Chapter 190: The Luck of the Draw Decides Victory
Chapter 190: The Luck of the Draw Decides Victory
"He sent all his cards on the field and in his hand back to his deck in one go!" Marufuji Sho exclaimed, shocked. "Things aren't looking so good now, are they?"
"This guy's drawing power is that strong?" A light sparkled in Judai's eyes as he grew more intrigued. "Amazing! I'm getting more and more eager to duel him."
"He wiped out all my resources in an instant." Yu Xuan shrugged helplessly. "Impressive, but before that happened, I activated this card."
He pointed to another face-down card that had been set on his side of the field earlier.
Tai Shan just noticed it now, having been so focused on his closed-eye incantation that he missed the activation of this card.
"Trap Card: 'Destructive Elixir.' Destroy one monster on your field and recover LP equal to its ATK." Yu Xuan indicated the 'Dragon Bone Ghost' on his field. "Destroy 'Dragon Bone Ghost' and recover LP equal to its ATK."
[Yu Xuan: LP 2400 → LP 4800]
"Heh. Making the most of your remaining resources at the last moment, huh? Go right ahead." Tai Shan waved his hand dismissively.
"However, after that, all the remaining cards in your hand and on the field are returned to your deck!"
All of Yu Xuan's cards on the field instantly turned into golden light and flew back into his deck, including 'Despair from the Dark,' which returned to its owner, Tai Shan.
In an instant, the field was cleared of all cards.
"To remain so calm in this situation, you're quite something yourself," Tai Shan remarked. "But how long can you maintain this composure? I summon 'Angry Ape-Man'!"
[Angry Ape-Man: ATK 2000]
"Attack directly with Ape-Man!"
The fiery-red ape roared in fury, spewing out scorching flames!
However, as the swirling flames approached Yu Xuan, they suddenly collided with an illusory barrier. A ghostly phantom appeared before him, acting like a shield and blocking the attack.
"It's 'Gravekeeper's Guard' from my graveyard," Yu Xuan explained. "During your turn, by removing this card in my graveyard from play, your monster's attack becomes invalid only once during this turn."
"One of the five cards discarded by 'Hand Card Murder' at the beginning, huh?" Tai Shan nodded. "Even if you wash away my hand and field cards, I still have setups in the graveyard."
"For us mere mortals who aren't as confident in our drawing power as you guys, we have to make some preparations first," Yu Xuan said with a smile.
"You are indeed an excellent duelist. But there's a limit to relying on these tactics. I've realized that. Only drawing cards can truly decide the outcome."
Tai Shan revealed another card from his hand.
"Continuous Magic: 'Will of the Common Folk!' During your Draw Phase, if the card you draw is a Normal Monster, show it to your opponent, and you can draw one more card!"
"Another card to assist in drawing."
Everyone exchanged glances, astonished by Tai Shan's obsession with drawing.
"This is bad," Asuka said in a low voice. "Tai Shan still has that Continuous Trap, 'Miracle Draw,' on his field. During the Draw Phase, if the name of the drawn card is declared, the opponent takes 1000 points of damage."
Hayato realized the implication and added, "And with 'Will of the Common Folk,' as long as a Normal Monster is drawn, you can keep drawing cards."
"That means he can keep declaring the names of the cards he draws, and every time he draws a card, his opponent takes 1000 points of damage!" Marufuji exclaimed in shock.
"Is there such a ridiculous combo?!"
A one-turn kill by drawing?
"My training has reached its pinnacle, and my deck is themed around drawing cards," Tai Shan said confidently. "My turn is over."
Yu Xuan placed his hand on his deck, now empty-handed and with no cards on the field. On the surface, he had no usable cards left.
In truth, he had another backup plan in his graveyard, and he still had resources he could deploy. But that was just a precaution.
Indeed, as Tai Shan said, dueling in this world ultimately depended on drawing cards. The strongest tactics, formations, and builds would still need to be based on drawing cards to be effective against powerful opponents. It wasn't about getting a godly draw every time, but at least being able to perform consistently when facing strong opponents.
If his training had been successful, this draw would be a testament to that.
Marufuji Sho swallowed, sensing the gravity of the moment. "This card draw might just decide the winner. I wonder if Judai... No, he must!"
Judai, however, was more confident than the boy himself, wearing a broad smile. "Judai is a true duelist. He'll definitely pull through."
Yu Xuan closed his eyes, reliving the sensations of his training, feeling the connection between his soul and his deck.
"Draw!"
A slight smile curved Yu Xuan's lips.
Success.
"The card I drew is 'Elemental Hero Bubbleman.' When it's the only card in my hand, I can special summon it." Yu Xuan revealed his hand, which now included the aforementioned card.
[Elemental Hero Bubbleman, ATK 800]
Marufuji's eyes widened. "It's the same card Big Bro often draws when he's in a pinch!"
They all knew that nine out of ten times, Judai would draw Bubbleman when he had an empty hand and field.
Of course, Yu Xuan's deck wasn't focused on Elemental Heroes; Bubbleman was just a handy addition. After all, due to its anime effect, Bubbleman was essentially the same as Greed-Quiver, usable in most decks.
"Oh, so it's Bubbleman!"
Judai was delighted, hands on his hips.
"Hahaha, it's a testament to our burning friendship!"
"Bubbleman's summon is successful, and with no other cards on the field, I draw two more cards."
Yu Xuan drew, then played another card from his hand.
"Magic Card 'Pot of Greed,' draw two more cards from the deck."
Tai Shan was shocked. "The same card that 'Card-Stealin' Bandit' drew and then shuffled back into the deck?!"
Indeed, he was growing more convinced that he hadn't misjudged Yu Xuan. This man wasn't just tactically brilliant and adept at formations, but he also possessed remarkable drawing skills.
He was the kind of formidable opponent Tai Shan had been yearning for!
Judai, however, was unsurprised, merely smiling. "I told you, Judai is a true duelist. This level of skill is to be expected."
Marufuji: "..."
Indeed. For others, this might be considered an exceptional performance, but according to Judai's standards, it was merely average.
"Next, the effect of 'Headless Knight' in my graveyard." Yu Xuan explained, "By removing this card in my graveyard from play, I can special summon an Undead-type monster from my graveyard."
Tai Shan frowned. "So, he still has a backup plan like this."
"Therefore, by removing 'Headless Knight' from the game, I revive 'Dragon Bone Ghost' from my graveyard!"
[Dragon Bone Ghost, ATK 2400]
"As expected," Asuka smiled, "While he possesses incredible skill, he isn't the type to rely solely on card draws for victory."
Dragon Bone Ghost, reborn!
"Dragon Bone Ghost, attack Angry Ape-Man!"
The fiery-red ape was powerless to stop the demon's assault. Despite its valiant resistance, it ultimately fell, shattering into pieces.
[Tai Shan, LP 4400 → LP 4000]
"Bubbleman's direct attack!"
Bubbleman took aim with the water gun on his back, firing a barrage of bubbles at Tai Shan's face. Tai Shan crossed his arms in front of him, but the bubbles soaked him to the bone.
[Tai Shan, LP 4000 → LP 3200]
"Now, I'll set a monster in face-down defense mode on the field." Yu Xuan continued, "Then, I activate the quick-play magic card 'Evil-Crushing Blast,' discarding one card from my hand to destroy all continuous trap cards on the field."
He discarded a card from his hand to the graveyard.
"Continuous Trap 'Miracle Draw' is destroyed!"
Tai Shan glanced at his ruined trap card. "Hmm, so you've stopped my one-turn-kill combo, have you?"
"And the card I discarded is the same magic card you used earlier, 'Compensation Cards,' allowing me to draw two more cards from my deck."
Yu Xuan drew again.
A gentle smile played on his lips as he drew the card he'd been waiting for.
Finally, it had arrived.
The strongest combination in this deck, dormant until now, was finally in his hand.
"I'll set two cards face-down, and that ends my turn."
