Chapter 20: Origins of Bloodlines
Ivan held his wand and walked through the library, not stopping in the general section, heading straight for the restricted section.
*Advanced Transfiguration Guide, Ancient Runes, Legilimency: Peering into Your Mind*
Ivan's gaze swept over the rows of bookshelves, and the numerous high-end restricted books made him feel envious. There were even books on Legilimency and Occlumency that he had long desired.
If he could, Ivan would have used hundreds of Scholar Experience Cards to spend ten to fifteen days here, then watch his strength skyrocket.
But ultimately, Ivan resisted the temptation. He didn't have enough academic points to exchange, and he hadn't forgotten why he was here today.
Following the signs in the restricted section, Ivan quickly found the twelfth shelf in the seventh row. However, there didn't seem to be anything different here. A large number of magical books were neatly arranged, filling the shelves to the brim, leaving no gaps.
Unwilling to give up, Ivan tried to find some kind of secret passage, but found nothing. Instead, he accidentally knocked a Dark Arts book off the shelf.
The book moved on its own, as if it had a mind of its own, flipping through its pages. After a few pages, a thick black mist began to roll out, and a man's head could be seen with its mouth wide open, as if screaming at the top of its lungs!
What terrified Ivan was that he didn't hear any sound, yet his eardrums began to throb, and his head started to feel dizzy, as if someone was really shouting in front of him.
The black mist grew denser, and the head seemed to be about to burst out of the book.
*Slam!*
Ivan abruptly closed the book, flattening the black head on the page. As the book closed, the black mist disappeared.
"Just a book, are you trying to take over?" Ivan rubbed his ears and gritted his teeth, speaking through clenched jaws.
After a long moment, Ivan dared to pick up the book again. The cover read *Advanced Dark Arts Unveiled*. The texture of the cover was noticeably different from other books, feeling almost like skin.
Could it be human skin?
The thought flashed through Ivan's mind, making him feel a chill. Recalling the man's head in agony, it seemed quite possible.
Ivan glanced at the system's reward task, but there was no change, indicating that this was unrelated to the reward. It really was just an accident.
Ivan reluctantly put *Advanced Dark Arts Unveiled* back, intending to search for any overlooked mechanisms. Suddenly, he noticed that the bookshelf in front of him seemed different.
One, two, three, four, five, six?
Each bookshelf in the restricted section was identical, with books organized by type in six rows and seven columns. However, Ivan keenly observed that the twelfth shelf was missing one compartment.
What was odd was that despite the missing compartment, the entire shelf still looked perfectly aligned, as if the space had been distorted.
"Someone used a Confundus Charm here? And hid one of the compartments."
Ivan narrowed his eyes. He had carefully inspected this bookshelf multiple times, so it must have been that someone had set a Confundus Charm here, affecting his judgment. The screeching sound earlier had likely broken the charm.
Even knowing where the anomaly was, Ivan was at a loss. Having read *Principles of Basic Charms*, he could roughly determine that this was a spell to hide items, but he knew very few spells, and none of them would be useful here.
Ivan had to rack his brain and try to recall the books he had read, and he suddenly remembered a spell that Snape had used in the original story.
"Aparecium!" Ivan tried pressing his Wand against the bookshelf and softly recited the revealing spell.
The entire bookshelf began to tremble slightly. A crack appeared in the middle of the twelfth row of shelves, and after a moment, it suddenly widened, revealing a new bookshelf to Ivan.
The hidden bookshelf looked no different from the others, filled with thick books. Ivan ran his hand over each book, and when he reached the last one, the system's notification sounded as expected.
* Ding, reward has been issued. *
Ivan's lips twitched, and he inwardly ranted.
This is how rewards are given out? If it weren't for his luck and intelligence, who knows how long it would have taken to find it!
This lousy system is so unconsiderate!
Thinking about the considerate systems that others have, which provide whatever they need, Ivan felt a deep sense of sorrow. Being a host was truly difficult.
Despite his thoughts, Ivan excitedly pulled the book from the shelf. The cover was slightly rough, with the words Origins of Bloodlines printed on it. The pages were slightly yellowed, indicating its age, as a magic book that could be preserved for so long.
Ivan discovered that this was another magic book not mentioned in the original story. Given that it was a reward from the system, he began to read it immediately.
After a few pages, Ivan felt disappointed. Origins of Bloodlines was not the powerful spellbook he had imagined. Instead, it seemed more like a history book, recording the history before the Wizarding War.
Back then, Wizards were not the dominant force in the magical world, capable of enslaving powerful magical creatures like house-elves, who could cast spells with great power once they reached adulthood.
In contrast, human Wizards were pitifully weak compared to these naturally powerful magical creatures. They could only maintain a foothold in the magical world through sheer numbers.
Fortunately, humans are a resilient species.
Some Wizards chose to study magic, creating more powerful spells to enhance their strength. Others focused on quicker methods, such as stealing the power of powerful magical creatures!
Some Wizards succeeded, gaining astonishing strength. More terrifyingly, this Bloodline power could be passed down, allowing their descendants to inherit the same power.
Although the Bloodline power might weaken over generations, this discovery was enough to drive many Wizards to madness!
However, Bloodline fusion was extremely risky. Apart from a few successful cases, most Wizards died tragically during their experiments and fusions. Some lucky failures survived, but at the cost of becoming monstrous and cursed, like werewolves and vampires.
Some Wizards even attempted to breed more powerful and compatible magical creatures to conduct Bloodline fusion experiments to enhance their strength.
This made Ivan think of the Chamber of Secrets Basilisk and the Forbidden Forest Acromantula.
The most insane of all, some Wizards tried to form super-friendly relationships with magical creatures that were not too difficult to accept, hoping their descendants would inherit the other's Bloodline.
