Chapter 20: Smiles Don't Disappear, They Just Transfer
Chapter 20: Smiles Don't Disappear, They Just Transfer
"Izumo, good morning."
Early in the morning, on his way to the Ninja Academy, Koichi greeted the coincidentally encountered Kamizuki Izumo.
"Un, good morning," Kamizuki Izumo replied.
Koichi placed his arm around Kamizuki Izumo's neck, locking it in place before releasing it with a smile and asking, "Why do you look so lacking in energy?"
Kamizuki Izumo sighed and said, "Koichi, don't you remember? Today is the day our grades come out."
"Oh, right. Did you not do well on your exams, Izumo?" Koichi recalled that Mu Yue had mentioned the day before that the results would be announced today.
"Yeah, I feel like my score might be pretty low." Kamizuki Izumo looked up at the sky at a 45-degree angle, a hint of worry on her face.
"Don't worry about it. I didn't do that well either. I probably did about the same as you." Koichi patted Kamizuki Izumo's shoulder comfortingly.
Soon after, the two of them walked together towards the Ninja Academy and happened to run into Beniyaku Hanto along the way.
"Izumo, Koichi, good morning," Beniyaku greeted them cheerfully.
"Good morning," the two replied.
"Why do you two look so glum? Did you have a nightmare last night?" Beniyaku asked curiously.
"No, it's because today is the day our grades come out," Koichi sighed.
"We didn't do very well, and we feel like our scores might be pretty low," Kamizuki Izumo added.
"Hehe, is that so? I feel like I did pretty well, actually. I might even have a high score," Beniyaku said, laughing proudly at the thought.
"Then I'll be able to ask for another reward from Mu Yue-sensei," Beniyaku thought, already anticipating the moment despite not having seen her score yet.
After all, Koichi and Kamizuki Izumo were known for their excellent theoretical knowledge, and if she had scored higher than them, she must have aced the exam.
"I really admire you, Beniyaku. Second in practical exams and now a high score in theory as well," Kamizuki Izumo said, expressing her envy.
Hearing Kamizuki Izumo's praise, Beniyaku couldn't help but feel even more proud, and she walked with a swagger, exuding the air of a big sister.
As the trio of Beniyaku, Kamizuki, and Koichi approached the school, they also ran into their classmates, including Itachi and others.
"Itachi, how do you think you did on the exam?" Beniyaku asked curiously.
"Average, I suppose," Itachi replied calmly.
Beniyaku's curiosity about her own score intensified. If Itachi, known for his exceptional skills, considered his performance average, then she might have a chance at ranking first.
"First place is still unlikely, but I might be in the top five," Beniyaku thought, her ego slightly inflated but not to the point of losing touch with reality. Usually, she performed averagely in exams.
As they approached the bulletin board, it was already surrounded by a crowd of students, all discussing their grades animatedly.
"The scores for this class are incredibly high. There are so many in the 70s and 80s," one student remarked.
"And there's even a perfect score! It seems to be the first place in practical exams as well. Truly terrifying," another student added.
"As expected of the class taught by Mu Yue-sensei..." a third student whispered in awe.
"Excuse me, excuse me," Beniyaku, eager to know her own results, pushed her way through the crowd, not paying attention to the ongoing conversations. Koichi and Kamizuki followed closely behind her. They finally reached the bulletin board and found the score sheet for Class 2.
"Eighty points! Yay!" Beniyaku's eyes immediately spotted her name, followed by the number eighty, and she couldn't help but cheer excitedly.
However, her joy was short-lived as she quickly noticed something amiss with the rankings.
"Koichi, Izumo, have you found your scores yet?" Beniyaku asked, turning to her friends.
"Yes, I got ninety-two," Koichi nodded and replied.
"Wh-what?" Beniyaku couldn't believe her ears.
"Ninety-two," Koichi repeated, a smile spreading across his face.
"Konoha profanity!" Beniyaku exclaimed, slapping Koichi's shoulder with a thud. Her large brown-gray eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at him.
So much for not doing well on the exam, and here he was with a score of ninety-two!
"What about you, Izumo? How many points did you get?" Koichi asked.
"Ninety-seven," Kamizuki Izumo replied with a smile.
"Wh-what?" Koichi felt he must have misheard. That was almost a perfect score!
"Ninety-seven," Izumo repeated.
This time, Koichi heard her clearly, and the smile on his face gradually faded as Izumo's smile grew broader.
"I even comforted you this morning, and you ended up doing so well, almost a perfect score." Koichi wrapped his arm around Izumo's neck and pulled her away.
Seeing this familiar scene, Red Bean decisively joined the fray, occasionally sneaking in a punch at Koichi.
These two were so hateful, performing so well and yet deceiving her emotionally.

[After a month of diligent studying, student Uchiha Stopper has achieved perfect scores in academic assessments, earning rewards: Chakra +300, Ninjutsu Proficiency Scroll]
[Ninjutsu Proficiency Scroll: Upgrade any mastered ninjutsu to a proficient level]
[After a month of diligent studying, student Uchiha Obito has achieved good academic results, earning a reward: Chakra +150]
[After a month of diligent studying, student Might Guy has achieved good academic results, earning a reward: Chakra +150]
As Mu Yue expected, the exams did come with rewards, and they were much more generous than the lecture rewards. In these three days, he lectured until his throat was dry, but he wouldn't have earned 600 chakra for it. A single B-grade evaluation only gave him 20 chakra.
This was also because of Obito and Might Guy's poor theoretical foundation; otherwise, the rewards would have been even higher.
Mu Yue suddenly felt the urge to have the school conduct more exams. Ninja schools usually only held two exams per semester.
If there were ten exams in a semester, he would surely soar to new heights.
This thought only flashed through Mu Yue's mind for a moment before he discarded it. He knew that if he did so, he might not receive the rewards he desired.
When he conducted exams in class, the system didn't give him any rewards either.
Moreover, Mu Yue felt that his proposal wouldn't be accepted by the school. Having ten exams in a semester would exhaust not only the students but also the teachers.
Mu Yue thought for a moment and decided to use the Ninjutsu Proficiency Scroll. With three semesters in a year and two exams per semester, that guaranteed him a minimum of six Ninjutsu Proficiency Scrolls per year.
Since he could obtain more in the future, he might as well enhance his strength first to prevent any unforeseen incidents.
Mu Yue used the Ninjutsu Proficiency Scroll on the Water Cutter Technique, and his mind was instantly filled with memories of practicing the technique and various tips and tricks.
Although Mu Yue had mastered quite a few ninjutsu by now, he believed that the Water Cutter Technique was the most powerful among them.
At noon, in the office, Mu Yue became the center of attention.
"Teacher Uehara, how do you teach your class? Your students' theoretical scores are ridiculously high, with an average that's several points higher than the other classes," Kimura Sasan couldn't help but ask.
"Yes, do you have any tips, Teacher Mu Yue? My two students barely passed this time, and I'm not sure about the next exam," Ikegaya Isamu added.
Might Guy and Obito's performance had truly shocked him. Not only did they dominate the practical exams, but they had also passed the theory exam.
As Mu Yue was about to say something, another teacher entered the office and said to him, "Teacher Mu Yue, the principal is looking for you."
