Chapter 197: The Final Blow
Chapter 197: The Final Blow
The Sorcerer King's corpse on the ground began to tremble as bloodlight infused it. Hermione, seeing the situation turn dire, raised her wand and cast several spells at the rising corpse. Though she managed to dislodge a few parts, she couldn't stop the corpse from slowly climbing to its feet.
Liam, still reeling from the Heavenly Retribution that had temporarily disrupted his magic power flow, drew his Liberator Pistol with his left hand and fired repeatedly at the rising corpse. After emptying a magazine, he managed to break the corpse's left arm, causing it to fall to the ground again due to the imbalance.
As Liam fumbled to reload, the corpse, which had fallen due to the broken arm, rose again. Thick blood oozed from the wound, reattaching the severed limb to the shoulder. When it lifted its face to look at Liam and Hermione, both of them were startled by its appearance.
Unlike the dignified, red-bearded elder who had sat on the throne, this body, now deprived of the Bloodstone's powerful magical protection, was rapidly decaying. Liam could see chunks of rotting flesh falling from its face.
"Hermione cast the Flame spell, and a blazing inferno engulfed the corpse, setting its clothes ablaze, but the flames were swiftly extinguished as they reached its skin, leaving only a small, charred mark, yet unfortunately, this did not halt its relentless advance."
"Petrify", another spell was cast, but this time, the purely controlling spell had no effect. The corpse continued to walk toward them, step by step. Liam emptied another magazine, but the leg bones were stronger than the arm bones. The bullets left deep, bone-exposing wounds, yet the undead kept moving closer.
Liam realized that the Bloodstone-infused Sorcerer King's body was rapidly deteriorating. This suggested that the Bloodstone might need a new host. With this in mind, he decided to take a gamble.
"Move aside, I have a way to deal with it", Liam said to Hermione as she helped him stand. Hermione, however, stubbornly continued casting spells at the undead. Frustrated, Liam knocked her unconscious with a quick chop to the neck and dragged himself toward the living corpse.
As he approached, the corpse grabbed him by the collar with its right arm and lifted him. Liam could smell the putrid odor emanating from its arm.
Enduring the pain in his meridians, he activated the Purple Mist Divine Art to form an inner energy circulation, which alleviated the choking sensation. The corpse then opened its mouth, and with a sound like nails on a chalkboard, it spoke: "You are mine now. What a splendid body, I will make good use of it."
With that, the corpse opened its mouth wide, the decaying skin around its lips tearing completely, its jaw dropping to its neck, and its mouth opening to a 120-degree angle like a snake. Liam could see a mass of thick blood churning in its throat.
The corpse reached out with its left hand to pry open Liam's mouth, clearly intending to transfer the Bloodstone, which had lost all its defenses due to the Heavenly Retribution, leaving only its vulnerable core.
This was the perfect opportunity. Liam swiftly reached into the corpse's mouth and sent a signal to his Mind Sea: "The time for revenge has come!"
Countless soul-state Soul Devouring Worms burst forth from Liam's Mind Sea, surging up his arm and directly into the Bloodstone's core.
“No!” Bloodstone let out a desperate scream, but it was too late to stop what was happening. Each Soul Devourer that collided with its core only managed to wear away a tiny bit of its essence before vanishing into ashes, yet they continued to charge at Bloodstone relentlessly. Liam could even faintly hear the souls of the Soul Devourers that had been completely destroyed, laughing joyfully in their final moments, as if their wishes had finally been fulfilled.
Bloodstone's cries grew weaker and weaker until they finally faded into nothingness. The entire body began to burn from the inside out, the pale blue flames growing stronger and more intense until they consumed the corpse, reducing it to ashes before slowly dying down.
After the flames extinguished, tiny, glowing points of light, like fireflies, rose from the ashes. These points of light circled around a few times before stopping, and one of them flew out, taking the form of a woman. Liam recognized her as the Narrative Soul who had claimed to be the daughter of the Sorcerer King.
“Thank you,” the soul said, performing an ancient gesture of respect. “Thank you for helping my father achieve his final release and for avenging him by destroying his enemies. The others also wanted me to thank you for helping them complete their revenge.”
“As a token of our gratitude, we have prepared some gifts for you.” With that, the soul waved her hand, and two drops of blood flew out from the ashes. “The evil soul within that stone has been completely destroyed, but it left behind this essence, which we can give to you. It will help you strengthen the magical power in your blood and grant you some new abilities.”
Due to the lingering power of Heavenly Retribution still coursing through Liam's body, he easily determined that the energy contained in the two drops of blood was beneficial and harmless. Therefore, he did not hesitate to let the drops enter their bodies.
Sure enough, after the blood entered his body, Liam felt his injuries heal significantly. He could sense the impurities in his blood being purged, and a strange new power began to surge within him.
After watching Liam accept the gift, the souls, now in the form of glowing points of light, circled around him a few times before slowly dissipating. Just before they vanished completely, the soul of the Sorcerer King's daughter spoke to Liam again. “This so-called Divine Realm is sustained by the power of Bloodstone. Now that Bloodstone has been destroyed, it will soon revert to chaos. However, if you channel your magic power into the largest tile at the base of the throne, it will open a portal to the outside world. Next to the largest tile, there is a smaller one, beneath which you will find all of Bloodstone’s possessions.”
With that, the soul of the Sorcerer King's daughter waved goodbye and disappeared. Liam walked to the door of the hall and looked outside. Sure enough, the dimension was beginning to shrink, with large amounts of gray mist surging in from all directions, gradually consuming the existing space.
It was time to evacuate. Fortunately, the injuries Liam had sustained were already healing thanks to the drop of blood he had received. He shook Hermione awake and, supporting her as she was still a bit disoriented, they made their way to the edge of the tile.
Liam first pried open the smaller tile and found a leather pouch inside. Without checking its contents, he slung it around his waist and then channeled his magic into the largest tile.
As he fed his magic power into the tile, a beam of golden light shot down from the position of Sirius in the star map on the ceiling, creating a golden gate in the center of the hall. Liam and Hermione stepped through the gate, which promptly vanished behind them. Soon after, the gray mist surged into the hall, consuming the entire dimension and erasing all traces of its existence.
