Chapter 192: Black Silk
Chapter 192: Black Silk
Under the cover of night, amidst the passionate violin music, Qiao Sang and Crown Cat locked eyes, as if fate had brought them together.
The next second.
Crown Cat flicked its tail and walked away.
Qiao Sang: “!!!”
“Fangy! Chase it!”
Qiao Sang leaped gracefully, landing on Fangy's back.
“Yah!”
Fangy, upon hearing its Beastmaster’s command, instinctively tried to start running, but as it took a step with its left front paw, it seemed to remember something and pulled back.
“Yah?”
Who were they chasing again?
Qiao Sang: “...”
“Just the short-legged one walking ahead! The one with the backpack!” Qiao Sang pointed at Crown Cat, who was elegantly walking away and was almost out of sight.
“Yah!”
Fangy barked, indicating it had locked onto the target.
It crouched slightly, its right hind paw scraping the ground a couple of times.
Treasure Seeker, seeing this, quickly floated to Qiao Sang’s head, one paw still holding the half-eaten sausage, the other tightly gripping Qiao Sang’s hair.
“Xun Xun!”
Just as Treasure Seeker prepared, Fangy disappeared in a blur.
Leaving the little girl standing alone, looking puzzled.
When the young father found the little girl, he saw her staring intently in a certain direction.
“Didn’t I tell you not to run around? How did you end up here?” the young father rubbed his daughter’s hair, his voice hoarse with concern.
The little girl snapped back to reality and looked up with a smile. “Daddy, I just saw a Flame Listener!”
The young father, recalling his own recent encounter, twitched the corner of his mouth. “Are you sure you didn’t mistake it for something else?”
The little girl countered, “Of course not! I even petted it!”
“Is that so?” The young father took his daughter’s soft, white hand. “Let’s go home and tell Mom.”
On the square, the father and daughter walked away together, their figures gradually disappearing into the distance.
“Daddy, when I grow up, I want to be a Beastmaster too!”
“Sure.”
“I want to bond with Fangflare and make it evolve into a Flame Listener!”
“Sure.”
“Daddy, are you done with your big task?”
“...”
“Can we buy a Flame Listener model right now?”
“...”
...
In the night breeze, Crown Cat ran ahead, with Fangy in hot pursuit.
In terms of speed, Fangy should have caught up quickly.
However, Crown Cat's small, agile body and its tendency to dart into narrow, obstacle-filled areas made it difficult for the larger Fangy to catch up, despite five minutes of chasing.
Qiao Sang, sitting on Fangy’s back, felt the thrill of the speed and the pain in her scalp, her adrenaline continuously surging.
Along the way, she had considered having Fangy use Skills, first thinking of using Psychic Power to control.
But after Fangy used Psychic Power, its speed slowed down, and its accuracy was worse than usual.
Qiao Sang immediately realized that familiars needed to concentrate their Mental Power and internal energy to use Skills, which was difficult while running.
Physical Attack Skills were fine, as they involved the body's movements, but Special Attack Skills were not feasible.
This was why, during battles, familiars mostly stood still to release Skills.
Using Teleport to chase also wouldn’t work, as Fangy’s current Novice-level Teleport couldn’t carry a person. If she forced it, she might end up face-planting into the ground.
Fortunately, she had more than one familiar...
Seeing Crown Cat run into another alley, Qiao Sang shouted, “Treasure Seeker, block it!”
“Xun!”
Treasure Seeker, holding the now cold half-sausage, instantly disappeared from Qiao Sang’s head.
Qiao Sang’s scalp felt lighter, and her mood improved.
When she reached the alley’s entrance and saw Crown Cat, disguised as an Ironclaw, trapped by Treasure Seeker, her mood lifted even more.
“Little one, let’s see you run now,” Qiao Sang grinned, delivering a classic villainous line.
“Yah Yah!”
Fangy's mouth curled into the same villainous expression as Qiao Sang.
Meanwhile, Treasure Seeker took the opportunity to bite into the half-eaten sausage.
"Crown..." Crown Cat, caught in the middle, reluctantly used its paw to take the bag from its neck and held it out.
Qiao Sang's expression froze, and she couldn't help but comment, "Your reaction would make anyone think I'm robbing you."
"Crown?" Crown Cat blinked.
Isn't that what it looks like?
Qiao Sang didn't understand its words and continued, "Why did you suddenly run just when you were walking fine?"
"Crown..."
Crown Cat pouted. If you hadn't chased it, would it have run?
Qiao Sang went on, "Come with me. Your Beastmaster is looking for you. I'll take you back."
"Crown..."
Crown Cat hesitated for a moment and then shook its head.
Although Qiao Sang couldn't understand its words, she understood the action.
"Why? Just because you were practicing Fart?" Qiao Sang asked, puzzled.
Mentioning that made Crown Cat uncomfortable.
"Crown! Crown!" Crown Cat's expression turned serious as it tried to reason.
Qiao Sang was silent for a couple of seconds before saying, "Fangy, translate for me."
"Ya."
"Ya ya." Fangy translated seriously.
While Fangy was translating, Crown Cat noticed Treasure Seeker, who was focused on eating the sausage.
Its eyes darted around, and it threw the bag in its paw forcefully in front of Qiao Sang to block her view. Then, it turned its head, and its eyes quickly glowed blue.
The sausage in Treasure Seeker's paw was suddenly yanked to the ground by an invisible force.
"Xun!"
Treasure Seeker quickly lowered its head and extended a Short Toe to use Psychic Power.
Fortunately, the Psychic Power was used in time, and the sausage was frozen in mid-air, just a centimeter above the ground.
"Xun..."
Treasure Seeker looked down at the sausage and sighed in relief.
But at that moment, Crown Cat leaped up, using its astonishing jumping ability to land on Treasure Seeker's head. It used its front paws to snatch the Ring and then kicked off with its hind legs, jumping into the air and escaping upwards.
Treasure Seeker felt a lightness on its head and instinctively reached up with its paw.
"Xun!!!"
The next second, a scream echoed through the entire alley.
At the same time, the sausage fell to the ground.
"Xun xun!"
Treasure Seeker turned and looked up with an extremely angry expression at Crown Cat, who had knocked its sausage to the ground and taken its Ring.
"Crown."
Crown Cat, feeling Treasure Seeker's gaze, turned and smiled gracefully. Then, it calmly threw the Ring about five meters away from Treasure Seeker.
Qiao Sang caught the bag that was thrown at her and saw Crown Cat running away with Treasure Seeker's Ring.
At first, she was a bit confused.
But Crown Cat's next move—throwing the Ring—immediately made her understand its intention.
In Crown Cat's mind, Fangy was just a simple Fire Familiar. The only one capable of chasing it into the sky was Treasure Seeker. By using the Ring to hold Treasure Seeker back, it could escape smoothly.
Clever... Qiao Sang almost applauded, but the timing wasn't right.
Unfortunately, Crown Cat didn't realize that Fangy also had Psychic-type attributes.
"Fangy, use—"
Qiao Sang's voice trailed off, her expression turning blank as she swallowed hard, watching the scene unfold.
In the moonlight, all the visible shadows in the alley twisted, as if they had come to life. Strands of dark blackness extended from them, like black silk, shooting straight toward a shadow on the wall.
The black silk tugged forcefully, and Crown Cat, suspended in mid-air, was dragged down by an invisible force, pulling it back to the ground.
"Crown?!!!"
