Chapter 2: On the Advantages of an Orphan's Starting Point
Chapter 2: On the Advantages of an Orphan's Starting Point
[Obtained Reward - Perception Ninjutsu]
[First completed lesson, obtained reward - Appraisal Technique]
[First time achieving an 'A' rating, obtained reward - Proficiency in Fire-nature Chakra Control]
Mu Yue was pleasantly surprised to receive three rewards at once, feeling as though his mind had suddenly been filled with a wealth of new memories, most notably those related to the cultivation of fire-nature chakra control.
The memories felt incredibly vivid, giving Mu Yue the illusion that he was an elderly ninja who had specialized in fire-style jutsu throughout his entire life.
"Teacher Hushui, may I ask you a question?" Itachi asked respectfully.
Hearing Itachi's words, Mu Yue, who had been about to review the feedback on the panel, stopped and led Itachi to the back of the empty teaching building. After using a perception jutsu to sense for any powerful chakra signatures, he was satisfied that there were none.
Relieved, Mu Yue smiled and said, "Is there something about the lesson you didn't understand? Go ahead and ask."
Itachi shook his head. "It's not about the lecture. I have a doubt about something else."
"You know, Teacher, the Senju clan and the Uchiha clan founded Konoha together," Itachi began. "But why is it that nowadays, everyone only remembers the Senju clan and rarely mentions the Uchiha clan's contributions?"
Despite his young age, Itachi was unusually mature and perceptive. When he accompanied his elders outside, he noticed the strange looks people gave them when they saw the clan emblem on their backs.
"Even though both clans are credited with establishing the village, why is it that the Uchiha clan's achievements are not only forgotten but they also seem to be disliked by the villagers?" Itachi wondered aloud.
Seeing the confusion on Itachi's face, Mu Yue couldn't help but sigh inwardly. "How can you compare the reputation of Hashirama Senju in Konoha to that of Madara Uchiha?" he thought to himself.
"You've probably only read about your clan's history, haven't you?" Mu Yue asked.
Itachi nodded. The only information he had access to at the moment was what the Uchiha clan had recorded.
"A lot has happened over the years, and it's difficult to explain everything in a short time," Mu Yue said, a hint of hesitation in his voice.
Sensing Mu Yue's reluctance, Itachi felt guilty for putting him on the spot. He was about to drop the subject when Mu Yue spoke up again.
"Never mind," Mu Yue sighed. "If you have time after school, come find me, and I'll tell you about the history between the clans."
"After all, I suppose I owe the Uchiha clan a debt of gratitude, so consider it a way for me to repay that debt."
Itachi was puzzled. How could Teacher Mu Yue owe their clan a favor? So he asked directly.
"My parents were once trapped by enemies during a war and were saved by an Uchiha named Uchiha Kagami," Mu Yue fabricated with a grateful expression. "Although they eventually perished in a later battle, I've always remembered that life-saving favor."
He was glad that his original body had been an orphan; it gave him much more room to maneuver.
He had to admit that sometimes, the dead were more useful than the living.
Itachi's eyes widened, and a look of disbelief crossed his face. Uchiha Kagami was his grandfather, and he never expected to have such a connection with Teacher Mu Yue. He felt a strange sense of wonder.
However, Itachi was not the type to hold a favor over someone's head, so he didn't make a fuss about it. He simply thanked Mu Yue.
Before Itachi left, Mu Yue decided to use the Appraisal Technique on him.
Name: Uchiha Itachi
Chakra: 500
Potential: SS-
Evaluation: Possesses the bloodline of the Six Paths, suitable for mastering Fire-style jutsu and genjutsu. Immense potential. Recommended to take on disciples.
As Mu Yue walked back to the office, he marveled at the two dazzling gold 'S' ratings, silently agreeing with the system's recommendation to take on disciples. After all, it was no small feat to be able to unlock the Susanoo with a single Sharingan eye.
Out of curiosity, Mu Yue opened his own status panel to check if there had been any changes.
Name: Hushui Mu Yue
Age: 18
Chakra: 4300
Evaluation: Proficient in Fire-nature Chakra Control. Your scarce chakra reserves are your biggest limitation. If you can overcome this shortcoming, you would undoubtedly be considered an elite among jonin.
"It seems that 'Proficiency' is even more powerful than I imagined," Mu Yue mused, realizing that he might have underestimated the value of those two words.
He had initially thought that it might be equivalent to the knowledge of an upper jonin in terms of nature transformation, but now it appeared that his understanding of fire-nature chakra control alone might already be on par with the Third Hokage.
After all, aside from two fire-style jutsu, he only knew basic techniques like the Body Flicker Technique, the Shadow Clone Jutsu, and some standard taijutsu. With the rewards he had obtained and by increasing his chakra reserves, he would undoubtedly reach the level of an elite jonin.
Firstly, the curse seal that Root members carried made him feel insecure. Secondly, Danzo, that old fool, liked to send his subordinates on suicide missions, which made him even more anxious.
"I need to take on disciples quickly and enhance my strength. Even if I can't reach the level where I can kill Danzo and leave with flair, I should at least have the ability to protect myself." Mu Yue set a short-term goal for himself.
As Mu Yue entered the office, he noticed three other teachers inside, two men and one woman, complaining about their students.
He recognized all three, as he had met his colleagues when he first arrived at the school before his previous life's memories returned.
Out of curiosity, Mu Yue decided to use the Appraisal Technique on each of them.
Name: Isamu Ikezawa
Chakra: 2000
Potential: C
Evaluation: A disposable middle-level ninja
All three teachers had similar data, and the system deemed them as expendable.
"I'm so unlucky," Isamu Ikezawa sighed. "How did I end up with Class 2-4? I'm already teaching Class 3-1.
How am I supposed to handle it? Both Might Guy and Obito Uchiha, those two dead-last students, are in Class 2-4." Isamu helplessly spread his hands.
"My family has arranged a blind date for me tomorrow afternoon, and that happens to be when I have Class 2-4," he added.
"Find a teacher who's free tomorrow, or just take the day off. Your love life is more important," Ayame Ueda suggested.
At that moment, Ayame noticed Mu Yue entering the room and greeted him with a smile. "How was your first class, Teacher Hushui? Were the little tricks I taught you helpful?"
Mu Yue recalled how the enthusiastic female teacher had advised him to silently recite 'radishes and cabbages' to calm his nerves during his first lecture.
"Thank you, those tricks were very useful. But after class, my students advised me not to be a picky eater," he replied politely.
"Haha, Teacher Hushui, you're quite funny," Ayame laughed, assuming that Mu Yue's lighthearted comment meant he had comfortably gotten through his first class.
"Teacher Ikezawa, I don't have any classes tomorrow afternoon. If you need help, I can cover for you," Mu Yue offered as he placed his lesson plan on the desk, feigning goodwill.
Unlike the other teachers, Mu Yue hoped for a full schedule, especially since Class 2-4 had both Obito and Might Guy, whom he was eager to meet.
Isamu's face lit up with joy, and he quickly expressed his gratitude, promising to treat Mu Yue to a meal in return.
...
In the Hokage's office, the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, stroked his goat-like beard as he watched Mu Yue through a crystal ball, lecturing seriously about the Will of Fire. He felt that this young Root member was quite promising and understood the Will of Fire.
Danzo thought he had hidden his actions well, but Sarutobi was already aware of a portion of the ninja that Root had cultivated but had not included in their official roster.
However, Sarutobi felt that as long as Danzo was strengthening Konoha's forces and not going too far, he could turn a blind eye.
But when it came to the Ninja Academy, Sarutobi paid close attention. He was pleasantly surprised to see that this Root member's first lesson was about the Will of Fire and instilling a sense of responsibility in his students.
"Let's see how he performs going forward. If he proves to be talented, I'll have him leave Root," Sarutobi decided.
Mu Yue's current performance wasn't enough for Sarutobi to demand his release from Danzo.
While Danzo's ninja was technically under Sarutobi's jurisdiction, he still needed to consider his old classmate's feelings.
With that thought, Sarutobi discontinued his Telescope Technique and began processing paperwork, planning to inspect Konoha again in the evening.
...
After finishing his meal, Itachi made his way to the location Mu Yue had given him to find his residence.
Mu Yue's home was in the sparsely populated southeastern part of Konoha, a remote area far from the main district.
Fortunately, due to the sparse buildings, Itachi quickly located Mu Yue's home—a single-story wooden house nestled in a modest courtyard.
As Itachi stepped into the courtyard, he was greeted by a sight that left him stunned and his heart pounding wildly.
