Chapter 190: Chen Xing's Heart Will
【Gear Church, Underground Passage】
“What the hell happened?” Chen Kong stared around at the unfamiliar surroundings, his face a mask of confusion.
His memory was still stuck at the moment he’d nearly been killed by Yufemia. Everything that had happened afterward—his soul’s inner space, the events that followed—was completely blank. He couldn’t recall a single thing.
Just as he was trying to figure out what had gone wrong, a voice spoke beside him.
“Young man, could you tell me where Saintess Yufemia has gone?”
Chen Kong turned. A small, unremarkable old man had suddenly appeared right next to him.
In an instant, a flood of memories surged into Chen Kong’s mind—so vivid, so unexpected, that his jaw dropped.
Steam Branch’s Chairman—Liam!
Without hesitation, Chen Kong blurted out, “S-she’s probably just ahead! Just follow this path—you’ll find her. Uh… I’ve got a gas leak at home, so I’ve gotta scram!”
He spun around and started walking—straight in the opposite direction.
But before he could take more than a step, Liam called out again.
“Don’t rush off, young man. I remember clearly—it was you and your little companion who tried to steal someone from us, not long ago.”
He paused, eyes glinting. “Right, Chen Kong, former Stellar No. 36, Void Pattern.”
Chen Kong froze mid-step. His face twisted in shock, and in the Dimensional Audience’s bewildered expression, he delivered a flawless performance of Yan Yi—a masterclass in dramatic panic.
His lips twitched, his eyes darted nervously—but when he turned back to face Liam, he instantly tightened his jaw, voice strained and unnatural.
“O-old man… you’ve got the wrong guy. I’m not Chen Kong. I’m just a regular plumber.”
“I’ve really gotta go!”
With that, he spun around, dropped into a perfect sprinter’s stance, and prepared to bolt—when a bony, yet iron-steady hand landed firmly on his shoulder.
“Ah, young people these days…”
Chen Kong stiffened, slowly turning his neck. The old man—once standing on the ground—was now floating effortlessly in midair, smiling warmly at him.
“Now, Chen Kong, no need for games. Your sister has already ordered us to withdraw the wanted poster on you. So you don’t have to be afraid of me.”
“Of course, that’s only if you don’t do anything else to break the Guild’s rules.”
Chen Kong’s forehead instantly broke out in sweat.
Because technically—he was in violation. He’d sneaked into the Guild’s restricted zone without permission. That was a clear breach.
“Come with me,” Liam said, not waiting for consent. “I just sensed two powerful presences. That’s why I came alone, ignoring the rest of the brass.”
Without another word, he grabbed Chen Kong by the collar and shot upward—straight toward the location of Yufemia’s corpse.
Watching Chen Kong—tiny and helpless, like a chick in a hawk’s grip—Dimensional Audience couldn’t stop laughing.
“Oh, look at you, Kong. Your acting is terrible.”
“Classic scene: the hero just finished a massive battle, then gets ambushed at the escape point.”
“Hey, you two—why are you blaming Kong? It’s not his fault!”
Meanwhile, the ‘Intelligence Tian Dao’ who had been monitoring from the Dimensional Screen stood up abruptly.
“Alright, Xing. It’s time for us to move.”
But Chen Xing didn’t respond.
She was completely focused on the Demon Blade Xueyan strapped to her lower back.
Just moments ago, when Bai Kong and Yufemia clashed, she’d felt a strange tremor—like something was calling out to her… and to her Yao Dao.
She didn’t know exactly what had happened to Chen Kong inside the Gear Church, but her instincts screamed: this was all connected to him.
She looked up at Tian Dao.
“Tian Dao… did you already know about the special bond between me and Kong?”
Tian Dao smiled, calm and knowing.
“I did say his Stellar Core was unique, didn’t I?”
“But you’re not just talking about the Void Pattern, are you?” she pressed.
Tian Dao didn’t answer directly. Instead, he said with a hint of mystery, “Who knows? After all, you’ve got your own little secrets too, don’t you?”
Chen Xing paused. Then she laughed softly.
“Of course. Nothing gets past your eyes.”
Tian Dao said nothing, but his gaze drifted down to the Demon Blade Xueyan nestled at her back.
“Since you’ve helped me so much,” he said, adjusting his sunglasses with a flick of his fingers, “I’ll help you deal with this little problem.”
He flashed a classic villainous smile.
“After all, fighting? That’s my specialty.”
Chen Xing couldn’t help but smile. There was genuine care in his words—yet he refused to show it, hiding it behind that cold, detached façade.
“You’re still such a drama queen,” she said, laughing.
“Star, why are you laughing all of a sudden?” Tian Dao asked, confused.
Chen Xing leaned in, her voice barely above a whisper—only for the two of them to hear.
“Nothing… I just realized you’re still as kind-hearted as ever.”
Silence.
Tian Dao froze. Then, for the first time in a long while, he looked flustered.
He stumbled slightly, quickly adjusting his sunglasses.
“M-maybe it’s just because the plan is finally coming together. I’m just… in a good mood.”
He didn’t wait for her to respond. Instead, he turned and marched forward—faster now, as if trying to escape.
Warm morning wind swept across the rooftop of the clock tower.
Chen Xing watched Tian Dao’s hasty retreat, her fingers brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. She smiled—breathtakingly, softly.
Had she seen it right? Was that… a faint blush on Tian Dao’s ear?
With that thought, she quickened her pace and caught up to him—walking beside him, shoulder to shoulder.
She knew effort didn’t always bring results.
But she believed—deeply—that as long as she kept going…
One day, she’d be the one to reach out, pull off Tian Dao’s sunglasses, and finally see her own reflection in those deep, sapphire eyes.
And that day…
Would come.
