Chapter 194: Hiberrian's Determination to Keep an Eye on Lanchi
Chapter 194: Hiberrian's Determination to Keep an Eye on Lanchi
The raindrops pelted the windows like tiny hammers, casting the Victorian-style window frames inside the shop into a murky gloom. Each time a droplet hit the glass, it left a damp stain, further obscuring the view outside. Despite the dreary weather, the shop remained as tranquil and cozy as ever.
The long, crisp chiming of a bell signaled the entrance of a polite and elegant young man through the heavy wooden door, carrying with him a hint of chill and moisture that instantly mingled with the warm air inside. He was slightly damp from the rain, his boots splashed with water, but what drew the most attention was the small black cat he cradled in his left arm, its eyes wide and fur slightly ruffled.
The little cat seemed dazed and confused, as if its brain had temporarily frozen. However, upon entering the familiar surroundings of the shop, its small, pointed ears twitched instinctively, as if listening intently to the sounds around it.
The young man, Lanchi, stepped cautiously, his dripping umbrella leaving a trail of water droplets that fell to the floor. From behind the counter, a cheerful shop assistant soon appeared, her apron neat and tidy, her expression one of eager anticipation as her eyes fixed on the little cat as if she had been waiting for it for a long time.
"Mr. Cat, where have you been? The kitchen is swamped!" she exclaimed.
The shop assistant quickly approached Lanchi, addressing the little cat.
"Meow, sorry meow," the cat boss finally came to his senses and scrambled to the ground, making his way towards the kitchen.
He turned back and gave Lanchi a complicated look.
This guy looks like the epitome of kindness and virtue, possessing all the Confucian virtues of benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trust. An exceptional young man, indeed.
But something about him just didn't sit right with the cat.
He's the first person I've ever seen who can play matchmaker so enthusiastically! Something's not right here.
I'll have to keep an eye on him.
Perhaps this nascent sun doesn't deserve love just yet.
The shop assistant breathed a sigh of relief as she watched Mr. Cat return to the kitchen. "By the way, Miss Tata asked me to tell you to go to the warehouse on the second floor to find her if you came by," she said, turning to Lanchi.
"Thank you," Lanchi replied, and made his way towards the familiar second floor.
He knew exactly what this meant.
With the discovery of the Resurrection Church insider within the academic visiting team from the Royal Academy of Aiolon, tomorrow's arrival of Dean Lorren was sure to be full of surprises.
When he went on his date with Knight Juliana, he was sure they would have plenty to talk about.
If Lanchi worked a little harder these next few days, it wasn't impossible that Juliana would take the initiative to come all the way from the Kingdom of Aiolon to seek a date with Lorren.
The staircase was made of dark wood, each step polished by years of use, and on rainy days, a slightly worn carpet was laid down to prevent slips. As Lanchi ascended to the second floor, a long corridor stretched out before him.
Vintage frames hung on the walls, illuminated by a dim yellow light that lent the corridor an air of mystery. At the end of the corridor was a row of doors, each with its unique color and number, reminiscent of an old-fashioned inn.
Lanchi walked slowly, searching for something.
His gaze lingered on each door for a moment before finally stopping in front of one labeled "Warehouse."
"Tata, Hiberrian, are you in there?" Lanchi knocked lightly on the door.
"Come in," came the familiar voice of Talia.
Recognizing Lanchi's presence, she had temporarily lifted the barrier.
Lanchi placed his hand on the doorknob and pushed it down slightly, and the previously impenetrable warehouse door swung open. A musty, damp air wafted out, and Lanchi stepped inside.
Scanning the room, he saw Hiberrian and Talia standing guard over a man bound to a chair—undoubtedly the criminal suspect.
This, however, was not important. What was important was that, from the looks on their faces—
Hiberrian seemed to be in good spirits and cheerfully unaffected. Talia, too, appeared more peaceful than he had imagined, and did not seem displeased with Hiberrian's presence.
The two of them got along much better than Lanchi had expected, and he even felt a strange sense of camaraderie between them.
"Lanchi, you're here," Hiberrian said with a smile as she walked up to him.
"Mhm, unfortunately, I lost today's match against Adams," Lanchi replied, nodding slightly in embarrassment.
Hiberrian's expression immediately froze.
If Lanchi had won, she would have been fine with it.
But the fact that he lost so easily…
The seriousness of the situation was probably beyond what she had imagined.
She felt like skipping school for a while.
At the very least, she didn't want to face Dean Lorren when he returned tomorrow morning...
Talia looked at Hiberrian's face and then at Lanchi, refraining from commenting.
"Thank you for your trouble, Tata," Lanchi said to Talia, turning to her with gratitude.
He hadn't expected Talia to be so accommodating this time.
It seemed that with age, she had developed a bit of humanity.
"...”
Talia stared at Lanchi, silent.
"Now that the insider from the Aiolon Royal Academy visiting team has been caught, Hiberrian can go back today," Lanchi said to Talia and Hiberrian, looking at the unconscious Phoenix bound to the chair.
Lanchi was worried that the longer they stayed, the more likely one of them would feel wronged and the other would get angry.
However, Hiberrian looked up, her eyes hesitant as she said, "Lanchi, I..."
She seemed a little tongue-tied and unsure how to bring up her request.
If possible, she wanted to stay with Tata for a few more days.
But that thought was too embarrassing, and she couldn't find a good excuse.
Even if Miss Tata agreed to teach her magic, she didn't have to live at Miss Tata's house.
"Let her stay here for a few more days, just in case there are any other incidents," Talia said flatly,
"After all, according to the contract, she should stay with me for a full two weeks."
She emphasized this in a matter-of-factly manner, sticking to the terms of their agreement.
"......!"
Hiberrian looked at her in surprise and touched by her consideration.
If Miss Tata had been adhering to the contract before, now she was truly looking out for her.
"What do you think, Hiberrian?" Lanchi asked, naturally having no objections.
If Talia could get along well with Hiberrian, it would be the best outcome for his future plans to expand the 【Giant Love Company】.
Come to think of it, Talia had always been like this. She didn't like giving the other party an advantage in a deal, and if she agreed to provide protection for two weeks, she would fulfill that promise.
"If Miss Tata doesn't mind my presence, I'd like to stay here a little longer," Hiberrian said, looking at Talia with some embarrassment.
"But I will be going to school from now on."
Hiberrian added, explaining that she would resume her studies and her work with the student council.
She didn't dare let Lanchi out of her sight anymore, lest her two-week absence cause unforeseen changes in Eckolite Academy.
"In that case, I'll pick you up and drop you off at school every day," Talia nodded and agreed.
"Then I'll leave it to you," Lanchi said, relieved.
With Talia's serious protection, Hiberrian's safety was virtually guaranteed.
However, the way they were talking felt a little like a mother sending her child off to primary school to Lanchi.
It was too strange. Was this part of Talia's grand plan to make the Duke's family her own?
