Chapter 195: Tenfold
Chapter 195: Tenfold
The fruit in his hand, originally a bunch of grapes, began to transform. The grapes now bore spiral patterns, and their color deepened from a vibrant purple to a somber black.
"A Devil Fruit?"
Sag stared at the fruit, bewildered and uncomprehending. He had never laid eyes on a Devil Fruit before. He had heard of people with special abilities, but this was something else entirely.
Sag had ventured out to sea at a young age, facing adversity and loss early in life. At fourteen, his adoptive father passed away, and within two years, he had squandered his inheritance. By sixteen, he was out on the open sea, trying his hand at various trades.
Despite his diverse experiences, he had never come across a Devil Fruit. And that was not surprising, as in the East Blue, Devil Fruits were nothing more than legends.
Sag believed that with his luck, finding a Devil Fruit was next to impossible. After all, he had participated in countless robberies, and not once had they come across such a fruit.
Devil Fruits were simply not in the cards for him. If he had found one, he wouldn't have agreed to collaborate with Teach. The allure of experiencing the powers unique to the sea was too great to resist.
But now...
"Has it appeared before me?" Sag grinned, baring his teeth. "Did it choose me?"
He attributed his lack of fortune to fate, believing that while ordinary people might stumble upon such fruits, they were denied to him. However, there was another possibility—that a Devil Fruit had actively chosen him.
Sag knew more about Devil Fruits than the average sailor. He understood that those who consumed the fruits were not so much gambling with their abilities as they were being chosen by the 'devil' itself, becoming its vessel.
In the grand scheme of things, the devil selected its hosts. Sag, with his unfortunate luck, never expected to be chosen, yet here he was, holding the transformed fruit in his hand.
It had selected him.
"Then I shall devour you!"
Sag wasn't particular about the powers he would gain. To him, true strength came from his Haki and his mastery of hand-to-hand combat. Nonetheless, since he couldn't swim, he figured consuming the fruit was worth a try.
"Let's see what kind of devil has chosen me!"
Sag held the bunch of grape-like Devil Fruit high and opened his mouth wide, swallowing the entire bunch in one go. The grapes slid down his throat and settled in his abdomen.
Instantly, his expression soured, and he furrowed his brows, reaching for a bottle of alcohol to down its contents. Only after finishing the bottle did he hurl it away.
"I swallowed it whole, and it still tastes awful!"
Sag grabbed another fruit and continued eating, trying to mask the unpleasant taste with alcohol. But it wasn't just about taste; it was a feeling that permeated his being, reaching deep into his soul.
Thump-thump.
As Sag consumed a few more fruits, he became aware of a strange sensation—his heart was beating in an odd rhythm. It was a sound that only he could hear, and for a moment, he paused, his eyes narrowing in confusion. But soon, he relaxed.
"Oh?"
Sag's voice carried a hint of realization. "So it's you, Bonney Wally."
Upon consuming a Devil Fruit, the eater instantly becomes aware of the power they have gained. In the brief moment of his heart's strange palpitations, Sag understood his newfound ability.
However, that realization also brought with it a memory—a recollection of the identity of the man he had frozen and subsequently killed.
Footsteps echoed in the passage outside the door.
"A hole! There's a hole!"
"Lightning Lord, please! This hole must not be discovered!"
"We need to seal off this entire section and redirect the passage. We can't risk anyone finding out about this!"
Urgent voices rang out from beyond the door, accompanied by the sound of something being cut.
As the group gradually backed away, they finally noticed Sag.
"Huh? Is the door to the food warehouse open?"
A head poked in through the doorway and spotted Sag indulging in his feast.
"There's someone there! A person!"
The startled intruder exclaimed, prompting a flurry of footsteps as a group of odd individuals appeared at the door.
They were a peculiar bunch, clad in underwear with stockings on their hairy legs, and either bare-chested or wearing women's lingerie on their upper bodies.
"Yuck!"
Sag, equally repulsed and disgusted, scowled at them. "Are all the guards in Impel Down perverts?"
"A newcomer?"
One of the perverts, dressed only in his underwear, stepped forward. "Hey, newbie! What are you doing here? You ate all our food!"
His eyes immediately fell on the open refrigerator, now empty.
"You, how dare you devour our hard-earned supplies!"
Enraged, the man strode towards Sag, reaching out to grab him.
"Stop!"
Just then, a voice rang out from behind the door, causing the man to pause and turn.
There stood a man with hair resembling a half-yellow, half-white club from a deck of cards. He held a glass of red wine, his coat a matching yellow and white, and on his face, a pair of orange and blue glasses that fixed their gaze on Sag.
"Why are you here, Natural Disaster?"
"Well, I broke out of jail, of course," Sag replied nonchalantly, continuing to eat.
"A jailbreak? Bold indeed. But you've consumed our food; surely you must offer some form of compensation?" The man said slowly.
"Compensation?"
Sag paused mid-chew, then swallowed a mouthful of apple before responding, "How about the fact that I'm a pirate? Will that do?"
"Indeed."
Lightning stood still, then continued, "Regardless of how you ended up here, now that you're with us, just relax and stay put. After all, this is..."
"...The New Human Paradise, woo-hoo!"
A hoarse voice suddenly rang out from the doorway, and the odd group of perverts quickly formed two lines, their eyes filled with admiration as they looked towards the entrance.
There stood a man over four meters tall—a bizarre figure.
His face was enormous, with strangely thick eye makeup and purple lipstick. His hair was a pale violet, and his entire being exuded an air of bulkiness. But what was even more peculiar was his choice of attire: a pair of mesh stockings and a skintight, plunging bodysuit, despite being undeniably male.
"Norton Sag, I know who you are, boy!"
Ivankov spread his arms out, forming an 'X' shape. "Welcome to our New Human Paradise. Now that you're here, don't even think about leaving. Join us and experience the accomplishments and pleasures that the New Humans bring! Yee-haw!"
"Looks like they're not guards after all,"
Sag mumbled through a mouthful of food, his eyebrows furrowed as he eyed them with distaste. "Just a bunch of perverts. Or are they transvestites? You know I hate transvestites, right?"
"How dare you call us transvestites! You understand the feelings of the New Humans, boy. If you were to become a woman, you'd undoubtedly be a beauty. Let me teach you a lesson!"
Ivankov extended a hand, sharp spikes protruding from his fingers.
Sag narrowed his eyes, his mouth twisting, "Tenfold..."
"Core Shotgun!"
Pew!
The exposed apple core, now covered in a layer of pitch darkness, shot out of Sag's mouth at incredible speed, hurtling towards the four-meter-tall pervert.
