Chapter 20: Meditation Technique
Chapter 20: Meditation Technique
Upon returning to his residence, Karl eagerly opened the book that documented the wizard's meditation technique.
Deep Sea Meditation
According to Adolph, this meditation technique originated from a wizard organization called the Academy of Nature.
It is considered an entry-level meditation technique, but it is sufficient for one to cultivate to the level of a full wizard.
In fact, even Adolph himself cultivated this very technique.
"Through the means of meditation, one enters the mysterious realm hidden deep within the consciousness, gradually strengthening their mental power."
"Using mental power to construct spell models and then cast spells."
"Hmm..."
Karl pondered, "It seems that practicing wizardry is a rigorous and complex process, allowing no room for carelessness. No wonder it takes years to master."
In his eyes, wizards were more like scholarly researchers, with meditation techniques and wizardry being means to pursue knowledge.
Research demands precision above all.
For instance, when constructing spell models, even the slightest error could lead to minor spell failures or, in severe cases, mental disorders.
Many have even died in the process.
Therefore, one must proceed with utmost caution.
In his previous life, his impulsive and reckless personality made him impatient, and even with talent, he would likely have struggled to learn wizardry.
He was doing well now, able to calm his mind, but mastering the meditation technique in a short time was impossible.
"First, meditate on the deep sea, stabilizing your mind in the endless darkness."
"Forget it!"
Shaking his head, Karl abandoned the idea of gradual comprehension and closed his eyes, directly entering the mystic realm.
On the ancient, intricately patterned stone chair, a vague figure gradually became clearer.
Karl opened his eyes.
His brown irises remained calm, like an eternal god, brimming with infinite wisdom.
"Whoosh..."
He flipped through the book.
The knowledge that previously required mental effort to comprehend was now effortlessly absorbed with the aid of the mysterious power, like a flowing stream.
"Deep sea?"
Karl murmured, flipping through the pages and then quietly sinking his consciousness into the mental sea.
The next instant—
"Boom!"
The mental sea, also known as the Sea of Consciousness, was far from calm in its depths. Every stray thought was magnified countless times, forming endless waves that crashed against him.
Any novice would struggle to maintain their focus during their initial attempts at meditation.
Only through repeated trials and adaptations could one find the right position.
But Karl,
His faint consciousness was like a steadfast pillar, unmoved by the crashing waves of thoughts, and he even had the spare capacity to sense other things.
'As my consciousness sinks into the Sea of Consciousness, I seem to have a deeper connection with this mystic realm.'
'Or perhaps...'
'Control!'
Karl opened his eyes and shook his head lightly, "No!"
"Here, my mental will is like an indestructible god. It should be called the Divine Domain."
"Or perhaps, a fragment of the Divine Domain."
For some reason, an inexplicable thought surfaced in his mind.
"Hmm..."
"Did I just master the basics of this meditation technique?"
According to the Deep Sea Meditation book, one is considered to have entered the realm of meditation once they can stabilize their mind in the depths of the Sea of Consciousness.
The next step is to absorb the stray thoughts, strengthen one's focus, and enhance mental power.
There was no surprise or elation, only unwavering calm.
Back in reality, Karl eagerly attempted to practice the meditation technique, hoping to replicate his experience in the Divine Domain.
Clearly,
He had jumped to conclusions.
Although the knowledge and memories were intact, when his divine consciousness tried to sink into the Sea of Consciousness, it was immediately repelled.
"It's no use!"
Sighing, Karl wasn't too discouraged, "Even though it didn't work, according to Adolph, my abilities are still evidently stronger than other novices. I believe that with a few more attempts, success is certain."
"A Fourth-Class Talent..."
"It doesn't hinder my cultivation practice."
Karl stroked his chin, his gaze shifting to the other books.
Although he couldn't cultivate the Meditation Technique here, in the Divine Domain, 'he' had managed to grasp the basics of meditation.
Could he start cultivating spells?
If he cultivated spells in the Divine Domain, could he use them in the real world?
The most crucial aspect of spell cultivation was constructing the spell model, and to do that, one needed to understand its principles.
Even if not delving too deep, he had to grasp the basics.
Take the Lesser Force Field, for example.
At a minimum, one had to thoroughly read the Comprehensive Guide to Force Field Theory and Principles of Arcane Magic to construct the spell model.
The following days were both exhausting and fulfilling for Karl.
He brewed secret potions, practiced martial skills, cultivated the Breath Technique, and on top of that, there was meditation and spell model construction.
Especially meditation.
It was bearable in the Divine Domain, but each attempt in the real world was torture for Karl.
Meditation consumed mental energy, and he could only attempt it three times a day at most; more would be counterproductive and harm his mind.
Fortunately, with increasing proficiency, especially with the experience from the Divine Domain, Karl could see the light of entry into meditation.
"Karl."
The Patrol Hall.
Kerry was munching on something like sunflower seeds and asked, "Why have you been so listless these days? Did you go somewhere to have fun?"
"If there's such a place, remember to take me with you."
"No." Karl lay in a chair with his eyes closed, letting the sunlight through the window fall on him. "I've been busy practicing martial arts, so I'm a bit low on energy."
"If you ask me, you can skip the martial skills and swordsmanship." Kerry pouted and tossed away a seed shell. "Look at Aubrey and the others. What did they get themselves into? Their families still haven't found peace."
"Sometimes, being too ambitious isn't a good thing."
He was also aware of that night's operation but hadn't participated due to his bulky physique and lack of strength.
Unexpectedly, this saved him from disaster.
The more powerful ones among them were either dead or injured.
This experience gave Kerry an excuse for his laziness and even prompted him to advise Karl.
"I know."
Karl responded with a mumble, dragging himself through the workday, and as soon as it ended, he put on his coat and headed out.
"Karl!"
A familiar voice called from behind.
"Don't rush off just yet."
"Lady Dana." Karl raised an eyebrow.
"Officer." Kerry shrank back, a sycophantic smile on his face. "If there's nothing else, I'll be on my way."
"You two chat."
He gave Karl a 'good luck' look and then sprinted out of the Patrol Hall, his destination unknown.
Recently, Lady Dana had been frequently reprimanded by her superiors and faced with bereaved families demanding answers. She kept a cold demeanor, and no one dared approach her.
The entire Patrol Hall was filled with an air of tension.
"Do you have time?"
Lady Dana strolled over.
"To accompany me for a drink."
"..." Karl furrowed his brows slightly and then sighed. "Okay!"
Karl, a former regular at the tavern, hadn't returned since the change of ownership. Now, as he stepped into the tavern again, he felt a bit out of place.
"Sit."
Lady Dana removed her coat, revealing her form-fitting outfit underneath, which accentuated her mature figure.
"Thud!"
A large mug of ale landed heavily on the table, and Lady Dana raised her glass first. "Drink!"
"Bottoms up!"
She tilted her neck back, and the ale disappeared down her throat in one go, displaying a bold and carefree attitude.
"Impressive." Karl clapped, joining her for a drink. "Officer, you didn't bring me here just for a drink, did you?"
"Can you drop the lawsuit against me?" Lady Dana turned to look at him, her eyes slightly red. "If you do, I'll do anything you ask."
