Chapter 2: House Legend
Chapter 2: House Legend
Ivan was about to ask another question, but the cheerful applause from the audience below interrupted him. He had to suppress his curiosity, placed the Sorting Hat on a four-legged table, and walked down the steps.
Seeing Ivan come down, a few Upper-year Students on the Gryffindor bench moved over to make room for him.
A pair of identical twins with fiery red hair playfully pushed Ivan into the empty seat between them. One of them spoke in an exaggerated tone.
"Good heavens, I bet you're the first to dare be so disrespectful to Professor Mcgonagall during the sorting ceremony. This is really—"
"Really what?" Ivan asked, puzzled.
"Really incredibly brave!" the other twin chimed in.
"You're destined to become a legend in the house!" The twins looked at each other and said in unison.
Hearing their response, Ivan almost lost his breath. The twins' logic was truly unique, and he couldn't quite understand it.
"Alright, thanks", Ivan politely thanked the twins for their "blessing" and then asked, "I'm Ivan Hals, what about you?"
"I'm George Weasley, and that one over there is Fred", one of the twins said, winking at Ivan. "You'd better remember, the next time we meet, don't mix us up. Fred hates it when people call him by the wrong name."
"Got it, George. I don't think I'll mix you up", Ivan said, fully aware of their trick and not falling for it. He then turned to the other twin.
"Right, Fred?"
Fred, who had been planning to play a trick on the new student with his brother, was stunned. George, who had been talking to Ivan, was also taken aback for a moment before asking, "Wait, how did you know I was George?"
"That's not hard to guess, is it? Who doesn't know that the Weasley Twins love pranks among the new students?" Ivan couldn't say he had read it in a book, so he came up with an excuse on the spot.
"Good heavens, we're that famous already? Even the new students know?" George and Fred exclaimed in surprise, marveling that their years of challenging Hogwarts rules had finally paid off.
"Ha!" Ron, who was eating nearby, almost spat out his food. When did his two brothers become so famous among the new students at Hogwarts? How did he not know?
George and Fred, on the other hand, were curious about what Ivan had whispered to the Sorting Hat on the stage. They had never seen anyone talk to the hat for so long.
Ivan half-truthfully dodged the question, knowing that being skilled in Dark Magic wasn't something to brag about in Gryffindor.
Taking the opportunity, Ivan steered the conversation toward the twins' adventures at Hogwarts, subtly inquiring about the locations and information of the various secret passages in the school.
Having read the original story, Ivan knew that the Weasley Twins had a Marauder's Map that showed most of the secret passages in Hogwarts and could even mark the names of people inside.
With this map, one could move freely through the magical castle without worrying about being caught by the Professors or the caretaker.
Although Ivan had read the original story in his past life and knew many of Hogwarts' secrets, he couldn't remember everything, so the map was still very useful.
The Weasley Twins, facing a fanboy-like Ivan, revealed a lot of information without any reservations. They even tried to recruit Ivan to join their pranks.
However, Ivan did not reveal anything about the magic map.
Ivan was not surprised. After all, it was their first meeting, and no matter how well they chatted, it would be impossible to reveal such an important secret. Ivan was merely trying to gain some favor to lay the groundwork for the future.
However, at that moment, a mysterious voice suddenly rang in Ivan's mind.
* Ding, the host has obtained secret information. Task generated:*
* Task Objective: Explore Hogwarts*
* Current Progress: 2/100*
* Task Introduction: Curiosity to explore the unknown is something every young wizard should possess. The thousand-year-old castle contains countless secrets. Please explore and understand them. When the exploration progress reaches a certain level, a reward will be given based on performance. *
Ivan was momentarily stunned by the sudden message, and his conversation with the Weasley twins came to a halt.
A golden finger?
Ivan quickly reacted and was soon filled with joy.
Although he was happy and grateful for the chance to live again after mysteriously being transported to Hogwarts, Ivan also felt a sense of unease about suddenly finding himself in a strange environment. He had suppressed these feelings to maintain his cover.
Now, he felt much more at ease.
Ivan casually dismissed the Weasley twins, who were eager to continue talking about their adventures, and focused on exploring this new golden finger. After trying various methods from novels to summon the System, a series of information finally appeared before Ivan.
* Ivan*Hals*
* Occupation: Wizard*
* Magic Bar: Fear Curse Level 1 (3/200)*
* Knowledge Theory: Potion Making Level 0 (435/500)*
* Magic Items:*
* Wand (Yew, Unicorn Hair, Eleven and three-quarters inches)*
* Magic Power: Moderate*
* Wand Affinity: 72.5%*
* Academic Points: None*
The information panel that appeared was as expected by Ivan, but some of its contents were a bit surprising.
"Fear Curse? Potion Making?" Ivan muttered slowly. As a newly transported young wizard who had not yet fully understood the situation, these abilities could not have been his.
Recalling the memories that had surfaced in his mind earlier, Ivan immediately realized that they must have belonged to the young wizard named Ivan*Hals, whom he now inhabited, and who had learned these spells before entering school.
This was not uncommon among young wizards. Even Hermione Granger, who came from a Muggle family, managed to learn some basic spells through self-study before starting school. It was even more common for those from wizarding families.
However, the Fear Curse was a spell that Ivan had never heard of before, and it did not seem to be one of the spells that appeared in the original story.
Ivan was not surprised by this. After all, Harry Potter was just a novel, and it only showcased a small part of the magical world. It was impossible to cover every single spell, and the original story featured very few Dark Magic spells. Real Dark Wizards would certainly know many more.
After all, the Restricted Section of Hogwarts contained countless books on Dark Magic.
Of course, what Ivan was more curious about, or worried about, was the background of his original host's family. A family that taught their child Dark Magic before school clearly did not have good intentions.
Ivan was very concerned for his safety. If someone discovered that the young wizard Ivan*Hals had been possessed by a soul from another world, who knew what kind of Dark Magic would be waiting for him.
