Chapter 198: If You're This Good, Why Not Sell Arms?
Chapter 198: If You’re This Good, Why Not Sell Arms?
However, Ivan carefully considered it and concluded that these rune-like things were likely not used for making Magical Items.
Ivan was confident in his ability to make this distinction.
Having ruled out one possibility, Ivan saw that George and Fred were also at a loss, so he stopped asking and instead started discussing the business model of Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes.
George and Fred even suggested formally hiring Ivan as a special consultant for Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, with a one-third share in the business.
"Are you sure? I don’t seem to have done much as a special consultant", Ivan was quite surprised.
The research on these Magical Items was done entirely by George and Fred, so Ivan didn’t want to take advantage of them.
"Of course, Fred and I decided this together. You’ve contributed so many ideas to us, which have been a great help", George nodded and said.
Fred added, "Besides, we haven’t thanked you yet for helping us secure the Ministry of Magic order during the summer. Otherwise, Mum would have burned all our research."
At this, George and Fred exchanged a smile and told Ivan about the funny incidents that happened at the Burrow, ending with a joke.
"When Mum saw the fifty Galleons you sent us, she thought we had done something wrong. She didn’t even believe us when we said it was a down payment from the Ministry."
Ivan hadn’t realized that having Maca deliver the Galleons would make Mrs. Weasley accept George and Fred’s research work. He remembered that Mrs. Weasley had always disliked their lack of focus on their studies.
"So, you’re completely free to do whatever research you want now?" Ivan genuinely felt happy for the two of them.
"More or less", Fred nodded.
But he quickly looked dejected, smacking his lips. "But Mum requires us to get at least an Exceeds Expectations in all our subjects this semester, or she won’t let us continue our research."
Ivan shrugged, indicating he couldn’t do much about it. George and Fred’s academic performance was actually quite good.
But achieving Exceeds Expectations in all subjects while also conducting research was indeed a tall order.
After moping for a while, George and Fred quickly adjusted their mood.
There was still a long way to go before the end of the term, so they still had time to catch up.
George put aside these troubling thoughts and said to Ivan, "So, the one-third share is what you deserve."
"Alright, if you say so", Ivan, given this, didn’t refuse any further.
For example, the early stages of the joke shop could rely on practical items like the Self-Inking Quill and the Skiving Snackbox to quickly boost sales.
After all, homework and classes were the most headache-inducing things for most young wizards.
The upcoming Quidditch match, in Ivan’s view, was an excellent opportunity for promoting and selling joke Magical Items.
For instance, they could create Voice Amplification Charms and Team Banners that display the team names, which most Quidditch fans would be willing to buy.
Improving the Bouncing Bulbs into celebratory fireworks would be something the winning house would definitely need to celebrate.
Ivan spoke at length, and George and Fred quickly joined in the discussion.
"So, it looks like we'll have buyers for our dungbombs. The colleges that lose the matches will definitely need these to vent their anger", George suddenly thought of this.
"Right! If we modify the Bang Fireworks, they could be used for physical attacks. We can sell some to the young witches and wizards from rival colleges and let them fight each other!" Fred became increasingly excited as he spoke.
Ivan stared blankly at the two, momentarily at a loss for words.
You guys are so talented, why bother learning magic? You should become arms dealers instead!
You’d definitely make a fortune!
However, Ivan had to admit that their ideas were indeed good, so he joined in to discuss the details of the sales.
After chatting for a while, Fred, still feeling unsatisfied, suddenly said in a mysterious tone.
"By the way, speaking of Quidditch matches, why don't we set up a betting pool again to make a big profit? This time, I can handle it. I don't have to participate or train, so I have plenty of free time."
Ivan was taken aback at first, then he looked at Fred with a strange expression. No wonder Fred had so readily stepped down when he joined the team; he had this plan in mind!
However, after hearing Fred's proposal, Ivan was somewhat tempted. After all, no one ever has enough Galleons.
Don't think that he made a lot of money from the magical gadgets he invented a few months ago and sold them very well. That was the shop's income, and he couldn't use it freely. He also couldn't keep asking his family for money for his research expenses.
The money he earned from selling the Wolfsbane Potion was his own, but most of the Galleons were spent on advertising. Otherwise, the Daily Prophet wouldn't have reported on him every day.
Moreover, there are werewizard populations not just in the British Isles but all over Europe and even the world, so advertising was a huge expense.
More importantly, moving the shop from Knockturn Alley to Diagon Alley would cost at least twenty thousand Galleons.
This was why Ivan was so concerned about the new magic trick workshop.
There are over a thousand young witches and wizards from the four colleges and seven grades at Hogwarts. Selling these small gadgets alone could make a fortune every year.
"What do you think? Fred and I can each put in a hundred Galleons as capital", George said, much more generous this time compared to last year when they had to save up five Galleons to start their betting pool.
"Sure, I'll put in a hundred Galleons too", Ivan agreed without hesitation.
Most of the hundred Galleons came from the surplus funds when Alyssa bought him books, and the rest were from selling the Wolfsbane Potion.
With two hundred Galleons as capital, George and Fred boasted that they would make a big move, not satisfied with the small-scale operations of last time.
"Unfortunately, we practiced against the Slytherin team last time, so most people will probably bet on us, the Gryffindors, to win this time!" George said, somewhat disappointed, which meant they might not make much money this time.
And they couldn't throw the match and let Gryffindor lose on purpose, or Wood would definitely kill them.
