Chapter 197: Forest Brooch
Chapter 197: Forest Brooch
The night forest was in chaos.
The sudden appearance and attack of the Blighted Venom Spider, the Mother Tree's actions and death, the collapse of the Banyan Grove and the hill, all within a mere half an hour.
What had transpired here would have a significant impact on the Starlight Forest.
When Lindsey and Red returned to Thorn Valley, the scene before them was equally astonishing.
Massive vines covered the valley, possessing unimaginable strength as they broke through the ground, completely disrupting the original ecosystem.
Accompanied by countless vines entangling, oppressing, and tearing.
The Blighted Venom Spider was mercilessly strangled, or crushed directly on the ground, turning into a pile of wreckage.
As a Phase Six powerful being.
The Mother Tree, summoned by the Fairy Maiden, used this formidable power to escape, which was understandable.
But what truly left one speechless was the other corpses beneath the vines.
Other species inhabiting Thorn Valley, even the Treants directly under the Mother Tree, were unable to escape the crushing vines. Countless corpses were scattered throughout, identifiable only by the sparse moonlight filtering through the vines.
"This is absolute madness."
Red shook her head, observing the scene before her.
"Lindsey, by killing it, aren't we also relieving its suffering?" she asked with a hint of mockery.
Lindsey rubbed his eyes, agreeing, "Maybe that's true..."
With the help of the Vital Essence within his body, his vision and hearing were gradually recovering, but he still felt uncomfortable.
Nevertheless, Lindsey would not mistake the attributes of the item in his hand.
This was the material he had just obtained from the Mother Tree's corpse.
[Odd Artifact/Material: Mindwood Core]
[Integrating it into the body stabilizes the soul and self-awareness, greatly enhances Constitution, and significantly improves self-healing abilities. It can also be used as a material to craft other items.]
[A rare mutated product, extremely valuable.]
["My instinct is to survive, and my will is to resist!"]
[The Mindwood Core, formed within the Mother Tree's body, is influenced by both the Essence of Madness and Reason, thus granting it a special ability.]
Another item with a unique description.
The synthesis formula is also befitting of its noble status, but there's no chance of synthesizing it right now.
[1 Mindwood Core + 1 Balanced Orb + 1 Codex + 1 Advanced Gemstone = Reason Magic Tome]
[1 Mindwood Core + 1 Dragon Blood + 1 Jade Solvent/Magma Potion = Soulbinding Elixir/Crazed Potion]
Lindsey nodded slightly, the information on the attribute panel wouldn't deceive him.
The story of the Mother Tree, he had only heard rumors, but in the unknown depths, this Phase Six being had undoubtedly endured much hardship and torment.
All under the coercion and control of the Dragon Beast.
In the end, it could only reveal its near-madness.
Lindsey recalled the scene when he killed the Mother Tree, and the sapling that grew from its corpse:
"Was it truly helpless, accepting its fate..."
As he pondered, Lindsey walked into Thorn Valley.
The thoughts in his mind wouldn't hinder his collection of loot, and the entire valley's rewards were still waiting for him!
"Vines... I need these to craft a Thorn Ring!"
"A unique plant seed that can cultivate thorns causing intense pain? A Thorn Headband, it can't be used to craft items, but when worn on the head, it can summon thorns when attacked?"
"This one, this can't be harvested? It was killed by the Mother Tree..."
Lindsey worked enthusiastically under the night sky.
In contrast, Red was extremely bored.
She didn't have the ability to collect materials, so she could only watch helplessly, soon growing impatient.
"Lindsey, how long will you keep picking up things one by one?"
Lindsey replied with a mix of helplessness and joy,
"What else can I do? I can't just leave them here."
"Tsk," Red turned her head, looking at the distant collapsed hill, and suddenly had an idea, "Then you keep busy here, and I'll go check out its lair."
Lindsey opened the map and took a glance.
In the Starlight Forest, the map is marked with numerous red dots, symbolizing hostility. However, after tonight's battle, most of them are now frantically scattering in panic.
If one were to speak of threats to Red...
Lindsey's gaze rested upon the girl before him.
Starlight Forest couldn't find a second Phase Six Beast.
Lindsey nodded slightly.
"Then go ahead."
Red turned to leave, but then remembered the weapon that was damaged during the earlier fight with the Tree Mother.
"My Meteor Spear broke during the battle, can I borrow your steel spear again?"
Lindsey directly tossed a steel spear towards Red.
"Take it."
Red turned and left without another word.
"See you later."
"..."
After Red's departure, Lindsey looked up at the sky and then down at the ground.
The battle was over, and now it was time to collect the spoils. There was no issue with that, but he felt something was missing.
"Hmm... Let's look at the crafting formulas first."
Lindsey couldn't think of any problems, so he decided to check his own items first.
First, he found the Thornwood Bracelet.
He easily located several Treants, and the subsequent crafting of the Thorn Ring was now possible.
[Thornwood Bracelet]
[A wooden bracelet engraved with thorny patterns. When equipped, it increases Constitution and enhances skin defense; Essence can be used to create tough thorny vines. It can also be used as a material to craft other items.]
[Achievement Item, of moderate value.]
"Then there's this one."
Holding the Thorn Ring in his hand, Lindsey felt a surge of excitement.
He took out the Treant Crown and Faery Footbrace from his bag one by one, and the crafting formula naturally appeared.
[1 Treant Crown + 1 Faery Footbrace + 1 Thorn Ring = Forest Brooch]
"It's been almost a year since we arrived at the Hidden Frontier."
"Come out now!"
Lindsey's actions were filled with excitement, but the crafting process remained silent as always.
A considerable amount of Essence was paid as the crafting cost.
A delicate brooch appeared silently in his hand.
The exquisite black walnut carving depicted a majestic oak tree, its branches gracefully spreading out. Amidst the branches, lifelike petals adorned the tree, while a circle of intertwining thorns surrounded the brooch, adding a protective edge.
Amidst its rustic charm, one could sense its exceptional quality.
[Forest Brooch]
[Comprehensive attribute boost, enhances Nature Affinity, Poison Resistance, and Skin Defense. Essence can be used to create vines, flowers, and trees. It can also be used as a material to craft other items.]
[A versatile and exceedingly rare brooch, any buyer would love such an item!]
"Can this be crafted further?"
Staring at the attributes of the Forest Brooch.
Lindsey was both surprised and delighted, and a sense of urgency welled up within him.
He immediately placed the Forest Brooch on the crafting table.
[1 Forest Brooch + 1 Tide Conch + 1 Sky Compass = Ecosystem Radar]
Boom! Boom!
Lindsey jumped in place and stomped his feet, but he couldn't suppress the desire within.
"What's the Tide Conch? And how do I get the Sky Compass?"
"It can't be as difficult to obtain as the Forest Brooch!"
After his little celebration, Lindsey paced anxiously, twirling the Forest Brooch in his hand.
All other effects were as described, and all attributes increased by five points.
"The Miniature Spider Nest's consumption this time was definitely not a loss, but a huge gain... Oh right, I haven't read the Hunting Journal yet!"
With so many gains tonight, Lindsey had momentarily forgotten, and now he quickly opened the journal to check.
[Kill Achievement: 10/10]
[Leader Kill Achievement: 1/1]
Although the Tree and Treants had vastly different strengths, they ultimately belonged to the same biological system.
Two achievement rewards could be claimed!
