Chapter 193: I'm the Most Familiar Eagle in All of Hogwarts!
Chapter 193: I'm the Most Familiar Eagle in All of Hogwarts!
"Owl? Why did I turn into this? This can't be possible. It would be much better to turn into a Phoenix or a Thunderbird", Ivan stood by the pond, looking at his reflection in the water, and said helplessly.
As the transformation completed, the System’s prompt sounded in Ivan’s mind at the same time.
[Ding, your Transfiguration level has increased. Current level 5 (3/3200)]
[Ding, Special Magic: Animagus Transformation (Owl) has been unlocked.]
"I know I turned into an Owl, but can't you use a different term like 'night Owl'?" Looking at the name of the Animagus transformation in the System, Ivan couldn’t help but complain.
Perhaps sensing Ivan's request, the System interface changed from Chinese to English, eliminating the issue of synonyms since they were all the same word.
Ivan rolled his eyes. The only thing to be thankful for was that his Transfiguration skill, which had been stuck for a long time, finally upgraded as he had hoped.
However, Animagus transformation was a special type of Magic without a level display. It strengthened as the Transfiguration level increased.
"Fine, Owl it is", Ivan sighed.
Since the Animagus form was already determined and couldn’t be changed, Ivan quickly accepted the fact and began to study how this form could help him.
The most crucial aspect was stealth!
As the most reliable animal companion for Wizards, Owls were everywhere in the Wizarding World. When needed, he could easily disguise himself as a messenger Owl to enter various places without drawing attention.
What Ivan found slightly disappointing was that he couldn’t cast Spells in his Owl form.
Although he still possessed Magic, without a wand, Gesture, or Spell to guide it, he couldn’t use Magic.
This made his combat ability in this state quite limited.
Ivan couldn’t help but think back to the previous year in the Forbidden Forest, where that fast-running Tabby Cat had managed to evade everyone. Perhaps there was a way to enhance his combat ability in his Animagus form.
If he remembered correctly, Sirius Black, who was also an Animagus, could transform into a dog that even managed to hold off Remus Lupin when he turned into a Werewolf.
That wasn’t something an ordinary large dog could do.
With this in mind, Ivan stopped worrying and flapped his wings, getting used to his new body. Before long, he was flying again, albeit a bit wobbly.
Since the trial period hadn’t ended, Ivan quickly mastered the basic flight techniques in the forest created by the Room of Requirement.
Ivan soon realized that the ability to fly freely was a huge advantage. Compared to transforming into other creatures, it offered much higher safety and mobility.
More importantly, feeling the gentle breeze on his face, Ivan found it much more enjoyable than riding a broomstick.
After adapting for a while, Ivan remembered his exploration mission. He now seemed to have found a way to complete it.
Infiltrating the dormitory as an Owl was much safer than using the Polyjuice Potion.
Unless his acting was terrible or he ran into a Transfiguration expert like Dumbledore, he could move freely throughout Hogwarts.
Ivan didn’t hesitate. He struggled to open the door and flew out of the Room of Requirement, wandering around the Hogwarts castle.
It was already evening, and the young Wizards, who had just finished dinner, were chatting in groups as they returned to their dormitories.
Ivan flapped his wings and flew overhead, unnoticed by anyone. In fact, he could even eavesdrop on their conversations, as he was just a grayish-white Owl to them, nothing to pay attention to.
What delighted Ivan even more was that this form brought him far more benefits than he had anticipated. Due to the transformation, he automatically mastered a new language—owl speech!
Whenever an owl flew past him, Ivan could glean some information from their calls.
"Hoot, hoot, hoot~ (Going to deliver a letter)" This was a messenger owl.
"Hootie, hoot, hoot, hoot~ (So hungry, can't fly anymore)" This was a thin owl.
"Hoot, hoot, hoot, hoot, hoot (Today's password for Slytherin is Pure-Blood)" This was an owl belonging to Slytherin.
Although most of the owls' calls were just idle chatter, occasionally some useful information would slip through.
For example, today’s password to enter the Slytherin dormitory.
This discovery made Ivan extremely happy, as it meant he could visit the Slytherin dormitory.
Just as Ivan was about to act, a grayish-white owl with a letter tied to its leg lazily flew past him.
Ivan paused, then suddenly turned his head.
Why does that letter-carrying owl look so much like me?
Then, an idea struck him.
A thousand thoughts raced through Ivan's mind. He quickly turned around, flapped his wings, and caught up to the owl that looked like him.
"Hoot, hoot, hoot~ (Hey, where are you going? Need some help with directions?)" Ivan tried to communicate with the owl using his owl speech, which he wasn't sure how proficient he was in.
"Hoot, hoot (To deliver a newspaper to the Ravenclaw Girls' Dormitory. I know the way, no need for your help!)" The grayish-white owl glanced sideways at Ivan and hooted.
Ivan's eyes lit up. He was just worried about finding a suitable identity to explore the Girls' Dormitory, and this was a perfect opportunity.
"How about I help you deliver the letter? That way, you can rest for a bit. You know, I'm the most familiar with the routes in all of Hogwarts, and everyone calls me the helpful delivery owl." Ivan hooted.
"Hoot, hoot~ (No, I must deliver the letter myself!)" The grayish-white owl completely ignored Ivan's offer and continued flying forward.
As a disciplined owl, it would never let another owl deliver its letter just to be lazy.
Ivan tried to persuade the owl, but it remained indifferent. In frustration, Ivan had to resort to his ultimate move.
Ivan flapped his wings vigorously and soared into the sky, then dived down at an even faster speed.
Night Owl Strike!
The keen hearing of the grayish-white owl detected the danger, but it was too late. It could only manage a "hoot" before Ivan's wing slammed it to the ground.
Having succeeded with his first move, Ivan followed up with a series of rapid wing flaps.
With the flow of magic, Ivan discovered that he was much stronger than before. It didn't take long for him to knock the innocent owl unconscious.
Then, Ivan calmly untied the thin rope from the owl's leg, picked up the newspaper with his beak, and pretended to fly towards the Ravenclaw dormitory.
From now on, he was a letter-carrying owl.
(PS: The next chapter's title is too long to fit, so here's a preview: Ivan: Why are you making things difficult for a poor owl who just wants to deliver a newspaper?)
