Chapter 194: Budew's Cloak
Chapter 194: Budew's Cloak
The morning sun bathed the ranch in a warm glow, illuminating several Angry Birds with blue feathers perched leisurely on the rooftop. Suddenly, a group of Angry Birds with yellow feathers flew in from a distance.
The blue-feathered Angry Birds bristled, squawking and flapping their wings as they confronted the intruders. A brief but intense skirmish ensued as the two groups jockeyed for territory. The yellow-feathered interlopers soon found themselves outmatched and retreated in disarray, their feathers ruffled and pride bruised.
Victorious, the blue-feathered Angry Birds proudly reclaimed their perch on the roof, asserting their dominance over the territory.
Naoki was roused from his slumber by the incessant squawking of the Angry Birds. With a resigned sigh, he hauled himself out of bed and rubbed his temples wearily.
"Ugh, those Angry Birds are so annoying!" he grumbled. "They make a ruckus every morning and evening, steal the grains I planted, and scare the smaller Combees so much that they dare not leave their hives."
Up until now, he had tolerated their antics, respecting the fact that Pokemon were intelligent beings. But this situation could no longer be ignored.
And so, early in the morning, Naoki grabbed a stick and hopped onto his Aerodactyl, ready to evict the feathered squatters. As he took to the skies, he munched on some leftover translated sunflower seeds from yesterday, and just in time too, for he overheard the blue-feathered Angry Birds declaring, "This territory is ours!"
"Not for long," Naoki muttered under his breath. With a sharp whistle, he commanded, "Aerodactyl, scare them off! This territory is mine!"
"Roar!"
The Aerodactyl obliged with a thunderous roar that sent the Angry Birds scattering in all directions, their squawks of surprise filling the air as they fled, leaving only a trail of blue feathers in their wake.
Naoki breathed a sigh of relief as he watched the Angry Birds retreat into the distance. He discarded the stick and descended from the roof, making his way back downstairs.
The two helpful Gastly had already risen for the day. The older brother Gastly tidied up Naoki's room while the younger sister Gastly began preparing breakfast in the kitchen.
"How thoughtful of them," Naoki thought with a smile.
Taking advantage of the moment, Naoki decided to indulge in a rare moment of laziness. Breakfast wasn't quite ready yet, so he grabbed his Budew and called out to his Machoke, who was eager to strengthen its body. Together, they set out for a brisk morning run around the ranch.
Meanwhile, the Aerodactyl strapped on a small bag and took off to deliver fresh sheep milk to Mrs. Dantes and Eiro.
Golurk yawned and stretched, lazily lying on the grass as it watched Naoki and his Pokemon companions dash past, lap after lap.
As they ran, a brilliant white light suddenly enveloped the tiny Budew.
"Huh?!" Naoki exclaimed, bringing their morning jog to an abrupt halt.
Budew, too, was taken aback by the sudden transformation, and it paused to sense the changes occurring within its body.
Naoki, however, was far from surprised. In fact, he had a feeling that this moment had been building up for some time.
"Evolve, Budew," he urged silently, his heart racing with excitement.
The white light intensified, engulfing Budew's small frame. Within the radiant glow, its form began to shift and transform. It grew taller and larger, its fluffy fur becoming even more luxuriant. Its size increased significantly, from a mere half-meter to almost a full meter in height.
When the light finally faded, the now-grand Roselia let out a joyous cry and leaped into Naoki's arms.
Naoki caught it deftly, his face breaking into a wide grin as he nuzzled his face affectionately against Roselia's fluffy cheeks.
"Aw, you've become even cuter!" he exclaimed, his heart melting.
"Roselia~" the Pokemon cooed, its voice filled with affection.
Nearby, Machoke stood by, its eyes reflecting its simple-minded happiness for its companion's evolution.
Not too far away, Golurk tilted its head, its gaze shifting from the joyful scene before it. "Hmm, I hadn't noticed before, but Naoki seems to be letting loose more and more these days," it thought to itself.
Watching Naoki bury his face in Roselia's fluffy stomach, Golurk couldn't help but feel a twinge of envy. It lowered its head and glanced at its own stomach, wishing for a similar moment of comfort.
As the morning run came to an end, the Aerodactyl returned from its delivery trip to Shizen Town.
The younger sister Gastly gently set the breakfast on the table, her eyes sparkling with warmth.
Naoki took his seat at the table, surrounded by his beloved Pokemon companions, a look of pure joy on his face. "Let's eat!" he declared.
"Agas!"
"Garcho!"
"Roselia~"
"…."
After breakfast, Naoki decided to take the younger sister Gastly with him to milk the Riding Goat and Big Milker, ensuring they were well fed and cared for.
Naoki looked down and noticed that the cloak was indeed too small for Baboo Sandshrew after its evolution. Understanding the situation, he said, "Don't worry, I'll get you a new one when we go into town later."
But Baboo Sandshrew still looked glum.
That red cloak held a special significance for it.
It bowed its head, gazing at the cloak in its paws, and recalled the memory of Naoki sitting by the door, diligently scrubbing the cloak clean after it had gotten dirty.
Baboo Sandshrew was on the verge of tears, wishing it hadn't evolved and caused this problem.
Seeing this, Naoki couldn't help but feel a mix of amusement and sympathy.
He patted Baboo Sandshrew's head gently and said, "But this one is the same, right? I'll take you to town later to get a new one tailored, and you can keep this one as a memento."
Baboo Sandshrew's mood improved slightly at these words.
Hearing that they would be going into town, it obediently sat on the corridor under the eaves, listening to the wind chimes above and watching Naoki with the two helpful Gastly as they milked and fed the Riding Goat.
"These grass balls in this basket are the Riding Goat's usual food. Just pour them into the trough, and it will eat by itself."
Naoki demonstrated this to the Gastly siblings, who nodded to indicate their understanding.
Naoki smiled and then led them over to the three Riding Goats that had lost all their PP due to the World Tree's cultivation.
"Come, say hello to them. These are our new partners, the Gastly siblings. The one on the left is the older brother, and the one on the right is the sister."
At his words, the three Riding Goats turned and looked at the Gastly pair.
They were well-behaved and lazily bleated a "Meeeh" in greeting.
Naoki ruffled their fur affectionately and, seeing that the grass balls were ready, the Riding Goats got up and made their way to the trough, eagerly devouring the grass balls to replenish their Grass Energy.
Once they had eaten their fill, the Riding Goats slowly ambled over to the fields and began tending to the crops and fruit trees, using their Grass Terrain to help nurture the plants.
Naoki intended to continue introducing the Gastly siblings to the Mole and Salazzle that lived underground.
However, before he could head down to the cave, a Pterosaur suddenly flew in from the sky.
Naoki was surprised.
Could it be that Bearcub and Mew had sent another postcard, and this time they had splurged by sending a pseudo-legendary Pokemon to deliver it?
He paused to watch the Pterosaur land in the ranch.
But then, something struck him as odd.
The Pterosaur looked strangely familiar!
It was one of the Pterosaurs from Dragon Island that had tried to stop him from taking the other one home!
The actions of the resident Pterosaur confirmed his suspicion.
Upon seeing the wild Pterosaur land, the Pterosaur that had been sunbathing on the grass sprang to its feet.
"Rawr?!"
The wild Pterosaur replied cheerfully, "Rawr... Rawr~"
Naoki had run out of translation nuts, so he couldn't understand what they were saying.
After hearing the wild Pterosaur's words, the resident Pterosaur turned its gaze toward the lake where Miniryu and Hakuryu resided.
Naoki's curiosity was piqued, and he stepped forward to ask, "Is it here to take Miniryu and Hakuryu back to the island?"
"Rawr!"
The Pterosaur nodded vigorously, its eyes sparkling with excitement. Its attitude toward the wild Pterosaur immediately softened.
It seemed delighted and even affectionately led the wild Pterosaur toward the lake with its chubby claws.
It was as if it couldn't wait to send the group of Hakuryu and Miniryu away.
Naoki: "..."
Buddy, your intentions are written all over your face!
