Chapter 192
Chapter 192
Kuangzong Jianying strode calmly into the commander’s conference room. At the table, four people were already seated. One was his close friend Wu Dao Ke. The other three sat on the opposite side of the long table, their Ids displayed as yidao qingcheng, yijian qingcheng, and caibupainenotafraid.
Jianghu was a top-tier guild, and discipline was maintained. No one was indulging in snacks like potato chips, but they weren’t idle either. Everyone held a beverage, sipping occasionally.
In Terrifying Paradise, snacks and drinks were purely for satisfying cravings. They provided no buffs, didn’t restore survival points or stamina value, and certainly wouldn’t help real-life players skip meals. Yet sales of these items were surprisingly brisk. Whether it was hardcore Classplayers, high-spending Rmbplayers, or casual common players, everyone bought a few to taste.
Could Dream Corporation’s virtual foods truly be this appealing? The answer was yes. Their products fell into three categories. The first included trendy, mass-market items like potato chips, cola, and cigarettes. The second catered to luxury goods—real-world pricey items like precious herbs, chocolate, and alcoholic beverages. The third category featured bizarre, never-before-seen products, such as “Gala Crocodile Jerky” and “Rainbow Juice” inspired by gourmet manga, or horror-themed original creations like “Eyeball Skewers” and “Mummy Bandage Zongzi.”
Though the Open Beta period was short and most items weren’t expensive, Terrifying Paradise’s profits from these goods were already rivaling those of other consumables like ammunition, medicines, and batteries. This trade had become a major channel for the system to reclaim in-game currency from players.
“Has Xiao Ge not arrived yet?” Kuangzong Jianying asked as he sat down, glancing at the three Jianghu members across the table. Though unfamiliar, he nodded politely in greeting.
Wu Dao Ke replied, “He’s probably busy arranging the matter you mentioned earlier.”
“Is it really that complicated?” Kuangzong Jianying asked.
“You just dropped it and walked away,” Wu Dao Ke chuckled. “We’ve been swamped! Did you think mechanics proficiency was easy to master? Outside the Order, which guild can summon multiple skilled players at a moment’s notice for any given profession?”
Kuangzong Jianying shrugged. “I’ve never trained it myself. I don’t know the specifics.”
As he spoke, the conference room door opened again. A man about 1.85 meters tall entered, his face calm and resolute.
Xiao Wen Cang Tian—co-founder of Jianghu Studio and commander of its guild.
If a group were stranded on a deserted island or trapped in an unknown danger zone, Xiao Wen Cang Tian would be the one they relied on, the person expected to step forward and take charge.
In short, he radiated leadership. To put it plainly, he simply looked trustworthy.
In real life, Xiao Wen Cang Tian, Wu Dao Ke, and Kuangzong Jianying were already young entrepreneurs. In the game world, they were legendary Classplayers. Yet the one who best embodied Jianghu Studio’s spirit was undoubtedly Xiao Wen Cang Tian.
In terms of gaming prowess, the three were evenly matched. They’d often sparred in previous VR games, with no clear winner. Ignoring class and equipment, their in-game capabilities were nearly identical.
But when it came to running a company, Wu Dao Ke and Kuangzong Jianying lagged far behind. From the start, all critical decisions and future strategies for their grassroots-founded studio had been laid out by Xiao Wen Cang Tian. For a company like theirs, such a strategic leader was the cornerstone of success.
“Everyone here?” Xiao Wen Cang Tian took his seat at the head of the table, glancing first at Wu Dao Ke and Kuangzong Jianying on his right, then at the trio on his left.
“Exchanged a few words,” Wu Dao Ke said. “But Jian Shao just arrived. Why don’t you introduce everyone?”
Xiao Wen Cang Tian raised his right arm, gesturing to the three on his left. “Jian Shao, this is Kuangzong Jianying.”
“We’ve heard so much about you!” yidao and yijian exclaimed, excited yet slightly awkward.
The fearless girl beside them merely smirked, unimpressed.
“Please, don’t stand on ceremony,” Kuangzong Jianying laughed.
Xiao Wen Cang Tian continued, “Though yidao and yijian aren’t Classplayers, their login schedules are consistent. I think they’ve got potential.” He paused. “You’ve always complained about finding suitable teammates for kill mode. What if they joined your squad?”
“Sounds good,” Kuangzong Jianying agreed readily. He knew how to handle such situations—either decline outright or accept decisively. Hesitating, as though scrutinizing merchandise, would only embarrass yidao and yijian.
“We’re all in the same guild, and there’s even experience bonuses. I’d be delighted!”
“Great! Please take care of us,” yidao and yijian beamed. For them, joining a renowned guild like Jianghu was a privilege. Xiao Wen Cang Tian’s “potential” remark alone was enough to boost their confidence. Now assigned to Kuangzong Jianying’s party, it was a golden opportunity. As fellow cold-weapon melee players, observing a top-tier warrior like him up close was sure to elevate their skills.
“Also, this is caibupainenotafraid,” Xiao Wen Cang Tian added. “Recommended by yidao and yijian. She joined today—I wanted you two to meet her.”
Wu Dao Ke and Jian Shao exchanged subtle glances. “Meet her”? Was this someone special—a girlfriend or relative? Yet the introduction didn’t sound like that. Perhaps she was a highly skilled casual player they needed to recognize, despite not being a studio employee.
“Hello,” caibupainenotafraid said casually. Her usual scenario-charming demeanor was gone, replaced by a tomboyish frankness.
Wu Dao Ke, having arrived earlier, had already greeted her. Jian Shao, meeting the fearless girl for the first time, replied, “Hello,” while musing, Never seen her before. No Classplayer I know uses “Caibupainenotafraid” as a nickname. Yet Xiao Ge treats her seriously… Interesting.
“Fearless, you’ll team up with Wu Dao Ke for scenarios,” Xiao Wen Cang Tian instructed. “Maintain stable logins to level quickly. Once you hit thirty, I’ll assign you to a specialized squad for nightmare difficulty team survival mode. Also, for levels thirty to thirty-nine, there are three ‘Ranking War Outpost Battle’ matches. I hope you’ll join guild members. I’ll arrange logistics.”
…
Meanwhile, in the Hell Front Conference Room.
Feng Bu Jue entered to find Si Yu resting her chin on her hands, watching the dull spectacle of Bei Ling tossing popcorn kernels at Xiao Tan across the table, aiming to stick them in his hair.
“Waiting for me?” Feng Bu Jue asked. They were logged into the game’s sleep mode.
“Only ten minutes,” Si Yu replied.
Feng Bu Jue studied the popcorn pile on Xiao Tan’s head. “Curious—what would’ve happened if I’d been even later? Would you two have upgraded to something more creative?”
“Maybe she’d ask me to catch them in my mouth,” Xiao Tan said.
“I’m glad you finally found a friend your mental age,” Feng Bu Jue teased.
“Liar! I’m way more mature than him!” Bei Ling retorted.
“Of course. Everyone knows girls mature faster,” Feng Bu Jue quipped, taking a seat.
Bei Ling shot him a sidelong glance and stuck out her tongue.
“Hearing you’re going on TV?” Si Yu asked.
“You’ve already spread the gossip, I see,” Feng Bu Jue admitted, turning to Xiao Tan. “By the way, how’s your left hand? Any side effects from crushing the slow sand vial?”
Xiao Tan raised his hand. “No anomalies. I even played two scenarios after work. Whatever quicksand effects we got must’ve disappeared after leaving Death Q&A’s scenario.”
“Scenario debuffs don’t carry over to login space,” Bei Ling added. “Commander, didn’t you memorize the game guide? Why the obsession?”
Because that scenario felt off, Feng Bu Jue thought, keeping it to himself.
“Good to hear,” Si Yu steered back on track. Without her, who knows how long these fools would’ve dawdled. “Everyone’s survived several scenarios. Let’s sync levels and status, then prepare to move out.”
