Chapter 20: The Robbery
Chapter 20: The Robbery
Offline?
Jason Haley stared at the screen for a long time, waiting for Mewtwo's reply, but it never came. He gently rubbed his chin.
Perhaps I pushed too hard?
In truth, Jason Haley was confident that he could help Mewtwo understand the concepts of "Id," "Ego," and "Superego."
Only by clearly recognizing these could Mewtwo truly grasp the meaning of "self." It wasn't just a name or a symbol.
Once Mewtwo understood these concepts, it might realize that while it was unique, every Pokemon in the world had its own special qualities. The difference was merely the degree of that uniqueness.
As a Time Traveler and a spoiler, Jason Haley already knew a lot about Mewtwo. This was a targeted therapy session.
It was like shooting first and drawing the target later; it made sense no matter how you looked at it.
But Mewtwo's sudden offline status made him feel like he had thrown a punch and it landed on a cotton ball.
"Never mind." After sitting for a while, Jason Haley shook his head.
Whether Mewtwo accepted it or not, he had done what a Pokemon psychologist should do.
Mewtwo, still under Team Rocket's control, wouldn't trace the internet connection to come and attack him, right?
After composing himself and resting for a bit, Jason Haley took the Gengar, who had sneezed dozens of times, to the training hall.
Little did he know, his "therapy" session had caused the largest underground force in the Kanto and Johto regions, the notorious Team Rocket, to experience a complete network outage for an entire day!
Vermilion City, Team Rocket Base
Dim lights brought a faint glow to the dark hall. Under the hazy light, a bright red "R" stood out prominently. In the reflected light, a figure sat in a chair, stroking a Persian.
Beside him, a woman in a secretary's outfit and glasses respectfully reported:
"Boss, this is the general situation. Mewtwo seems to have used the network without anyone's knowledge, but it appears to have been triggered by something, causing its psychic powers to surge. Our entire network has been down, and even the Metapod couldn't escape the impact. The estimated damage..."
"Triggered?" A deep, resonant voice sounded.
"Yes. According to the data our researchers obtained before the system crashed, Mewtwo's psychic powers were three times their usual strength, and the upper limit is unknown!" As Secretary Kusanagi reported the situation truthfully.
The hand stroking the Persian's back paused.
"Meow—"
The Persian opened its eyes in confusion.
"Can we find out who Mewtwo contacted at that time?" Giovanni placed his hand back on the Persian's back and asked.
Kusanagi's expression turned difficult. "I'm afraid it won't be easy. Due to Mewtwo's power, our network hasn't been restored yet. Some crucial data has been nearly formatted because the database was filled to the brim, so..."
Moreover, while the League couldn't easily infiltrate Team Rocket's network, it wasn't easy for Team Rocket to infiltrate the League's network either.
"Filled to the brim?"
Giovanni was a bit surprised.
Team Rocket's database was comparable to the League's. How could it be full?
Kusanagi pressed her lips together, her expression becoming somewhat strange. She hesitated before saying, "It's all 'Gengar Gengar.'"
It was like opening a blanket at night and finding it full of Gengar.
Giovanni fell silent for a long time before finally speaking a single word.
"Investigate!"
"Yes!"
"Ah-choo—"
In the training room, the Gengar, who was in the middle of training, suddenly paused and sneezed loudly.
A thick, deep purple mist erupted from its body and drifted toward Jason Haley.
Jason Haley's face tensed, and he quickly dodged to the side.
A Poison-type move: Smog!
After dodging, Jason Haley took a deep breath. Every time he trained Gengar, there were always some "accidents," making it so that not only did Gengar need training, but he also had to train to dodge. He felt his movements had become more agile recently.
"Ku, ku—"
I didn't mean to.
The Gengar looked at Jason Haley with a pained expression, trying to convey its apology.

"Your 'pity' face was a bit too obvious, or I might have believed you." Jing He patted his clothes, speaking with a hint of irritation.
"Kya—"
Gastly sighed inwardly. Being a Pokemon psychology mentor was tough; nothing ever escaped his notice.
But it wasn't intentional.
He just couldn't figure out why he had so many sneezes today.
"Never mind. You don't seem to be in the best condition today. Let's end the training here."
Jing He pulled out a purple energy cube.
"Kya!"
At the sight of the energy cube, Gastly immediately forgot all his problems.
He gulped it down with a satisfied expression.
With the training over, Jing He decided to call it a day early.
The academy didn't really care when the teachers arrived or left. Even Dr. Solance from the next door lab would disappear a few times a week, and no one batted an eye.
Jing He had even heard that some teachers took on side jobs to earn extra income. For instance, the battle instructors might work at a battle club, making more than their school salary.
However, instead of heading straight home, he took Gastly to the city center of Kanaz.
The energy cubes he had bought last time were running low, and he needed to restock. Besides, the groceries at home were also running out, so he decided to buy some more.
Taking Gastly shopping was a challenge.
Having slept for nearly a thousand years, everything was new and exciting to him. If he started fiddling with things here and there, Jing He would be in trouble.
Suppressing this lively Pokemon wasn't easy.
In the end, Jing He had to pay the steep price of "three energy cubes" to ensure a relatively smooth shopping trip.
The constant "Kya Kya" in his ear was an added bonus.
Fortunately, everything went relatively smoothly.
When Jing He emerged from the energy cube store, his wallet was lighter, but he had secured Gastly's food supply for two weeks.
Honestly, he wasn't sure if it would last that long.
The last time he bought a two-week supply, Gastly finished it in one week.
Gastly's appetite was much larger than he had anticipated.
This time, he increased the quantity, but he couldn't be sure how long it would last.
"Sigh—" Jing He sighed outside the energy cube store. "I really need to find a way to make more money."
"Ah!!!!"
Suddenly, a shrill scream pierced the air, drawing the attention of everyone on the street.
A masked man, moving at lightning speed, snatched a bag from a woman's hand and hopped onto a motorcycle waiting nearby, ready to flee with his accomplice.
Several people's faces changed, and they prepared to intervene, but the robbers were well-prepared and not easily stopped.
At that moment, a voice rang out in Jing He's ear.
"Metang, Psychic!"
A familiar figure appeared in his line of sight.
The man seemed to notice him as well.
"Dioh?"
"Teacher Jing He?"
Today, I took the kids to the dentist, so the update is a bit late. Sorry, sorry, and thank you for your understanding.
