Chapter 2: Triple Speed
Chapter 2: Triple Speed
As the classroom descended into chaos, with girls arguing and boys looking ready to brawl, the jonin teacher finally intervened.
"Quiet!"
"Next, Uchiha Obito!"
The teacher's authority managed to restore order, and Obito Uchiha glared resentfully at Feng Ye before making his way to the front of the class.
He glanced at Haruno Rin, took a deep breath, and clenched his fists, determined to outperform Feng Ye.
Boom!!
After forming the necessary hand seals, a flash of white smoke appeared.
The clone that materialized beside Obito was crooked and obviously a fake, though it could still be considered a clone.
"Fifty points."
The jonin teacher glanced at Obito.
The Uchiha clan was known as a breeding ground for geniuses, with most of its members excelling at the academy. However, Obito Uchiha was an exception.
"Ahhh... Let me try again..."
Unsatisfied with his score, Obito immediately attempted the technique again. However, with his shaken mental state, his second attempt at the Clone Technique failed.
His third and final try didn't fare much better than the first, and he only managed to achieve a score of 55, failing to meet the passing grade.
"..."
Feng Ye watched this unfold, a single thought running through his mind.
This level of edginess is just ridiculous!
Just because he witnessed Haruno Rin's death, Obito went through a complete character transformation. He awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan, unlocked the Kamui ability, one of the strongest abilities, and even his combat skills and personality underwent a drastic one-eighty degree turn.
Before long, he would attack Konoha, release the Nine-Tails, and indirectly cause the death of the 'BUG-level' character, the Fourth Hokage, Namikaze Minato.
It was just absurd! If Feng Ye hadn't known the original storyline, he wouldn't have imagined that this Obito, who struggled with even the Clone Technique, would become one of the future Big Bads of the ninja world.
Shaking his head, Feng Ye averted his gaze.
He didn't have much to say about Obito, as Uchiha Madara was the true key player lurking in the shadows. Even without Obito, Madara would simply create another 'Uchiha Obito' or some variation thereof.
The most important thing was for him to strengthen himself.
After all, the Third Great Ninja War would begin in a year, and during times of war, there were no graduation exams. Everyone was forced to graduate at the age of nine, which meant he could only stay at the academy for one more year if he wanted to.
"I wonder if I can achieve the strength of a jonin within a year..."
Feng Ye mused to himself.
In the Third Great Ninja War, genin and chunin were essentially cannon fodder. He was fortunate to be in Konoha, as in other villages, even jonin were expendable due to the existence of BUG-level characters like Minato, who could take out fifty jonin in an instant.
If he could unlock a few more time-related abilities, he would be able to dominate the ninja world with his control over time alone. However, for now, he could only use the time acceleration corresponding to the 1-point position.
He still had to rely on ninjutsu and taijutsu.
As Feng Ye lost himself in thought, a crisp, clear dingdong rang out in his mind, like the sound of a clock striking a certain hour.
"Hmm?"
Feng Ye's eyes lit up with delight, and he closed his eyes.
In the darkness behind his eyelids, a massive, silver-white clock appeared, ethereal and fantastical, with clear golden hour and minute hands.
The hour hand remained pointing at the 1, but in the center of the clock face, there was a mechanism that resembled a date indicator. Instead of dates, however, it recorded the acceleration rate of time.
"I haven't unlocked any new abilities, but..."
Feng Ye pondered for a moment.
"As expected, I can now enter the triple-speed state."
Feng Ye breathed a sigh of relief as he gazed upon the numerals on the dial.
When he first transmigrated into this world, the time acceleration he could manipulate hovered between 1x and 1.5x speed. About a year later, he heard that crisp dingdong sound again, and his time acceleration limit doubled to 2x speed.
Now, his limit had tripled.
"It seems like the rate of acceleration increased around this time last year too... Perhaps once a year, the limit to my time acceleration ability will increase?"
A thought flashed through Feng Ye's mind.
Although he couldn't be sure, it seemed like a plausible pattern. Whether or not this was the case would become clear in a year's time.
He felt a twinge of disappointment that he still hadn't gained any other abilities, and he wondered when the ability corresponding to the 2 o'clock mark would unlock.
Nevertheless, the time acceleration ability alone was incredibly powerful.
In the state of time acceleration, he felt as if the world around him had slowed down to a third of its original speed. His own speed and reaction time had increased dramatically without any conflict!
If an ordinary Chunin could increase their time flow to five times the normal rate, they could easily take on a Jonin. And if a Jonin could achieve the same fivefold increase, even the Kage of the Five Great Shinobi Villages might struggle to win!
The same logic applied to Feng Ye!
As long as he possessed Chunin-level strength in his normal state, he could challenge a Jonin. And with Jonin-level strength, there would be very few in the ninja world who could match him.
This premise was based solely on a fivefold speed increase. If his Ethereal Clock could further enhance his speed to ten times or more, then speed alone would be a formidable ability.
"How strong would the Eight Inner Gates be at ten times speed...?"
Feng Ye's imagination ran wild.
He pictured an air cannon that was over ten times the size of the Evening Elephant, piercing through the clouds and shattering the moon created by the Sage of Six Paths into countless fragments in outer space.
At this thought, Feng Ye inhaled sharply, and it took him a few seconds to snap back to reality.
Ten times speed with the Eight Inner Gates was still a distant dream, but the technique was definitely worth considering. It would likely be one of the most compatible abilities with his time acceleration.
As for other techniques...
The ninjutsu he released was unaffected by the time acceleration and did not speed up its flight trajectory. The range of the time acceleration was limited to his body alone. However, his hand seals and release speed were also enhanced in the doubled speed state, resulting in significant improvements!
It was crucial to understand that the speed of a ninjutsu's release could make all the difference. Take the Flying Thunder God Technique, for instance, which struck fear into the hearts of the ninja world; its power lay in the absence of any delay during its activation or release.
Speaking of which...
With his current ability to achieve triple speed, Feng Ye could easily overpower Kakashi, who was already a Chunin, and with this new development, he believed he could comfortably defeat most elite Chunin. As for Jonin, he felt there was still some room for improvement.
"Am I... approaching the level of a special Jonin?"
Feng Ye assessed his current strength and felt he was close but not quite there yet. However, he was confident that by this time next year, he would have reached that level with ease.
In the ninja world, only those who attained the rank of special Jonin could be considered true 'strongers'. Chunin and Genin were little more than cannon fodder in times of war.
Above the rank of special Jonin were Jonin and elite Jonin, and at the very top was Kage. However, this world did not use the term 'Kage-level', so in terms of ninja rankings, elite Jonin was the pinnacle. In Feng Ye's opinion, exceptionally powerful ninja like Danzo and the White Fang of Konoha, whose strength far surpassed that of a typical elite Jonin, could be referred to as 'Kage-level' to distinguish them.
