Chapter 199: Where Are We?
Chapter 199: Where Are We?
Accompanied by a noise similar to a plane taking off or landing, the Warehouse quickly became blurry and then disappeared. Liam felt a light, airy sensation from within, as if his entire body had floated up into the clouds.
But this peaceful feeling didn't last for more than a few seconds. Liam suddenly felt himself spinning uncontrollably, as if being pulled by an external force.
"Wasn't this supposed to be a safe escape? What's happening now?" Liam tried to contact the Multiverse General Store, only to receive a less-than-optimistic explanation: while it was allowed to bring someone along during an escape, this action disrupted the balance of the dimension passage's magical power.
Worse still, during an Emergency Escape, a dimension passage was opened randomly, not the most stable one selected for regular traversal. Although the emporium's power would try to protect those in the escape passage, it couldn't completely avoid the effects.
Liam carefully felt the tearing sensation on his body, which wasn't too severe. This must be the Planar Emporium's protection at work; otherwise, the spatial turbulence between dimensions would have shredded them long ago.
If they could use magic, a simple Armor Charm might have been enough to shield them from these tears. However, both of them were in a state of magical power depletion, so the damage they suffered was much greater.
Fortunately, the injury from the Heavenly Retribution had only affected his internal magical power and the meridians related to spellcasting, not his entire body.
Liam thought about condensing the small amount of magical power that had just formed within him into a Thorn Rune for protection—aiming to shield their vital areas. He then tightly embraced Hermione, who had no protection, and activated the Purple Mist Divine Art to provide the only defense he had left.
Liam felt as if he had been thrown into a washing machine, with various forces hitting him in waves. Even with the Purple Mist Divine Art protecting him, he could still feel as if his body was being cut by razor blades.
Fortunately, this was an escape passage designed with the safety of the escapees as the top priority, minimizing all adverse factors. Just as he was about to give in, the destination finally arrived.
When his feet touched the ground, he collapsed onto the floor, the small amount of recovered magical power completely drained in the dimension passage. His school robe was now tattered, and the turbulence in the passage had even cut through his leather armor. Liam could feel a few wounds that had reached his bones and even his lungs.
Worse still, his arms and legs, which had no protection, were covered in numerous cuts, some so deep that he could see the bone. He even felt his limbs beginning to lose sensation.
Due to his arm injuries, Liam couldn't hold onto Hermione. The impact of landing caused her to roll out of his embrace. Although Liam had blocked most of the attacks, her back and calves, exposed to the turbulence in the dimension passage, were also bloody, covered in wounds of various sizes.
Perhaps because of the pain, Hermione was now conscious. She closed her eyes and asked in as steady a voice as she could: "Have we escaped?"
"Yes, we've escaped. We should be safe now." As soon as Liam finished speaking, Hermione opened her eyes and met his gaze, then smiled weakly: "That's great. We're both alive."
Indeed, although the injuries were severe, at least everyone had survived.
Seeing the wounds on Liam's body, Hermione's eyes quickly flashed with shock and guilt. She struggled to pull out her wand and said, "I know a few healing spells. Let me help you stop the bleeding first."
"Don't move around. Just lie there. I can take care of my wounds in a moment." Liam said, reaching for the Spatial Bag on his waist with his blood-soaked hand. Fortunately, the Spatial Bag was securely tied and hadn't been lost.
"Don't be stubborn. You have so many wounds. If you wait too long, you really could die", Hermione said weakly, trying to shout. She was about to crawl over to release a healing spell on Liam but suddenly paused.
She saw Liam pull out a metal syringe and inject himself. All his wounds began to heal at a visible speed.
"Phew—" Liam let out a long breath, then used his elbow to crawl over to Hermione (his calf was too badly injured to stand). He then pulled out another syringe and injected Hermione. After the Elixirs entered her body, her wounds also began to heal rapidly.
One couldn't help but admit that the healing needles from the Radiation World were incredibly powerful, almost to the point of being unscientific. As long as the damage was purely physical, even limb regeneration was possible (Yue Buqun vouched for it).
"Incredible", Hermione sighed, watching her wounds heal quickly. She then looked at Liam, who was trying to stand up. His wounds had mostly healed, and some were even beginning to scar over.
At that moment, Hermione suddenly blushed and closed her eyes, turning her head away. Liam then realized how cold he felt; with so many wounds, his clothes were in no better condition. Even though his leather armor had protected his vital areas, the rest of his clothes were in tatters.
Liam thought to himself that he should get some Bulletproof Cloth from the Radiation World to make a new set of clothes. He turned his back to Hermione, knowing that her clothes were likely in a similar state. After all, during the dimension passage, everyone had been too focused on survival to worry about their clothes.
Fortunately, with the large Spatial Bag, Liam had stored various living essentials, including clothes, in one of the dimensions. However, all the clothes were from his time as a general in the Radiation World, and there were no women's clothes.
Thankfully, most people could wear clothes a few sizes larger, and since girls enter puberty earlier, Hermione's figure wasn't much different from Liam's. The only issue was that Liam didn't have any women's undergarments, so he could only hope Hermione's old clothes were still wearable.
After tossing a Militia Uniform to Hermione, Liam went behind a large rock to change. He had to praise British Wizarding Household Magic; the blood and dirt on his body were quickly and thoroughly cleaned.
Soon, both of them were wearing American Revolutionary War Uniforms, sitting by the rock and sharing rations and water. After they had eaten and drunk their fill, a question loomed before them: even though they could only spend an hour in this world regardless of how long they stayed, this was an Emergency Escape, and the Emporium System needed at least a week to locate and connect the passage between the two worlds.
So, they would have to survive in this world for at least a week. In this situation, the most crucial information Liam needed was the general overview of this world.
