Chapter 193: John Likes Amy, and Amy Likes John
Chapter 193: John Likes Amy, and Amy Likes John
But at that moment, he had no time to dwell on it and instead asked softly,
"Amy, do you think I will have good luck from now on?"
Amy's voice was barely audible, but just loud enough to be heard.
"Amy feels very bad, but John will be fine."
Hearing her words, Sherlock blinked and smiled silently.
"Your feelings have always been right, Amy."
Then he turned his gaze to Bella.
"Let them go first. I'll stay behind with this stone tablet."
"You're crazy!" Eddie shouted in disbelief. "Why won't you go with us?"
"I've told you, Eddie. I want to go somewhere where no one can find me", Sherlock said with a smile. "Remember to take good care of Amy, and don't let her be alone."
Eddie didn't believe him. He thought Sherlock wanted to stay behind to reassure the Death Eaters so that they and Amy could leave safely.
"Let me stay with the stone tablet! You take Amy and go!"
Sherlock ignored Eddie. In front of the Death Eaters, he couldn't say certain things too clearly. He stared directly at Bella.
"I'll stay with the stone tablet. You give them a place where they can Apparate, and let them Apparate in front of me. Then I'll give you the stone tablet."
Bella, who had not yet received a response from Voldemort, didn't want to waste any more time. Like Eddie, she believed Sherlock was determined to sacrifice himself to ensure the others' safety.
"Goyle", she said, looking at a tall, muscular Death Eater.
The Death Eater, who was likely the father of Draco's future sidekick, stepped forward, grabbed Madame Selwyn, and dragged her to Eddie and Amy's side.
"No, John, please, don't give them that thing, please!"
Madame Selwyn pleaded, and Eddie stared at him intensely.
"You said you value your life and wouldn't die so easily!"
Sherlock looked at him, hands in his pockets, and shrugged with a smile.
"Of course, I won't die so easily."
His hand, reaching into his pocket, suddenly touched a cold, hard object, which made him remember something.
"Can you come over here for a moment, Eddie? I have something to tell you."
The Death Eaters watched the scene with cold indifference, making no move.
Eddie's wand had been confiscated, and with all the Death Eaters' wands pointing at Sherlock, they had no way to resist.
Eddie walked to Sherlock's side, using his body to shield their interaction from the Death Eaters. Sherlock then pulled out a metal object from his pocket and placed it in Eddie's pocket.
"Help me keep this safe, no matter what happens today."
"You said you wouldn't die so easily", Eddie said, looking into his eyes.
"Alright, I'll say it again. I'm going to a place where no one can find me, not to die. I'm not lying to you, understand? I'm serious."
Whether he believed it or not, Eddie had no other choice. He had to follow Sherlock's plan, taking the object and returning to Amy and Madame Selwyn.
Madame Selwyn's wand was returned to her, and she used it to Apparate with Eddie and Amy.
Goyle led them to a corner of the hall, where a Death Eater had opened a small Apparition zone for them.
"Can't give it to them, John."
Madame Selwyn was still pleading, her wand held up, but at this point, Eddie had already snatched it from her hand.
His voice was cold.
"You should know the price of not giving them the stone tablets. John can't risk his life for this!"
Eddie, who had always prioritized the interests of the Ministry of Magic and the entire Wizarding World, was now willing to let Sherlock hand over the stone tablets to save his own life.
"Even if that's the case, we can't give them to them!" Madame Selwyn exclaimed, agitated.
The Death Eaters surrounding them raised their wands, aiming at them.
"If you don't want to leave, you can stay here and wait to die", one of the Death Eaters threatened coldly.
Eddie, however, remained the calmest at this moment. He exchanged a final glance with Sherlock, who gave him an okay sign, and then used Apparition.
He took Amy and Madame Selwyn and instantly disappeared from the spot. The next second, they reappeared on the street directly above the Ministry of Magic's underground location.
It was just past midnight, and the street, which should have been quiet, was filled with wizards in robes.
The Ministry of Magic had, of course, reacted to the Death Eaters' invasion, which had been ongoing for some time. However, the entire Ministry was now under an Anti-Apparition Charm, and all the regular entrances were blocked. The Aurors outside were still searching for a way in.
As soon as Eddie and the others appeared, they were immediately surrounded by Aurors.
Scrimgeour, Crouch, and Minkan were all eager to learn what had happened inside the Ministry.
Madame Selwyn, her voice tense and rapid, recounted the events that had transpired in the Department of Mysteries.
Eddie, holding the drowsy Amy, remained silent, his eyes fixed on the dim streetlights, feeling a sense of disorientation.
This was the second time. Including the incident in Sheffield, Sherlock had saved him twice!
This time, he was even willing to risk his own life to save Eddie and his daughter!
"Amy, Amy lied."
Amy, her face buried in Eddie's shoulder, mumbled.
Eddie gently patted her back, ignoring the furious Scrimgeour demanding an immediate report on the situation inside the Ministry. He softly asked,
"What lie did Amy tell?"
"John said he would leave one day. Amy felt it was true, but she was afraid to admit it. Amy doesn't want John to leave her."
Eddie's face broke into a smile, but his eyes were moist with unshed tears.
He held Amy tightly, struggling to control his emotions, and whispered soothingly,
"No, Amy, this time your feeling is wrong. John won't leave you. He promised to stay with you until you start school. John has never lied to you."
Amy's voice grew fainter, and she seemed to be falling asleep.
"John is going to a place Amy can't find. Amy is so sad. Only John is willing to stay with Amy. Only John gives Amy gifts. Only John likes Amy, and Amy likes John."
She finally drifted off to sleep, her head resting quietly on Eddie's shoulder. The tear that trickled down her cheek glistened in the streetlight, like a fallen angel who had lost her wings.
