Chapter 190: Escalating Warfare
Chapter 190: Escalating Warfare (End of Preview)
Location: Battlefield of the Foreign Race, Code C24763.
Not far from a permanent spatial rift, Lin Yuan sat with his legs crossed, occasionally closing his eyes in thought and occasionally lifting his head to gaze at the rift that was over ten meters long.
"Space is everything," he mused. "All things need space to gestate, grow, and wither."
Since comprehending 965 types of fundamental spatial models, Lin Yuan had begun to delve deeper into the intrinsic laws of space. With his heaven-defying insight, coupled with the spatial fluctuations emanating from the nearby permanent rift, his perception of spatial laws grew stronger with each passing day.
"Seven thousand, seven hundred, and eighty-two core spatial models," Lin Yuan frowned. After grasping the fundamental models, the next step was to understand these core models.
If the 965 fundamental spatial models were merely the surface of the laws of space, a beginner's level, then these 7,782 models were the very core. And each of these models had many facets to them, like the proverbial elephant being described by blind men; each evolutionary that comprehended them would gain unique insights.
This was why the Red Kunlun Star Master had been reluctant to demonstrate the core spatial models to Lin Yuan. What he would show was merely his own interpretation, and if Lin Yuan followed that path, he would only be led astray.
Of course, this concern of the Star Master's stemmed from Lin Yuan's terrifying innate talent. For any of the other twelve disciples, the Star Master would have had no such qualms.
"It's been a month or two since I comprehended the fundamental models, and I still haven't grasped even one of the core models," Lin Yuan sighed inwardly.
If other evolutions knew that Lin Yuan intended to master a core model in a month or two, they would probably be depressed to the point of spitting blood. Each of the 7,782 core spatial models was profound and vast, enough to occupy the minds of ordinary seventh-stage evolutions for thousands, if not tens of thousands, of years.
And Lin Yuan wanted to master one in a month or two? Even an eighth-stage evolution like the Red Kunlun Star Master, with his heaven-defying talent in spatial laws, would need to expend tremendous effort to grasp a single core model.
Especially as they delved deeper into the mysteries, the core models became increasingly abstruse and challenging to comprehend. One might stumble upon a bottleneck and remain stuck for hundreds or thousands of years.
"Slow and steady," Lin Yuan thought. "I'm in no rush."
What he had in abundance was time. With the Myriad Worlds Gate, his actual lifespan was far longer than that of his peers at the same evolutionary stage.
While traversing worlds and gaining insights into spatial laws was beneficial, it was not as efficient as observing this permanent spatial rift before him. But with his extraordinary insight, it was only a matter of time.
"I feel like my inner world is slowly expanding as I delve into the core spatial models," Lin Yuan mused.
His inner world was an extension of himself. As Lin Yuan's cultivation level increased and his understanding of space deepened, it was natural for his inner world to expand in scope.
"If I can comprehend all 7,782 core spatial models, the size of my inner world will be immeasurable," Lin Yuan thought eagerly.
The larger his inner world, the more World Force he could manipulate. If his inner world spanned a hundred miles, he would be able to crush ordinary eighth-stage evolutions with the sheer power of the World Force.
"Never mind," he thought. "Comprehending all 7,782 core spatial models is too far-fetched for now. Let me focus on grasping the first one."
Lin Yuan calmed his mind and continued his meditation. As the Tai Yin Yuan Shen comprehended the laws of space, the insights would be shared with his 'main body', allowing both Yuan Shen and the main body to share consciousness and insights.
"Hmm," Lin Yuan paused in his meditation and glanced around. "Why are there fewer foreign races around?"
He found this a bit odd. Near the permanent spatial rift, not only were there human evolutionary constantly studying it, but strong members of the Black Abyss race would also frequent the area.
Both races coveted the opportunity to meditate near the rift, as it undeniably boosted the efficiency and speed of their insights.
Because of this, the area around the permanent spatial rift had become a 'ceasefire zone' between the two races. It was understood that no one was to engage in battle here. After all, how could one focus on their insights if they had to worry about sudden attacks?
"I hope nothing major is happening," Lin Yuan felt a sense of unease. However, he reminded himself that he was only here in the form of a Yuan Shen. Even if it perished, the loss would be acceptable to him.
Losing a Yuan Shen in the main world was no small matter, and it would take Lin Yuan a significant amount of time or origin energy to reconstitute it. But with the myriad treasures and wonders of the main world, he could easily replenish his energy and recreate a Yuan Shen in just a few breaths.
On the other side of the battlefield...
A large group of Black Abyss race experts had gathered.
"What is the situation now?" asked a man with a single horn on his forehead. Thunderous black lightning crackled around his body, and the aura he exuded was enough to make an ordinary sixth-stage expert tremble.
"There have been no changes. The human civilization is unaware of our intentions," replied a short and sturdy Black Abyss expert beside him.
"Even if they suspect something, they will only think that we plan to intensify the war. They have no idea that this time, our Black Abyss race will be committing all our forces," he added in a low voice.
"Sir, if we are not careful in this final battle against the human civilization, our race will fall into an abyss from which we may never recover," said another Black Abyss expert, his voice hesitant and filled with worry.
As one of the strongest peak races in the universe, the human race would have crushed the Black Abyss race countless times if not for being held back by alliances with other peak races. Even so, the humans could easily annihilate the Black Abyss race if they were willing to pay the price.
And so, the Black Abyss race knew that their unilateral decision to initiate this final battle could only have limited consequences, even if they managed to wipe out the human evolutionary in this particular battlefield. It would not cripple the entire human civilization.
On the contrary, it would only incite furious retaliation.
"This is the will of the Insect Tribe," the horned man said after a moment of silence.
"The Insect Tribe?" The sturdy Black Abyss expert was taken aback, his expression turning grim. This was far more serious than a mere decision by the Black Abyss race to engage in a final battle.
If the Insect Tribe was ordering them to do this, did it mean they intended to initiate a final battle between peak races? Would the other peak races be involved as well? If so, this would be a war that would shake the very foundations of the universe, with the strongest beings in existence taking part.
Even a powerful race like the Black Abyss might not be able to ensure their survival in such a conflict.
"We have no choice now," the horned man said, his tone indifferent.
In the vast universe, with its myriad tribes, the peak races were the puppeteers, and all other races were but their playthings.
If the Black Abyss race dared to defy the Insect Tribe's orders, they would be eradicated, not by the human civilization, but by the Insect Tribe itself.
"Xueyou, you have been an Eighth Stage for many years. This time, you will be in charge of the southeast region outside the battlefield. Kill without mercy anyone who escapes from the human evolutionary," the unicorn man ordered.
"Yes," the short and sturdy Black Abyss expert nodded. He was reluctant to engage in an overly aggressive war with the human civilization as there were no benefits to be gained. As for the spoils of war? They were insignificant compared to the potential retaliation from the human civilization. But this was an order from the Insect Tribe, and they had no choice but to obey.
"Also," the unicorn man continued, deploying the Black Abyss experts to ambush the four corners of the battlefield to prevent any human evolutionary from escaping.
"Finally," he said, "I will lead a large group of Black Abyss experts to cleanse the battlefield of the human evolutionary."
The unicorn man looked at the gathered Black Abyss experts and said, "Go to your positions."
"Yes," they replied.
Soon, a small group of Black Abyss experts disappeared from view.
Suspended Mountains:
This was one of the bases of the human civilization on the battlefield.
At that moment, a Seventh Stage King-level evolutionary stood at the peak of the mountains, gazing towards the central battlefield.
"There's movement among the foreign races. A large number of their strong experts are returning?" The Seventh Stage King, the highest commander of the human civilization on this foreign race battlefield, frowned.
"What are the Black Abyss up to?" The Seventh Stage King, Zhou Shi, was unsure of their intentions.
"Let's avoid conflict with the Black Abyss for the time being," Zhou Shi thought to himself, deciding to remain adaptable to the changing situation.
Suddenly, Zhou Shi seemed to sense something, and his consciousness quickly connected to the virtual world.
In most areas of the foreign race battlefield, human evolutionaries were unable to connect with the Three Goddesses and access the virtual world. However, there were no such restrictions in the human civilization's bases, allowing them to connect at any time.
After a moment, Zhou Shi disconnected from the virtual world, his expression grave.
"How dare the Black Abyss do this? Are the insects planning a decisive battle against us humans?" Zhou Shi's thoughts raced as the Goddess of Freedom had just informed him that the Black Abyss might deploy their entire race to cleanse the battlefield of human evolutionary. The source of this information was the top divination master of the human civilization, who had deduced this conclusion from the myriad pieces of information gathered from a million foreign race battlefields.
The peak race, the Insect Tribe, would, for some unspeakable reason, command all their subordinate races to disregard all consequences and launch a cleansing attack on the human evolutionary in the foreign race battlefield.
"They will deploy their entire race," Zhou Shi whispered, taking a deep breath.
Although the Black Abyss was only a powerful race, they still had many Eighth Stage experts, and even some who surpassed the Eighth Stage. If they committed their entire race, the human evolutionary on this battlefield would have no chance of resistance.
"We can only flee," Zhou Shi thought to himself. This was also the advice given by the Goddess of Freedom.
As long as the human evolutionary escaped before the Black Abyss realized what was happening, they could increase their survival rate significantly due to the wide angle of dispersal. According to the Goddess of Freedom's calculations, eight to nine out of ten human evolutionary would survive.
Not far from the permanent spatial rift, Lin Yuan had just started his meditation when he heard the armored man's sound transmission.
"Brother, come back quickly, I have something important to tell you," the armored man said, asking Lin Yuan to remain as calm as possible and not attract the attention of the other foreign races.
"Important matter?" Lin Yuan asked, his expression unchanged as he got up and left.
Whoosh.
Through the transmission area, Lin Yuan returned to the Suspended Mountains.
"Hmm?" Lin Yuan looked around and noticed that many other evolutionary had already arrived.
"Something big must have happened," Lin Yuan thought.
"Everyone," the battlefield commander, Zhou Shi, suddenly appeared and addressed the gathered evolutionary. "The Black Abyss..."
Zhou Shi briefly explained the Black Abyss' plan, leaving most of the evolutionary shocked and angry.
Was this some kind of joke? In a small battlefield like this, they were sending out more than a dozen Eighth Stage evolutionary for a cleansing operation?
"However, rest assured," Zhou Shi continued, "the Black Abyss' plan, or perhaps even the Insect Tribe's scheme, has been foreseen by our human civilization's top divination master."
"Under these circumstances, as long as we escape quickly, about eight to nine out of ten of us should survive," Zhou Shi assured them.
For a secret cleansing operation like this, the most important factor was secrecy. The Black Abyss intended to deploy a large number of strong experts to block off the battlefield from all sides before the human civilization realized what was happening. By then, all the human evolutionary would be like fish on a chopping board, at their mercy.
But now, the human civilization was aware of their plan. More importantly, the Black Abyss didn't know that their scheme had been exposed.
Caught off guard, the strong experts of the Black Abyss would be unable to block off such a wide area surrounding the battlefield. Hence, according to the Goddess of Freedom's calculations, eight to nine out of ten human evolutionary would be able to escape.
"Wait here, I will activate this mountain and ram it towards the Black Abyss. Use this opportunity to escape in any direction you choose," Zhou Shi instructed. "Remember, flee with all your might."
The Seventh Stage King, Zhou Shi, spoke with gravity, his main body residing elsewhere, so he was unafraid of perishing. He was willing to stay behind and buy time for the others.
"What madness has gripped the Black Abyss?" Lin Yuan wondered as he listened. Why would they do something that would surely invite retaliation from the human civilization? Lin Yuan scanned the crowd and saw most of the evolutionary whispering among themselves, evidently confused by the Black Abyss' actions.
"I guess I'll flee as well," Lin Yuan sighed. Although the loss of the Tai Yin Yuan Shen wasn't irreparable, it was still better to avoid it if possible.
"Brother Yuan Yin," the armored man approached him. "Do you want to stick together? Just follow me, and I guarantee your safety."
"No need," Lin Yuan shook his head. As a Yuan Shen, he was unconstrained by his physical body, and at full speed, he was confident he could match the escape velocity of an Eighth Stage evolutionary.
"Don't be shy," the armored man insisted, mistaking Lin Yuan's hesitation for modesty. "I..."
Suddenly, the Suspended Mountains beneath their feet began to tremble.
"Everyone, flee immediately!" Battlefield Commander Zhou Shi's voice rang out, reaching every evolutionary.
Rumble...
All the barriers around the Suspended Mountains disappeared, and any evolutionary could now leave freely.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh! Without hesitation, the evolutionary began fleeing in all directions.
"Hmm?" The armored man turned to look at Lin Yuan, only to see him shooting away like a meteor, disappearing from his senses in an instant, covering a distance of a hundred li.
"So fast?" The armored man was astonished by Lin Yuan's speed.
