”
“W-wait! Don’t! I-I need to catch my breath!”
Click—
In Kanto’s Vermilion City, at the Rocket Team base.
“Boss, take a look at this tender,” Gin said, handing a tablet to Giovanni.
For some reason, Gin seemed less restrained around Giovanni lately. While her respect and admiration for him hadn’t changed, she was at least more approachable than before.
Maybe it was because Giovanni started accepting the snacks she prepared daily.
Giovanni put down his pen, picked up the cup of tea on his desk, and took a sip, relaxing slightly before picking up the tablet.
“A TV series called ‘Boss Meowth and Pichu’? This tender from Devon Corporation—what does it have to do with us, the Rocket Team?” Giovanni asked after a quick read.
“Boss, take a look at who wrote the script.”
“Hm?”
Giovanni flipped to the end and saw the words “Screenwriter: Jing He,” which made him pause.
After the restaurant, Jing He had “moved” again?
But as the leader of the Rocket Team, his perspective was different from ordinary people, and he quickly grasped the key points.
His fingers tapped lightly on the desk, making a “tapping” sound.
“This is... cultural influence? Plus... public opinion influence?”
His eyes lit up, and he placed his hand on Meowth’s head, the crimson gemstone ring on his finger glowing faintly.
By using television, they could subtly change the public’s perception of the Rocket Team, or any organization. When necessary, they could also use public opinion to guide things.
“Is this the second step in putting the Rocket Team out in the open?”
The first step was controlling the most important aspect of daily life—food. The second step was cultural influence.
“Jing He-sensei, as expected,” Giovanni murmured.
When the plan to make the Rocket Team more visible was proposed, had he already thought this through?
Gin, one of the few who knew about this plan, was deeply impressed by Jing He. After all, her relationship with Giovanni had improved thanks to Jing He’s advice.
“Since that’s the case.”
Giovanni put down the tablet and spoke again.
“We, the Rocket Team, must definitely be involved in this.”
Gin nodded.
“Gin, you will follow up on this tender. My only requirement is that you do whatever it takes to secure the cooperation rights!”
“Yes!”
After a pause, Gin asked, “But Boss, what identity should we use to approach them?”
“What identity...”
