Chapter 191: Dead End
Chapter 191: Dead End
In the winding and rugged waterways, Han Guang's entire body was enveloped by a warm stream of water, resembling a swift fish swimming ahead.
Behind him, Chen Mu's figure was like a shuttle, leaving a clear white line in the water as he moved through it with the aid of the Xunfeng intent, creating a trail of air currents.
"Chen Brother, don't chase me. I didn't do anything to your Meng Shijie. Her injuries were caused by the Blood Concealment Tower. The debt is with the one who caused it. In this water, your Thunder Quake intent is not as effective, and it won't be easy to catch up. We're just wasting time here. In this underground cavern, the Harmonious Demoness and those Sword Masters will take everything. As for chasing them, it's not that simple." Han Guang's voice rambled as he darted through the water.
His voice echoed in Chen Mu's ears, but he remained expressionless, relentlessly pursuing his target.
"Chen Brother, I remember you. I'll get you a Harmonious Demoness to play with as an apology." Han Guang's chaotic voice continued.
Suddenly, Chen Mu's gaze fixed on a narrow corner, barely wide enough for a person to squeeze through. He saw Han Guang's figure disappear, and without hesitation, he followed.
This narrow passage was only about ten zhang long, and in an instant, Chen Mu navigated through it. Just as he extended his body into the passage, a jet of water with faint glowing dots rushed towards him.
It was a Black Water Serpent, a fifth-tier demon beast comparable to a Five Viscera Realm cultivator. Chen Mu reacted swiftly, immediately striking out with a palm. In an instant, the waterway exploded, and the black water venom mixed with demonic might was blasted back by the raging wind from his palm.
"Hahahaha! Chen Brother, we'll meet again!" Han Guang's laughter echoed from a distance. He had already reached the other end of the tunnel, squeezing into a slanted upward passage and disappearing. He seemed to have used some means to bypass the Black Water Serpent.
The Black Water Serpent hissed in anger, rushing towards Chen Mu with incredible speed. Its body wasn't large, similar to an ordinary small snake, but its velocity was astonishing. In a flash, it reached Chen Mu's vicinity.
Chen Mu's eyes flashed with a cold light, and he raised his Flaming Blade. With a single strike, he cleaved through the water, splitting the serpent in two. The serpent's body wasn't large, and it withstood the impact without significant damage, only leaving a few extra scales on its body.
"Hiss..."
After being struck by Chen Mu's lightning, the Black Water Serpent's red eyes seemed to reflect human-like anger. It reared its head back, and a surge of demonic might rushed towards Chen Mu. The water surged, condensing into a glowing water ball that exploded in the water, creating a surging torrent.
Chen Mu, at this moment, didn't pay much attention to the black water serpent, instead using the power of the Whistling Wind Intent to avoid the torrent and swiftly bypass the creature, heading directly towards the other side of the cave. Although the black water serpent had the advantage in the water, Chen Mu was confident he could kill it if he continued the fight, but it would be a waste of effort."
"Hiss!"
The black water serpent, seeing Chen Mu pass by, revealed a hint of crimson in its demonic eyes, but it remained still, not pursuing him. The previous collisions had made it clear to the serpent that Chen Mu was a formidable threat, not suitable prey.
Chen Mu, having evaded the serpent, followed the path Han Guang had taken.
In reality, he had been delayed by the black water serpent long enough for Han Guang to shake him off, but Chen Mu continued the pursuit because there was one prerequisite—this path wasn't a dead end! Han Guang, fleeing from Chen Mu's relentless chase, had entered numerous caves, each with an exit. This was partly due to Han Guang's decent underwater perception abilities and partly to his luck, as such a complex underground network was bound to have numerous dead ends with only one passage, including the current tunnel.
This particular tunnel slanted upwards.
Upon reaching the end, Chen Mu suddenly felt himself leave the water, leaping out of the pool.
"Huh?"
Chen Mu surveyed his surroundings and found himself in another underground chamber, standing above a small pool with the tunnel he had come from visible at the bottom.
Based on his previous pursuit, he estimated they were still two hundred zhang deep underground.
The chamber wasn't pitch-black; instead, it had a faint bioluminescence from the walls, where jade mines glowed with either red or a faint blue light, like stars in the night sky.
As Chen Mu observed his surroundings, something suddenly emerged from the darkness, heading towards the pool.
Chen Mu, seemingly anticipating this, waved his Flame Blade, creating a blazing fire that not only blocked the figure's path but also illuminated the entire cave, revealing a figure holding a bamboo stick—Han Guang.
"Not a bad place to be buried."
Chen Mu's attack forced Han Guang to retreat several steps, unable to escape into the pool. Chen Mu spoke calmly, "I've been tracking you since you emerged from the pool. My Autumn Wind Perception has given me a clear understanding of this entire underground space. There are no other paths here; it's a dead end!"
Han Guang, perhaps sensing the black water serpent's presence, had made a decision to use it to shake off Chen Mu. However, the serpent only briefly blocked him, and the tunnel beyond led to a stone cave with no other exits.
Han Guang's face turned grim, as if he had swallowed a dead toad.
He dreaded situations like this. Although he had some perception underwater, it was less accurate in this unique stone cave. He had assumed there would be a path, but it was a dead end. If he hadn't tried to use the black water serpent and chosen another route, he might have escaped.
Now, having made the wrong move and entered a dead end, his only retreat was blocked by Chen Mu.
Swish!
Without hesitation, Chen Mu swung his Flame Blade, and in an instant, a gust of wind and thunderous impact erupted, forming a swirling flame that condensed into a towering blade of fire, extending several zhang. He slashed it down towards Han Guang's head.
This time, not being underwater, Chen Mu's attack unleashed even greater power!
Han Guang had nowhere to retreat and could only forcefully block the attack, raising his bamboo stick to draw up a surge of water from the pool. The warm water collided with the Flame Blade, creating an explosion that filled the cave with white mist. The water split in two, along with a line of fire, extending down from Han Guang's shoulder!
"I... I can't accept this..."
Han Guang's voice trailed off as his entire body fell backward. His black robe caught fire, and his vitality and breath rapidly dissipated in Chen Mu's perception.
Chen Mu watched impassively as Han Guang's body burned, slowly emitting the smell of charred flesh. A burnt crack appeared, extending from his left shoulder to his right abdomen. His eyes, still holding a hint of resentment, were now lifeless and dull.
The entire body was devoid of any sign of life.
Swish.
Chen Mu waved his hand, and all the flames extinguished.
After a brief moment of contemplation, he slowly crouched down and then abruptly raised his Flame Blade, stabbing it into Han Guang's chest.
"Ahh!"
Han Guang's "corpse" let out a scream.
His lifeless eyes suddenly widened, staring fixedly at Chen Mu. His body twitched as if struggling, but the Flame Blade that pierced his chest erupted with a surge of wind and thunder, instantly shredding his internal organs.
Chen Mu, expressionless, withdrew the blade and then swung it again, severing Han Guang's head from his neck.
This time, there was no more screaming.
