Chapter 192: The White Jade Ape That Holds Up the Sky
Chapter 192: The White Jade Ape That Holds Up the Sky
In the courtyard of the mountain peak, Lu Chen took out three jade slips and pressed one against his forehead, allowing his spiritual sense to slowly seep into it.
Soon, a torrent of information rushed into his mind, filling his sea of consciousness to the brim, almost to the point of overflowing.
Like a sponge, he frantically absorbed the cultivation knowledge that flooded into his consciousness, continually processing and digesting it.
After nearly half an hour, Lu Chen exhaled a turbid breath, his expression much more relaxed.
Imprinted within his consciousness was the cultivation method of the Great Five Elements Technique, along with its intricacies, routes, and instructions for casting intermediate-level five element spells. With a mere thought, he could summon the corresponding knowledge and carefully contemplate its intricacies.
"As expected of an advanced version of the Lesser Five Elements Technique, the difficulty of cultivation has increased severalfold, but of course, the effects have also improved significantly."
Lu Chen sighed, and then proceeded to absorb the sword techniques and light body art from the other two jade slips in the same manner.
Once the knowledge from the jade slips had been completely absorbed, they automatically shattered into powder, ensuring that their secrets would not be easily disseminated.
"Even after advancing to the Foundation Establishment realm, farming remains the most important task. However, during my leisure time, I can still cultivate my skills and techniques."
He sighed inwardly.
While other cultivators focused primarily on cultivation, along with dueling, exploring opportunities, pill refining, and artifact crafting, with plant cultivation taking a back seat, Lu Chen was the opposite. In his eyes, everything else paled in comparison to the art of nurturing spiritual plants; they were but fragile chickens and dogs.
After briefly familiarizing himself with the three cultivation techniques, he made his way to the spirit plant fields.
He traversed the mountains, inspecting the growth of countless spirit plants scattered across the peaks.
All the spirit plants flourished, with some entering the maturation stage, some sprouting new branches and leaves, growing robustly, and others taking root and sprouting, or still in the gestation phase. Each stage teemed with vitality, filling Lu Chen, the spirit herbologist, with immense satisfaction.
"A batch of Spirit Glow Grass has matured as well."
He examined the remaining ordinary Spirit Glow Grass, carefully checking each one, and finally selected thirty-two perfectly mature specimens.
Due to the recent transplantation, the quality of the newly matured Spirit Glow Grass was slightly lower on average. Out of the thirty-two plants, only four were of perfect quality, while the rest were of good or superior quality.
On the ground, where the plants had been harvested, thirty-two white light orbs flickered, drawing Lu Chen's attention.
A smile tugged at his lips as he gently picked up the nearest one.
The light orb transformed into countless specks of light that flowed into his body, and a thought immediately flashed through his mind.
You have harvested a Spirit Glow Grass. Gain two months of cultivation progress.
"Hmm?"
Just as Lu Chen was about to pick up the second light orb, a sudden thought appeared in his mind, interrupting his actions.
"Two months of cultivation progress? Why would this happen?"
A hint of panic flashed in his eyes. He recalled that the white light orb he had just absorbed originated from a Spirit Glow Grass of good quality. According to his past experiences, he should have gained six months of cultivation progress, yet this time, he had only received two months' worth.
Lu Chen adjusted his breathing and proceeded to pick up the second light orb.
It wasn't until he absorbed the fifth light orb that he received another cultivation progress reward. This particular orb had come from a Spirit Glow Grass of superior quality, which should have granted him nine months of progress, but he only gained three months' worth after absorption.
"Compared to before, the cultivation progress gained from these light orbs has decreased by two-thirds. I wonder what the reason is?"
"The timing of the harvest and the quality of the spirit plants don't seem to be any different from before. On the contrary, the spiritual energy and soil here on the mountain peak are better than those in my previous cave abode. The only change is my advancement to the Foundation Establishment realm."
"Could it be that the disparity in quality has led to a reduction in cultivation progress rewards?"
A realization struck Lu Chen, reminding him of certain video games from his past life. In those games, when the level difference between the character he controlled and the monsters he fought was too great, the experience gained would be reduced or even nonexistent.
When he was at the Qi Refining stage, he had once harvested two third-rank spirit plants, the Giant Dragonvine and the Dream Smoke Fruit, and obtained the top-grade body-refining art, the Tai Xu Hua Long Scroll, and the fourth-rank array, the Thousand Illusion Misty Smoke Array.
"In the past, I would occasionally receive rewards of higher quality, but they were mostly talismans or materials, less important than cultivation arts and arrays. So, it seems that cultivating a spirit plant of a higher rank than my current realm does indeed grant additional rewards."
Lu Chen analyzed the situation.
"Thankfully, I planned ahead and conducted experiments in advance to improve the Spirit Glow Grass variety," he thought, calming himself. Looking at the remaining Spirit Glow Grass, he decided to make some adjustments.
Instead of harvesting the remaining 134 ordinary Spirit Glow Grass plants, he intended to refine them all into Spirit Seeds and then use a large number of those seeds to induce mutated spirit plants.
With the 26 Ice- and Fire-type Spirit Glow Grass plants he had already successfully induced, as well as the 50 plants currently in the stimulation phase, he was confident that he would soon succeed in improving the variety with the abundant resources at his disposal.
"My biggest advantage in the improvement process is that I can cycle through the induction of Spirit Seeds. I don't need to cultivate them for a period of time before discovering abnormalities; I can directly plant the Spirit Seeds and immediately gain insight into their characteristics, greatly shortening the induction process."
"Additionally, for mutated spirit plants, I can make the most accurate adjustments and choices based on their real-time state, which will also save a lot of time."
Lu Chen thought with full confidence.
"What a scare! Let's have some grilled fish to calm my nerves."
He walked to the edge of the lake, and a red light silently pierced the water's surface. After a few breaths, the Red Line Needle emerged with a fat spirit fish wriggling on its tip.
The spirit fish flopped on the ground, its tail slapping wildly as it tried to return to the lake.
Lu Chen casually pulled a gray grass rope from the nearby grass puppet and tied up the fish before carrying it back to the courtyard.
Over slow-burning coals, the fish sizzled, filling the air with a mouthwatering aroma that attracted the Wind Falcon chick incubating the Fire Dragon Wyrm eggs and the Cloud-Stepping Lynx from the forest.
Lu Chen flipped the fish, drizzling it with simmered demon beast oil, spices, and seasonings, intensifying the fragrance. The Wind Falcon chick's belly contracted and expanded anxiously, while the Cloud-Stepping Lynx pretended to be nonchalant, pacing back and forth with its emerald green eyes never leaving the grilled fish.
"Come, come, freshly grilled fish," Lu Chen said, tossing several silver-white scraps that divided the fish into over ten portions. He gave two portions to each of his two little companions and then grabbed a large piece for himself, devouring it with relish.
"Cheep!"
A familiar chirp echoed as a white lupine bird appeared in the courtyard.
Lu Chen's eyes curved with a smile as he beheld the majestic and elegant Xuan Tian White Luan.
"I haven't told you about my new home yet, and here you are, finding me on your own, you greedy little thing," he said affectionately.
"Oh, and you've brought a little friend?" Lu Chen's heart leaped with joy as a petite and exquisite monkey slowly emerged, following closely behind the bird, glancing curiously at Lu Chen and the tantalizing grilled fish before them.
"Here, try this new dish," Lu Chen said, tearing off two chunks of fish meat and tossing them to the bird and the little monkey.
As his consciousness focused on the monkey, a thought flashed through his mind.
White Jade Ape That Holds Up the Sky: A third-rank demon beast and the protective beast of the Tian Jian Sect. It contains the bloodline of the ancient exotic beast, the Sky-Holding Ape, and has the potential to grow into a seventh-rank demon beast.
Ferocious and belligerent by nature, it enters a frenzied state that greatly enhances its strength.
I want this heaven, no longer to hide my eyes.
