Chapter 2: Initiating the First Crossing
Chapter 2: Initiating the First Crossing
...
This peculiar virtual Panel appeared on the first day he was reborn in this world, and only he could see it.
After years of study and the Panel's own explanations, he had more or less figured out its primary functions.
Firstly, whenever he did good deeds, the Panel would accumulate Little Red Stars for him. Once he accumulated 5,000 Little Red Stars, he could exchange them for a special Wizard Bloodline and be sent to a Parallel World to study magic.
According to the Panel, while he was in the Parallel World, time in the main world would come to a standstill.
Over the years, Jerry had been diligently doing whatever good deeds he could manage—like helping grandmothers cross the street, assisting his mobility-impaired neighbor with the trash, beating up bullies, and taking on household chores.
Additionally, with the mind of an adult, his academic performance at school naturally excelled.
As a result, whether it was his relatives at home, the neighbors around him, or his teachers at school, everyone saw him as an exemplary child, the kind they often referred to as "someone else's child."
He also noticed that while the Panel rewarded him with Little Red Stars for good deeds, it did not punish him for bad deeds.
For example, stealing or snatching candy from children did not result in the deduction of Little Red Stars.
"6000"
Looking at the number of Little Red Stars he had accumulated on the Panel, Jerry took a deep breath and clicked the exchange button.
In fact, he had already accumulated enough Little Red Stars to exchange for a Wizard Bloodline and enter the Parallel World half a year ago.
But he had been hesitant to make the exchange.
The Panel had warned that if he died in the Parallel World, he would also die in the main world. Similarly, any injuries sustained in the Parallel World would carry over to his body in the main world.
His current family, though not wealthy, was comfortably middle-class.
Moreover, with his reborn life and his focus on studies, he believed his future living standards would not be too bad. Did he really need to risk everything by venturing into an unknown wizarding world?
Compared to the thrilling adventures, Jerry actually preferred a peaceful and stable life.
His dream in his previous life was to have a car, a house, a gentle and caring wife, a warm meal after work, and the chance to travel with his family on holidays. He did not aspire to great wealth or fame; all he wanted was a peaceful and happy family life.
Unfortunately, those dreams were not easy for a child from a rural background to achieve. Even until his untimely death in his previous life, he had not saved enough for a down payment on a house.
But now, he had confirmed that the world he was in was the dangerous Marvel universe.
The sound of machine guns nearby made it clear that without some personal power, he and his family in this life would not be safe.
Although Jerry preferred a peaceful life, he was not without courage.
"Confirm the exchange of Wizard Bloodline, begin implantation."
"Implantation successful, initiating extraction of Parallel World."
"Successfully extracted Harry Potter Parallel World, beginning identity implantation."
"Identity implantation successful, initiating entry."
"First entry into the Parallel World will last one month. To continue the experience, please exchange Little Red Stars for time!"
As the lines of text appeared on the Panel, Jerry found that the world around him seemed to come to a standstill. He then lost consciousness, his vision fading to black.
August 1, 1991.
In an orphanage in Wennington, Surrey, London, a brown-haired boy slowly sat up in bed.
"I can't believe it's the Harry Potter world. At least I've seen all the movies!"
The young boy rubbed his still-dizzy temples and let out a long sigh of relief.
He had initially thought he would be transported to a strange magical world, but to his pleasant surprise, it turned out to be the world of Harry Potter. This brought a smile to Jerry's face.
Although much of the finer details had faded from his memory over time, he still remembered the general plot.
In this world, as long as he stayed away from the Golden Trio, he would be quite safe at least until Voldemort's resurrection.
And Voldemort's return was still several years away, probably four or five years from now.
Feeling less dizzy, Jerry began to sort through the information that had been implanted in his mind about his identity in this world.
Here, he was also named Jerry Carmen, but he had no family. He was an orphan at Edward Orphanage.
The other information included a brief introduction to the orphanage staff and some of the other orphans, but that was all.
"Let's get familiar with the surroundings first!"
After putting on his shoes and clothes, Jerry was about to open the door and leave the room when he heard a "tap-tap" sound coming from the window.
Turning his head, he saw a Gray Long-eared Owl perched outside, holding a letter in its beak and tapping on the closed window with its claws.
"Could it be that soon?"
Jerry quickly turned and went to the window, opening it to let the owl in.
The owl flew into the room, placed the envelope on the table, and let out a hoot, as if asking for something to eat.
Jerry looked around, then searched his pockets and shrugged at the owl with an awkward but polite smile.
Seeing this, the owl hooted again, as if muttering "bad luck", and spread its wings to fly away through the window.
"Well",
He hadn't expected to be looked down upon by an owl on his first day here.
Shaking his head, Jerry stepped forward and picked up the letter lying on the table.
The envelope was not made of ordinary paper but of a vintage parchment. On the front, a few lines were written in a strange emerald green ink:
Recipient: Jerry Carmen
Address: Jerry Carmen, Edward Orphanage, Second Floor, Wennington, Surrey.
On the back, a familiar wax seal was imprinted.
The seal featured a large letter "H" surrounded by a lion, an eagle, a badger, and a snake.
Opening the envelope, he found two pieces of parchment inside. One listed the required books and essential items for a first-year Hogwarts student, along with some important notes.
The other was the official Hogwarts acceptance letter:
"Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore
(International Confederation of Wizards President, Grand Sorcerer of the Order of Merlin, First Class, Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot)
Dear Mr. Jerry Carmen,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Enclosed is a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on September 1. We will personally visit Edward Orphanage tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM to collect your reply.
Deputy Headmistress
Minerva Mcgonagall"
Jerry carefully put away the acceptance letter and murmured to himself:
"Good, the sooner I start, the sooner I can go to Diagon Alley to buy magic books and learn magic. That way, I might stand a chance of dealing with those armed robbers when I return in a month!"
