Chapter 196: Torment from Conna
Chapter 196: Torment from Conna
"I say, if you want to fish, why not go to the Black Lake instead of bothering Sniffle here?" Conna remarked in the Common Room, watching Kyle play with Sniffle using a twig and a red stone.
"Can't you just give it that broken stone?" Conna asked irritably.
"This isn't just any stone, it's the Philosopher's Stone!" Kyle corrected her choice of words.
"Yeah, a stone created by magic..." Conna rolled her eyes, "I saw you drop and break it last night. It's just an ordinary pebble. Is this how you usually trick Sniffle?"
"Don't say it like that." Kyle retorted, "It's just a form of entertainment. Look how happy it is playing."
Conna raised an eyebrow, glancing at Sniffle, who was hopping around on its short legs. She didn't understand how Kyle could tell it was enjoying itself.
It was so agitated that it almost started speaking human language!
Conna sighed, took out a Galleon, and waved it in front of the little creature, trying to attract its attention.
Sniffle, who usually couldn't resist the sight of a Galleon, didn't even glance at her. It kept staring intently at the red stone in Kyle's hand.
Unwilling to give up, Conna took out a second Galleon, but it was to no avail.
"Save your breath, my stone is much brighter than a Galleon," Kyle said, grabbing Sniffle by the back of its neck and tossing it back into the box. "By the way, you've given it fifteen Galleons in the past few days... I must remind you, Sniffle really can't be used as a wallet."
"Mind your own business!" Conna blushed with anger. "And those Galleons are for Sniffle. You can't take them secretly!"
"Cough... I'm not that kind of person." Kyle's face stiffened, then he continued, "But speaking of which, shouldn't you be going to Professor Snape for extra lessons instead of staying in the Common Room?"
"I passed Professor Snape's test yesterday and successfully brewed the Elixir of Life and Death... So, the extra lessons are over."
"So, you're free now?" Kyle took out a chessboard and placed it on the table, "Shall we play a game of Wizard's Chess?"
"Alright..." Conna nodded.
She didn't have many friends at Hogwarts, and both Autumn and her roommate had gone home.
Since they had free time, playing chess to pass the time wasn't a bad idea.
"But let's get one thing straight, I'm just an average chess player. You can't blame me if I..." Conna paused, looking down at the chessboard, "Wait, is this Wizard's Chess?"
As Conna was about to set up the pieces, she suddenly froze, looking down at the board.
Instead of the familiar chess pieces, she saw various magical creatures.
In the front row were Sniffles, followed by Trolls, Griffins, Bowtruckles, Three-Headed Dogs, and Dragons.
"It's like this," Kyle explained, "I finished my homework and had some free time, so I made a small modification for them. I just altered their appearance slightly. It wasn't difficult."
Conna looked up at Kyle with a piercing gaze.
Finished her homework and had free time... Listen, is this even human language? She had been attending extra lessons for a full ten days, and there was even homework for that!
Didn't Kyle's conscience hurt when he said this in front of her?
"What are you looking at... It's your turn, black chess." Kyle urged.
Conna glared at him angrily before turning her attention back to the chessboard.
At that moment, the "magical creatures" had taken their respective positions, and Conna quickly guessed what each of them represented.
