Chapter 2: An Ordinary Man
Chapter 2: An Ordinary Man
"Two building blueprints, a skill book, and a unit enhancement book." Qin Muye examined his backpack. Besides the blueprints for a farm and a sprite workshop, he also had two books: Basic Magic and Sprite Experiment Manual. These two books were what he had found on the second floor of the Mage Tower.
Basic Magic
Learning Requirement: Knowledge 10
+5% Damage for Attack Spells
At first glance, it seemed like a pretty decent skill book, and the fact that it was marked as "Basic" suggested that the skill could be developed further.
"So, this is Heroes of Might and Magic then."
Qin Muye then checked his personal attributes. He had a mere 10 points in Knowledge, which he had accumulated through nine years of compulsory education. He could confidently say he had at least 5 points.
Lord Level 1 (0/1000)
Territory: Mage Tower (Ruined)
Health: 100%
Mana: 0
Attack: 0 (Lord's attack can boost the attack power of his units by 10%)
Defense: 0 (Lord's defense can boost the defense of his units by 10%)
Strength: 0 (Lord's strength can increase the damage of attack spells and enhance the effects and duration of support spells)
Knowledge: 0 (Knowledge affects the Lord's maximum mana, with 1 point of Knowledge equating to 10 points of maximum mana)
Lord Talent: Learning Ability (Gains 50% extra experience when earning experience)
Lord Skill: Basic Reconnaissance (Temporary)
"..."
Looking at his attributes, Qin Muye was truly stunned. Apart from his 100% health, everything else was 0. This was a rather shocking realization, and he didn't have any of the godlike talents he had hoped for. The only thing he had was a talent that increased his experience gain by 50%, which seemed useful from the start to the end but was ultimately quite insignificant.
"I overestimated myself." Although Qin Muye was somewhat shocked by his attributes, he didn't dwell on it too much. After all, worrying wouldn't solve anything.
"Since I can't use Basic Magic, maybe the Sprite Experiment Manual will be a pleasant surprise."
He knew his initial units were sprites. If he wasn't up to the task, his units could still carry the load, and he was fine with that.
Sprite Experiment Manual
Research Requirement: Level 2 Territory, Magic Guild/Mage Tower-related building
Using this will grant research technologies for Sprite Attack Enhancement, Sprite Defense Enhancement, and Sprite Health Enhancement
"Not bad, but the requirements are a bit strict, needing a Level 2 territory."
As for the additional building requirements, Qin Muye didn't mind. His territory was the Mage Tower, which explained why the initial units in the starter pack were sprites.
"Let's build the sprite workshop first. Then I can lead my troops into battle." Qin Muye immediately chose to start building the sprite workshop on the second floor.
Building Sprite Workshop, Cost: 50 units of ore, 50 units of wood, Time Required: 1 hour
Watching the ethereal glow appear, Qin Muye felt a bit of excitement.
However, the fact that building required time was something he hadn't expected. He had thought it would just appear instantly.
"I have 100 units of food, 50 units of white bread, and 50 units of water. So, it seems the daily consumption for units is food."
“Wait, that’s not right. Besides units, I also need to consume food.”
Even though he had been digitized, he still required food to sustain himself.
“From this, it’s clear that food, although a single resource category, is likely more complex than it seems.”
Qin Muye immediately understood the importance of food. He first headed to the supply warehouse, a building that came with his territory, located on the first underground level of the mage tower.
This place was not only a supply warehouse but also housed a dry magic pool.
Qin Muye scanned the area. The supplies were neatly arranged, and everything was visible at a glance. There were only four types: bread, water, wood, and minerals.
“Right now, I’m still weak. I’ll manage with this for now. Once the supply warehouse expands, I’ll store food separately.”
Currently, the warehouse could hold about 5,000 units of wood or minerals. As for food, it could store more.
“Water isn’t a concern; my mage tower is by a mountain and a river. The main issue is the staple food. It would be great if I could exchange 50 units of water for white bread instead.”
White bread was different from wood and minerals. Qin Muye had already checked: 50 units of white bread meant 50 slices of bread, which was a bit of a problem.
“Fortunately, I have farmland. I need to get this done as soon as possible.”
Qin Muye was about to build the farmland when he remembered something. While having farmland could produce food, there was a critical issue: he had no seeds.
“So, the first problem I need to solve is the food issue. I hope this farmland is as magical as in Lord of the Ages and doesn’t require seeds. Otherwise, I’ll have to go fishing.”
He realized that he was essentially starting from scratch. Now, he could only hope that the sprite unit would be useful. So far, there hadn’t been any good news.
“At this point, in a typical power-up story, the lord would already be leading his units to battle monsters. Here I am, still worrying about food.”
Qin Muye sighed, feeling a bit helpless. His start was mediocre at best, not particularly favorable.
Leaving the mage tower, Qin Muye noticed that the protective barrier was quite large. It not only covered the entire mage tower but also extended about a kilometer in every direction, likely marking the initial territory range.
It was indeed vast, and there were even scattered resources within the barrier.
[Building farmland. Cost: 10 units of food. Time required: 10 minutes.]
Qin Muye checked the food details on the resource panel. The shortage wasn’t in white bread but in water, which made him breathe a sigh of relief. It was still somewhat intelligent; if there were no slices of bread, he would have been furious.
The farmland wasn’t as large as the sprite workshop, only about 5 square meters. Qin Muye decided to build it and see how it went. Once it was built, he could always expand it later. He had already learned the blueprint, so he could build as many as he needed with sufficient resources.
And he didn’t lack water; there was a river not far from the mage tower.
“While I wait, I might as well gather the resources within my territory. Venturing out is too risky; I’d be done for if I ran into any wild monsters.” Qin Muye muttered to himself and began his task.
