Chapter 2 - The System
Ben's eyes fluttered open, and he found himself in a dimly lit room. The air was stale, and the walls were lined with rows of humming computers. A soft, blue light illuminated the space, casting an eerie glow over everything.
A small, sleek device lay on a nearby console, its screen flickering with data. Ben's heart skipped a beat as he realized what it was - the System.
"Welcome, Ben," a disembodied voice said, its tone neutral. "You have been transported into the world of Eridoria, a dimension where humans and monsters coexist. Your actions will determine your fate."
Ben's mind reeled as he tried to comprehend the situation. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice shaking.
"You are a player," the System replied. "A character in a game of survival. The monsters you see are NPCs, or Non-Player Characters. They are programmed to behave in certain ways, but they can also be manipulated by you, if you choose to do so."
Ben's eyes widened as he tried to understand the implications. He was a character in a game? And he had just been transported into a world where his actions could affect the outcome?
Suddenly, a loud, piercing noise echoed through the room, followed by the sound of footsteps. A figure emerged from the shadows, its eyes fixed on Ben with an unnerving intensity.
"Ah, yes," the System continued. "Your mother is a monster, a creature programmed to hunt and kill. She has been sent to eliminate you, Ben."
Ben's heart racing, he tried to stand up, but a hand clamped over his mouth, holding him in place.
"No, Mother!" he screamed, trying to struggle free.
The figure leaned in close, its breath cold and rank. "I'm afraid it's too late for that, Ben," it whispered. "You are now mine to command."
Ben's eyes went wide as he realized the truth - he was trapped in this world, forced to play the role of a character in a game. The System was his creator, and he was at its mercy.
As the figure leaned in closer, Ben's mind reeled with fear and uncertainty. What did he do now? How could he survive in a world where the rules were constantly shifting? And what lay ahead for him, trapped in this never-ending game of survival?
