Chapter 200: Cangling Debate of Swords (Viii)
Chapter 200: Cangling Debate of Swords (Viii)
The sudden cry of "Wait!" and a flying stone instantly turned the tide.
As the onlookers hesitated momentarily at this unexpected shift, a figure in the shadows darted forward. This person had appeared not from the direction of the earlier shout, but behind Feng Bu Jue, several meters away, where Shi Yanran and Si Yu had been locked in combat.
The figure wore a plain green robe identical to Wang Ao’s attire. Moving at blinding speed while deliberately dodging sight, he remained a blur even to Feng Bu Jue, the closest observer. All Feng could discern was his square jaw, towering build, and formidable martial prowess.
Feng Bu Jue reacted instantly, pivoting to meet the attack, only to realize this unexpected assailant had no intention of targeting him at all.
With a thunderous roar, the man launched a palm strike downward, unleashing explosive force directly at Wang Ao’s corpse. The technique, long-prepared, carried staggering power—crashing like thunder, shaking the air like lightning splitting the sky.
Feng Bu Jue grasped his intent in an instant, but it was already too late. Wang Ao’s corpse shattered under the tidal wave of palm energy, the half-body riddled with throwing needles now reduced to broken bones and torn sinews, organs spilling out in a gruesome mess.
The moment he finished his task, the man shouted toward Shi Yanran: “Go!” As he bellowed, he lashed out another palm at Feng Bu Jue’s direction, forcing him back.
Shi Yanran, seemingly understanding everything, recognized the newcomer immediately. She spun and fled, hurling over a dozen throwing needles to cover her retreat.
These needles flew slower and weaker than usual, but their sheer quantity and wide spread forced Si Yu and Xiao Tan, the closest pursuers, to evade or block. Clearly prioritizing escape, Shi Yanran focused all her energy on fleeing, using the projectiles merely to delay any chase.
Both the man and Shi Yanran feigned their retreats so convincingly that none of the players could pursue. Among the five, only Feng Bu Jue could possibly track them long-distance using his spirit sense body technique. However, without maintaining this state, even he couldn’t catch up. Though Si Yu’s physical agility surpassed Feng Bu Jue’s, her insufficient innate attributes would require her to reach at least Level 25 to match these two in raw physical condition without skill support. Right now, it was impossible.
“What the hell just happened?” Xiao Tan demanded.
Before Feng Bu Jue could answer, Bei Ling stepped forward, sighing: “Still don’t get it? We’re about to take the fall for someone else’s crime.”
“Huh?” Xiao Tan blinked in confusion.
Young Noble Ji Bu mirrored his bewilderment: “What do you mean?”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Feng Bu Jue, having deactivated his spirit sense body technique, walked toward Wang Ao’s mangled corpse. “With the body destroyed beyond recognition, the two of them can claim whatever they want happened here.” He knelt beside the remains. “From that woman’s words earlier, she clearly wanted to keep her identity as the killer secret. And we—unfortunately—we witnessed her entire act.”
He paused, then continued: “From her perspective, she had two choices.
First: abandon the corpse and flee without revealing herself.
Second: kill all of us to eliminate witnesses.
Her choosing the latter means…” He gestured at the corpse. “Either her martial arts or her weapon is highly distinctive—recognizable enough that even without seeing her face, anyone examining the corpse would instantly identify the killer. That’s why she attacked the moment I approached.”
“Oh!” Xiao Tan suddenly realized. “So that’s why you said things like ‘I don’t know you or him’ and ‘take the body’ earlier!”
Feng Bu Jue nodded. “I suspected her intentions then. I tried resolving it peacefully, but obviously, she didn’t trust us. Truthfully, I can’t blame her. If I were the criminal and some strangers witnessed my act, even if they swore secrecy, I’d never believe them. Because in the end, they’d likely use it to blackmail me. Honestly, if they didn’t try blackmail, I’d feel more uneasy.”
As he spoke, he crouched beside the gruesome corpse, using a pipe wrench to pry a needle from the shredded flesh. Examining it closely, he mused: “The man who appeared later had probably been watching for a while. He likely expected her to kill us all, which is why he didn’t act sooner.” He glanced up thoughtfully. “Martial artists here must’ve noticed we lack cultivation or inner energy. The man and woman weren’t exceptions.”
He began searching the relatively intact side of the corpse for clues. “But our combat abilities exceeded their expectations. When cornered, the woman had no choice but to fight to the end. That’s when the man intervened, devising a plan…”
“…to destroy the corpse entirely.” He almost sounded approving. “Now that the body’s ruined, they can easily claim we killed him, while they arrived just in time, fought us, and left the scattered weapons behind.” He scoffed. “That man planned meticulously before charging in. He saved the woman with a distraction tactic, using the shout to mislead us. Then, appearing suddenly, he struck precisely where the needles were embedded.”
He stood, shrugging. “If the corpse were intact, the difference between needles fired at a living opponent versus stuck into a corpse post-mortem would be obvious—tracing the fatal wound too. But now…” He held up a needle from the shredded remains. “Even holding this proves nothing. Right now, they could claim he died from any martial arts technique or even be blamed on a beast attack.”
“So we’re definitely taking the fall?” Young Noble Ji Bu asked.
“Doesn’t matter.” Feng Bu Jue shrugged, finding nothing on the corpse. “As the saying goes—misfortune might be a blessing in disguise…”
“Wait, what do you mean?” Xiao Tan asked.
Si Yu suddenly spoke: “You’re bluffing, aren’t you?”
“Clever,” Feng Bu Jue winked at her.
Bei Ling nodded: “Actually, that’s not a bad idea…”
Young Noble Ji Bu frowned. “You guys communicate in riddles! What’s going on suddenly?”
Feng Bu Jue laughed, looking at him and Xiao Tan. “You’ll see tomorrow.”
