Chapter 195: We're Back?
Chapter 195: We're Back?
Chapter 195: We're Back?
Hogwarts, 1994.
Gryffindor Common Room, Harry's dormitory.
It had been two hours since he saved Sirius Black and returned to the castle. It was well past midnight, but Harry lay awake in bed, unable to sleep.
The soft snoring of Neville echoed in his ears. He turned his head to look at Ron, who was tossing and turning in the bed next to him.
Ron was clearly not sleeping either. The rat Scabbers, whom he had raised with deep affection, turned out to be a short, plump wizard and a despicable traitor. This revelation made it impossible for him to find any rest.
"Ron."
Harry whispered.
Ron turned over again, facing Harry, and mumbled.
"I don't think we'll be getting any sleep tonight."
"Then let's talk. Keep it down, though, so we don't wake up Seamus and the others."
Harry said quietly.
Then, both fell into a silence.
A lot had happened today, but when it came to actually talking, they didn't know where to start.
After a long while, Harry spoke softly.
"When I used the Patronus Charm, I heard my mother speaking to me."
Ron didn't seem particularly surprised.
"Didn't you hear her voice when those Dementors appeared on the Quidditch Pitch?"
Harry shook his head.
"It's different. Then, I heard her voice as an observer. This time, it felt like she was right beside me, talking to me."
"What did she say?"
Harry's eyes showed a sad expression.
"She said, 'Live well.'"
Ron chose his words carefully.
"I understand how much you miss your family, Harry, but no matter how you heard your mother's voice, it was your own mind wishing to hear it."
"I know what you mean", Harry said, lying on his back and staring at the ceiling of the dormitory. "But the voice really did sound like it was right in my ear."
Ron didn't pay much attention to what Harry said. He understood Harry's feelings but didn't believe he had actually heard his mother.
"I'm more curious about where Professor Forrest and Snape went. Why did they suddenly disappear?"
Harry, brought back to reality by Ron's question, shook his head in confusion.
"I don't know, but I'm sure Professor Forrest will be fine. The one who might be in trouble is Snape."
Ron understood what Harry meant. He covered half his face with the blanket, trying to suppress a laugh.
"Let's hope Snape is okay."
At the edge of the Forbidden Forest.
Three hours ago, where Sherlock and Snape had disappeared.
The quiet, empty meadow seemed to have been paused, and suddenly, two figures appeared!
Sherlock was breathing heavily, lying weakly on the grass. He looked up at the starry sky, the towering castle in the darkness, and the dense Forbidden Forest, feeling both exhausted and incredibly relieved.
They were back!
From Madame Selwyn's words, he had figured out the purpose of the stone tablet.
It could erase its influence and existence using magical substances and one's own magic power.
The goblin-made Time-Turner that had brought Sherlock and Snape to 1977 did not belong to this time. Its direct impact was on Sherlock and Snape, who had traveled through time with it. By erasing it, the effects it had on this time would be reversed, returning Sherlock and Snape to their original point.
The only concern was whether the Time-Turner had enough energy to reverse the time. Now, it seemed Amy's feeling was right, and Sherlock had made the right bet. Since the Time-Turner could self-repair and continue to travel through time, it must have had sufficient power.
"W-Where are we?"
A trembling voice came from beside him.
Sherlock recognized it as Snape's. He was too relaxed to notice the fear and anxiety in the voice.
"Have you forgotten after just three months? This is Hogwarts, where we left from."
"We're... back?"
"Of course", Sherlock said with pleasure. "I just wonder if it's still the night we left."
Snape walked up to Sherlock, looking lost and disoriented.
He didn't share Sherlock's joy, as if he had lost something of great importance.
"Why didn't you tell me in advance!"
He suddenly growled, his teeth clenched.
Sherlock stared at Snape's expression, suddenly realizing something terrible.
"You didn't manage to give the Magic Notes to Lily?"
"I did", Snape said, clenching his fists, his frustration and disappointment evident. "But I was just about to—"
Sherlock looked at him suspiciously.
"If you've already given it to her, why are you still upset?"
Snape couldn't bring himself to say it because what he planned to do would violate his agreement with Sherlock.
But he was still incredibly frustrated. If he had just told Lily everything about the future, she would have forgiven him, but at the last moment, he was brought back!
"You're not thinking of breaking the agreement, only to be stopped by me at the last second, are you!"
Sherlock easily deduced why Snape was acting this way. Nothing else would have left him so distraught.
Snape, angry and embarrassed, found Sherlock's face increasingly unbearable to look at.
In the end, he couldn't hold back and lunged at Sherlock, grappling with him.
"It was just a little more! I was about to tell Lily everything!"
Sherlock fought back, using his height and reach to his advantage. He pushed Snape's face up, making it impossible for Snape's hands to reach him.
"You're the one who wanted to break the agreement, and now you're complaining! What did we agree on? If we couldn't find a way in two years, we'd try to change history. But you couldn't even last three months before spilling everything to Lily!"
"Don't give me that! You just wanted to use the agreement to keep me in line! You never intended to help me save Lily!"
"Damn it! You ungrateful bastard! If I didn't want to help you, why would I give you your notes? I risked my life in the Ministry of Magic and came up with plans to help you, and this is what I get!"
Under normal circumstances, Snape would have been no match for Sherlock.
But Sherlock had been exhausted from his struggle with the Death Eaters all night, and he could barely stand, let alone overpower Snape.
Moreover, Snape was a reclusive type, and without using their wands, neither of them could inflict any significant harm on the other.
Their main form of attack was choking each other while trading insults.
They rolled around on the grass, eventually ending up near Hagrid's hut.
Fluffy, the three-headed dog tied to the front door, heard the commotion and barked at them from a distance.
Hagrid, who had been up all night after successfully saving Buckbeak, was roused by Fluffy's barking.
He grabbed his little red umbrella and, in his pajamas, stepped out of the hut. In the moonlight, he saw Sherlock and Snape wrestling like children, choking each other.
"Who are you! How did you get into Hogwarts!"
Hagrid frowned, pointing his wand at them and shouting.
Hearing the voice, Sherlock and Snape stopped fighting.
After their scuffle, both were covered in grass but had no visible injuries.
"It's me, Hagrid, don't worry", Sherlock panted, addressing Hagrid.
But Hagrid remained wary, still holding the little red umbrella.
"Who are you? Your voice sounds familiar."
Snape stood up, and Sherlock, using Snape's robe for support, got to his feet.
"Take out the potion to remove the masks."
Snape, scowling, pulled two vials from his pocket, handed one to Sherlock, and then silently walked toward the castle.
"Stop!" Hagrid started to go after Snape but was stopped by Sherlock.
"It's us, Sherlock and Snape."
He poured the potion on his face, wiped his robe, and revealed his true appearance.
Hagrid's eyes widened like saucers as he looked at him.
"Sherlock!"
Then he turned to look at Snape's dejected and disheveled back.
"That's Snape! Why are you disguised like this? And you were fighting just now?"
Sherlock used his wand to restore his hair to its original state.
"It's a long story, but nothing serious", he said vaguely, then bid Hagrid farewell. "I'll head back. You should get some rest."
Hagrid, still shocked, didn't understand why Sherlock and Snape would disguise themselves and fight like Muggles on the grass in the middle of the night, but he didn't press further. He shook his head.
"I won't be able to sleep tonight. I'll use this time to clean the graves of Miss Silke's family in the Forbidden Forest. She usually comes to clean them during the day."
Sherlock, not paying much attention, nodded as he walked away.
"Oh, right. Last year, I helped her find you. Her family is buried in the Forbidden Forest. One of them is named John Watson, I think."
As he said this, Sherlock froze.
Hagrid, who had just picked up his tools and was leading Fluffy, was puzzled by Sherlock's sudden stillness.
"What's wrong with you?"
Sherlock didn't answer, just mindlessly repeating a few names.
"Amy Butler, Eddie Butler, Vera Silke, Amy Butler"
His eyes gradually brightened.
"Amy, Vera!"
