Chapter 190: New Third-Year Class
Chapter 190: New Third-Year Class
It seemed that he would never manage to get Professor Lupin to join the Duelling Class.
Felix thought with a hint of regret.
If he really did that, it would be hard to predict whether Snape would cast a nasty curse on the new professor or point his wand at Felix, the instigator.
As for Snape's opinion of Remus Lupin, Felix could only take it as a warning.
At least, when Sirius Black had everyone on edge, Dumbledore still allowed Lupin to teach classes, including to Harry Potter and other young wizards, which showed the Headmaster's considerable trust in him.
The next day, during the third-year Ancient Runes class, Felix introduced himself to the young wizards seated below the podium.
"Most of you—"
Felix's gaze swept over the packed classroom, pausing briefly on some familiar faces—Gryffindor's Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville, as well as Slytherin's Malfoy and Millicent Bersted...
"—know me from the Duelling Class, but this is Ancient Runes, and you will find that these two subjects are very different. In the public eye, Ancient Runes is not considered a practical subject."
A Slytherin girl raised her hand, her eyes fixed on the magical automaton on the table with an enthusiastic look. "Professor, you used Ancient Runes to create a Magical Automaton!"
"Miss, what is your name?"
"Daphne", the girl said, "Daphne Greengrass."
Felix nodded. "Miss Greengrass, I said in the public eye", he emphasized. "Although I have been trying to change the outdated perception of Ancient Runes, so far, I have only seen some success within the school."
"However, you represent the future, and I believe more and more people will recognize the practical value of Runic Script..."
The audience broke into applause, Professor Hep's words stirring their enthusiasm.
"Next, we will take attendance—"
"Lavender Brown!"
"Millicent Bersted!"
"Seamus Finnigan!"
"Hermione Granger!"
"Daphne Greengrass!"
"Gregory Goyle!"
"Vincent Crabbe!"
"Neville Longbottom!"
"Draco Malfoy!"
"Harry Potter!"
"Parvati Patil!"
"Pansy Parkinson!"
"Blaise Zabini!"
"Dean Thomas!"
"Ron Weasley!"
...
Felix spent about seven or eight minutes reading out all the names.
There were so many students, and the thought of grading all their homework... Wait, he didn't have to grade it himself, did he?
He glanced at Hermione and decided to give her some extra responsibilities, even letting her handle some of the assignments.
With various thoughts in mind, Felix said, "Next, as per tradition, I will introduce the tasks for this academic year, including translation and practical Runic Script—this is my own classification. Additionally, I will give you a taste of the wonders of Runic Script creations."
Felix waved his wand, and a Magical Automaton on the podium came to life, instantly capturing the attention of many.
"Yes, a Magical Automaton. I'm sure you've heard of it?" Felix said with mock seriousness, his words met with a burst of laughter. They had heard of it, and many had even borrowed and operated them from older students.
He continued, "Fortunately, besides this, we will introduce another Runic Script creation this year: the Scrying Mirror."
Felix noticed Draco raising his hand, using his left hand—his right was bandaged and hanging from a sling around his neck.
'The student who got injured in Hagrid's class? What a coincidence,' he thought.
"Mr. Malfoy?"
"Please forgive me, Professor, but my right hand is injured and not very convenient. I wanted to say that the Scrying Mirror isn't something those alchemists came up with? My family has several high-end Scrying Mirrors that can cover the entire estate." Draco spoke with a proud tone, glancing provocatively at Ron Weasley when he mentioned the estate.
Ron glared at him angrily.
Felix looked at him with a peculiar expression, his gaze sweeping over the entire manor. Was this one of the Malfoy family's defensive measures?
How do I break through it...
“Cough, cough!” Felix pulled himself back from his wandering thoughts and explained to Draco, “What you said is correct, but I’ve improved the method of creating the Scrying Mirror by incorporating a runic circuit.”
“What’s a runic circuit?”
“You can think of it as connecting multiple Runic Scripts to achieve a specific effect,” Felix explained briefly.
A thought struck him, and he took the opportunity to promote the Runic Script Club, which didn’t exist yet: “I’ll consider explaining this knowledge in the Runic Script Club. The announcement will be posted soon, of course—there will be a test.”
Next, Felix spent about twenty minutes discussing the history of Ancient Runes, the powerful Ancient Magic, ancient Runic Script creations, and the hidden secrets of wizards. Each topic was enough to spark interest.
He successfully ignited the young wizards' motivation to learn.
However, not everyone was convinced. During the Q&A session, another Slytherin girl raised her hand, “Professor, I have a question.”
“Miss Parkinson?”
Pansy Parkinson crossed her arms, her face delicate and narrow, her short hair framing her cheeks. Even when silent, she exuded an air of arrogance and sharpness.
She tilted her head and said, “Perhaps I’m being too blunt, but if Runic Script creations have been replaced by Alchemy, it means they are no longer relevant to the times. Why should we dig them up from the grave?”
“Miss Parkinson, if we’re speaking purely in terms of facts, Alchemy does dominate the current magical world...”
Felix paused and addressed the class, “Before I answer your question, let me ask one of my own. Does anyone know what a Pensieve is?”
Hermione was the first to raise her hand.
Pansy rolled her eyes and said, “It’s a device for viewing memories. My family has one, but no one really cares about it.”
“Very good, Miss Parkinson, but please raise your hand next time you wish to answer a question,” Felix stared into her eyes, “I think you’ll remember that, won’t you?”
Pansy lowered her head, “Oh, yes, Professor.”
“Can anyone provide more detailed information... Hermione Granger.”
Hermione stood up and recited, “A Pensieve can view and store memories, faithfully reproducing any detail from the memory owner’s subconscious. Some intelligent wizards use it to examine and categorize their thoughts, but most people avoid it.”
Felix nodded, “That’s very comprehensive. I would add that the concept behind the Pensieve is extremely ancient. You’ll find it difficult to classify it as either an alchemical creation or a Runic Script creation, as it contains elements of both.”
He looked at the young wizards, “When an alchemist wants to advance further, they will inevitably encounter Runic Script knowledge, whether they admit it or not.”
“The reasoning is simple—most valuable and ancient magical creations contain runic circuits or variations thereof. The two are inherently intertwined.”
Harry raised his hand, and Felix nodded at him.
He asked excitedly, “Professor Hep, if an alchemist masters a lot of Runic Scripts, why can’t they also study Ancient Magic?”
Felix explained, “First, top alchemists have enough sense to know what they want. Alchemy is a vast field, requiring a vast amount of knowledge. Limited by their talent, they must allocate their time and energy wisely.”
“Second, you don’t think that just mastering a lot of Runic Scripts means you can learn Ancient Magic, do you?”
“I need to remind you, Potter, that there are many hurdles between individual Runic Scripts and Ancient Magic.”
Seeing the students' somewhat puzzled expressions, Felix realized he might have gone too deep. He clapped his hands, “Alright, let’s move on to looking at these two Runic Script creations.”
