Chapter 2: The Summoner
Chapter 2: The Summoner
As he left the medical room, Li Wu walked through the campus, holding the little skeleton close.
Everything he saw confirmed his realization that he had indeed traveled to a different world, a world unlike anything he knew in his past life.
In this campus, nearly every student he saw had a Summon Beast by their side.
These Summon Beasts came in all shapes and sizes.
Some, like the little skeleton he held, were Undead Summon Beasts.
Others, like the pig in Plumpie's arms, were Beast Summon Beasts.
There were even Summon Beasts resembling Goblin Gnomes from movies and games, following some students.
...
The diverse array of Summon Beasts gathered in one place gave Li Wu a powerful impression of a Fantasy World.
He couldn't help but feel dizzy, questioning if he was dreaming. He pinched his arm to check.
"Ouch, that didn't hurt. I must be dreaming."
Of course it didn't hurt; he pinched someone else's arm. Plumpie, however, felt the pinch and winced. She was more concerned about Li Wu's situation.
In her eyes, summoning the little skeleton was a significant blow to Li Wu, one that he seemed reluctant to accept.
This made Plumpie feel distressed, wanting to comfort him but unsure what to say.
Before she could decide, Li Wu had already run ahead and started flirting with a girl, asking to touch her Summon Beast.
"Hey, your Summon Beast is so cute. Can I pet it?"
"Sure!"
Li Wu's flirting was cliche, but the girl didn't want to reject him. When she saw his ordinary face, she politely handed over her Summon Beast.
Simultaneously, she shyly took out her phone, ready to add him as a friend.
After petting the Summon Beast, Li Wu thanked her and ran off.
The girl was left dumbfounded. "He just ran off after I took out my phone? What a jerk!"
Li Wu continued his approach, petting several girls' Summon Beasts before stopping.
On one hand, he had collected the data he wanted.
On the other hand, the girls whose Summon Beasts he had touched glared at him, making Li Wu feel uncomfortable.
He couldn't understand why they looked so resentful; he had only touched their Summon Beasts.
Unable to bear the stares, Li Wu pulled Plumpie and ran out of the campus.
Outside the campus, at a bus stop, Li Wu let go of Plumpie's hand and noticed her plump, rosy face. He frowned, "Why is your face so red? You're already out of breath from running a few steps? Listen, this won't do. If you continue like this, you won't become a successful Summoner. You need to know that you must improve."
"Yes!" Plumpie nodded, maintaining a submissive demeanor.
Li Wu didn't bother to say more as the bus arrived. He boarded the bus.
"Beep, student card!"
Li Wu found a window seat and sat down. As the bus moved, the world he found himself in, both familiar and strange, began to unfold before him.
In this world, a realm akin to Li Wu's previous life exists, but with a significant twist.
Over a hundred years ago, this world underwent a dramatic transformation. The creatures from various novels and films manifested, and mysterious realms sprouted like mushrooms after rain, an astonishing occurrence. Even more baffling was the sudden and unexplained loss of functionality of firearms.
This turn of events plunged the world into a prolonged period of chaos.
Decades later, human society regained stability and peace.
Amidst this upheaval, Summoners emerged as the pivotal force in restoring order. During the chaotic times, humans discovered their newfound ability to tame, summon, and command these creatures, forming pacts with them.
Thus, the profession of Summoners was born.
Humans relied on Summoners to end the turmoil, reclaiming control and establishing a precious peace alongside the coexistence of humans and Summon Beasts.
The world has since stabilized, and the story begins...
In this new world, Summoners, or more accurately, Professional Summoners, are the most revered profession.
Almost every young boy and girl aspires to become a Professional Summoner, and Li Wu's predecessor was no exception.
However, the path to becoming a Professional Summoner is not an easy endeavor.
Currently, there are only two avenues for ordinary individuals to attain this status: enrolling in and graduating from Summoner University or passing the Summoner Guild's assessment.
These are the sole paths to obtaining a Professional Summoner license and becoming a respected and admired Summoner.
For Li Wu, the first option is the most suitable and official route.
As he organized his memories, perhaps out of reverence for Summoners or influenced by his predecessor's recollections, he set himself a small goal.
"I must get into Summoner University and become a Professional Summoner!"
Li Wu's brows furrowed as he set this goal, for he recalled the challenges of entering Summoner University.
His memories revealed that the current path to the university seemed daunting.
Admission to Summoner University had two prerequisites: academic performance and rankings in the National High School Summoner League.
These two factors collectively constituted the comprehensive college entrance examination in this world.
Both presented significant hurdles for Li Wu.
Regarding academics:
His predecessor was an academic underachiever, and Li Wu, as a transmigrator, hadn't fully organized his memories. Attempting to study for exams in this state could result in a score of zero.
This alone was enough to give Li Wu a headache.
But what truly troubled him was the National High School Summoner Tournament.
