Chapter 193: Another Profitable Day
Chapter 193: Another Profitable Day
Mila didn’t take advantage of Rod’s newfound wealth by picking an expensive restaurant; instead, she chose an ordinary dessert shop.
The two sat for a while, exchanging information about Rebi, which made Rod feel a bit uneasy.
“Why don’t you team up with them this time?” Mila was quite looking forward to the story of Rod and the Lane Engine team.
“I don’t think so, it might be better not to interfere too much,” Rod said. “And Troy is pretty confident.”
“You’re right.” Mila was prepared to see Troy’s performance.
They chatted for a bit. Mila ate half of her cake and, out of habit, pinched her waist, worried about her figure.
Rod naturally reached out to take her plate.
“…” Mila felt something was off. When did they start having this kind of rapport?
Before Rod could start eating, she pulled the plate back and used her fork to scoop a large piece into her mouth, glaring at Rod while she ate.
Rod: “?”
Did I say something I shouldn’t have?
After leaving the dessert shop, Mila returned to her usual self and seemed to be in a good mood.
Rod was a bit confused. Why did she glare at me just now?
Seeing his confusion, Mila’s mood improved even more. She said she would treat Rod to something different next time.
Rod vaguely agreed, finding women’s thoughts sometimes hard to understand.
…
They returned to the guild together. As soon as Rod walked in, Gray pulled him aside.
“Finally back, Rod, i have something to ask you!”
Rod instinctively replied, “not this again, you too?”
Gray was puzzled, “too? Is someone else concerned about this?”
Rod realized he might have misunderstood, “uh… wait, what do you want to ask?”
“About the mission you and Erza did last Time.”
“…” Rod was stunned. did this guy like erza? no, no, his focus was on the mission, not erza. these days, troy’s situation had thrown off his thinking.
“What do you want to know? for the record, i’m not sure how much i can say about the council’s mission.” as a mage, there were certain rules to follow.
Some things couldn’t be shared even with comrades unless they were directly affected.
Gray’s expression turned serious, “the demon thing.”
“!” Rod looked at him, “where did you hear that?”
“a couple of days ago, while working, i heard that the mages of fairy tail defeated a demon. one was a red-haired knight, and the other was a powerful beast tamer. i thought it was you guys.”
“beast tamer what?” rod’s face darkened. what a terrible nickname.
besides, was the council’s security system so bad that even their target being a demon had leaked out?
“come with me.” rod pulled gray to find mila, repeated gray’s words, and asked if this would be a problem.
gray added some details, which also served as a report on his mission.
mila thought for a moment and said, “i don’t think it’s necessarily because the council’s information leaked.
the demon they were talking about with gray probably refers to the black magic cult members. their actions are certainly demonic enough.”
rod nodded, “that’s possible, so it’s a misunderstanding on gray’s part.”
“wait a minute.” gray realized something, “you mean to say that besides them, there are real demons?”
Rod groaned, "Damn, now it seems like I leaked the information."
"It's fine, the demon didn't appear, right? If you put a spin on it, it didn't officially happen during the mission, so telling Gray is okay," Mila said with a smile.
"Besides, the title 'Beast Tamer' is pretty cool," she added.
"Don't even mention it," Rod sighed. Nicknames were given by others, not chosen by oneself, and there was no way to change them.
He gathered his thoughts and summarized, "It was a black magic cult trying to summon the devouring demon Carnieb from the Book of Zeref.
Erza and I stopped them before the summoning ritual began, dismantled their altar, and arrested all of them."
"Didn't summon it, huh..." Gray turned and left, relieved. "Thanks."
"Huh..." Rod didn't understand why Gray was thanking him so abruptly and decided to ask Mila.
"I'm not sure about the details, but I heard that about ten years ago, Gray's hometown was destroyed by a demon," Mila whispered.
"He might have lost his family then. His habit of stripping might have started during that time."
"..." Another kid with a tragic past, Rod thought. Besides sympathy, he didn't know what he could do.
Was his strange habit related to his tragic past?
Could Erza's habit of wearing armor also be hiding some hidden story? She did show some unusual behavior during the mission.
But when Rod asked, even Mila didn't know.
"Someone asked Erza about her past, but she wouldn't say anything. It's as if her life only started when she joined the guild... Perhaps it's a painful experience she doesn't even want to talk about."
Mila noticed Rod's concern for Gray and Erza and comforted him, "It's okay. No matter what their pasts are, we've all managed to move forward, haven't we? As long as we have the guild, we can keep moving forward together."
"Right... Yawn~" Rod yawned, suddenly feeling a bit drowsy.
Mila was about to get angry that he was dozing off while she was talking, but then she realized her own eyelids were getting heavy. "Mystogan again?"
She swayed and fell, and Rod struggled to support Mila, and they both ended up leaning against the counter, falling asleep together.
The other members of the guild were also sprawled out, asleep.
Master Makarov, with droopy eyes, called from the second floor, urging them to hurry up.
Mystogan greeted the Master, selected a mission, and then dispelled his magic, disappearing.
As the guild members gradually woke up, there was a chorus of grumbling and complaints.
Rod opened his eyes, feeling the weight on his shoulder, and decided to close them again.
A few seconds later, the weight disappeared, and he suddenly felt a pain in his waist.
"Ouch~~ It hurts..."
Mila retracted her hand, her face slightly red, "For pretending to be asleep even when I woke you."
Rod rubbed the sore spot, puzzled, "How did you know I wasn't really still asleep?"
"Intuition," Mila turned her head, huffing. Her heart was beating so fast, and he was still pretending to be asleep. Who was he trying to fool?
Women's intuition? Are you some kind of superhero?
Rod thought she was making it up.
But today wasn't a loss, and it was about time to train.
Rod looked up at Master Makarov on the second floor, "Master, are you free now?"
