Chapter 190: Another Powerful Card! The Zheng Family's Elder
When Lu Qing returned to Jiulicun, the surroundings were still shrouded in darkness, and the dawn had not yet broken.
No one knew that in just one night, he had traveled back and forth for over a thousand miles, completely obliterating a Seven Kills Manor outpost hundreds of miles away.
Seated cross-legged on his wooden bed, Lu Qing took a moment to regulate his breath and calm his qi before beginning to reflect on the night's events.
Firstly, there wasn't much to summarize about his opponents.
Yuanyang Stockade was merely an ordinary outpost of the Seven Kills Manor, although it boasted several Inner Bulwark Realm assassins and stringent security with numerous sentries.
However, to Lu Qing, who possessed the power of the Divine Soul, their defenses could be considered virtually non-existent.
The group of assassins led by the brocade-clad man, who were at the Inner Bulwark Realm, couldn't pose even the slightest threat to him.
There was no other way; his accumulation of power was simply too formidable, far surpassing the realm of an ordinary post-innate realm warrior.
Lu Qing estimated that with his current strength, the only ones who could pose a challenge to him in the post-innate realm would probably be those legendary peerless geniuses or children of destiny.
Or perhaps it would be the direct descendants of elite sects, carefully cultivated and possessing various powerful secret arts.
As for the rest, even martial arts masters who had tempered their divine souls would likely not be his match in a normal state, let alone force him to reveal his hidden cards.
Even an ordinary innate realm warrior…
Well, they would have to fight him first to know.
The outcome of this act of vengeance did not surprise Lu Qing.
On the contrary, the process had brought him no small amount of joy.
The biggest surprise was the effect of the Earth Travel Talisman.
A single talisman had allowed him to travel a thousand miles without tiring, and this auxiliary effect was truly astonishing.
This also made Lu Qing realize that although he could currently store only five talismans in the space of his brow acupoint, and only one of each attribute, if used properly, these five talismans would become one of his biggest trump cards.
"If talismans condensed from yuan qi have such miraculous effects, I wonder what kind of power those [Spirit Talismans] condensed from spiritual qi in the inheritance have."
Lu Qing couldn't help but speculate.
The Way of Talismans was an extremely unique cultivation system.
Drawing upon the myriad beings of heaven and earth as teachers, it was highly adaptable and not constrained by temporary cultivation environments.
In times of lush spiritual qi, it draws upon spiritual qi to forge various wondrous [Spirit Talismans], used for both battle and self-enhancement.
In times of spiritual qi scarcity, it utilizes the heaven and earth's primal qi to condense yuan qi talismans; although their might pales in comparison to [Spirit Talismans], they still possess all sorts of extraordinary abilities.
Lu Qing had already experienced the power of yuan qi talismans.
Naturally, he was even more eager to discover the might of those [Spirit Talismans].
With the impending revival of spiritual qi, if the [Spirit Talismans]' power was sufficient, then he, a practitioner of the Way of Talismans, would have nothing to fear from anyone in the future, even if he didn't turn to cultivating the immortal path.
After pondering the Way of Talismans, Lu Qing carefully recalled and reviewed the process of this trip.
Once he was certain that he hadn't overlooked anything, and his identity remained concealed, he finally laid down to rest.
As Lu Qing entered dreamland, on the other side, in Cangzhou Prefecture, the renowned Zheng family was enveloped in an extremely oppressive atmosphere.
"Are you telling me this is Yu'er?"
In the main hall of the Zheng mansion, the stern-looking head of the Zheng family asked in a frigid tone.
Before him, several guards knelt on the ground, and in the center lay two bodies covered with white cloth.
One of them had a hole pierced through their brow, and the other was even more gruesome, with their entire head blown off, reduced to a headless corpse.
Hearing the family head's question, the kneeling guards trembled, their bodies shaking uncontrollably, none daring to utter a word.
The guards and servants in the hall were petrified, barely daring to breathe as they tried to make themselves as inconspicuous as possible.
Who would have thought that the second young master would lose his life on a single trip out?
If the ancestors found out, who knew how many people would be punished.
"I'm asking you a question. Are you all deaf?" The head of the Zheng family's face turned even colder.
Feeling the increasingly icy gaze of the family head, one of the guards finally spoke up with a trembling voice.
"We, we report to the family head that the clothes the Second Young Master wore when he left the mansion in the afternoon are indeed these. The one who accompanied him was also this Commander Yang beside him."
"In other words, Yu'er went out for less than a day and was killed, and they didn't even leave a complete corpse. Can anyone tell me what happened, and where did he go this afternoon?"
Just as the guard was about to reply, a suppressed aura filled the room as several figures emerged from the inner hall.
At the forefront was an elderly woman supported by a middle-aged beautiful woman.
"Mother, why are you up?" The Zheng family head quickly went forward to help support the elderly woman upon seeing her.
The guards and servants in the hall lowered their heads even further.
"Hmph! Why am I up? I had just lain down when I heard Yanran crying out that something had happened to Yu'er. Is this true?" The old woman coldly hmphed, and the dragon-headed cane in her hand gently tapped the ground, creating a dull thud that made the floor tremble slightly.
Unbeknownst to them, the dragon-headed cane was made of metal and was incredibly heavy.
A surge of emotion flashed through Zheng's heart, and he discreetly glanced at his wife.
Then, with a pained expression, he said, "Mother, I just found out about this myself. Yu'er has been killed!"
"What did you say?!" The old woman's eyes widened at his words, and a terrifying aura emanated from her.
"Yu'er has been killed. Where is he?"
"He's right before your eyes. The guards said that this headless corpse is Yu'er, but I haven't had a chance to verify it yet."
The old woman turned her head sharply to look at the two bodies on the ground.
When she had come out earlier, she had seen the bodies covered with white cloth, but she couldn't make out the clothing.
She would never have imagined that one of them was her most beloved grandson.
The middle-aged beautiful woman was equally shocked.
She had only heard from her handmaid that something had happened to the second young master, but she never expected that he was dead.
Looking at the headless corpse, the old woman's hand trembled slightly.
However, she was no ordinary person. With immense willpower, she suppressed her emotions, and her voice came out slightly hoarse as she said, "Lu'er, go and check."
"Yes, Miss."
At the old woman's gesture, a green-clad maid with a somewhat eerie aura walked forward and gently lifted the white cloth covering the headless corpse.
Seeing the clothing on the corpse, the old woman's fingers twitched.
She remembered that Yu'er had been wearing this outfit when he came to greet her that morning.
The green-clad maid's hand paused for a moment, but she continued to gently undo the clothing on the corpse's chest.
Then, upon seeing the unique birthmark on the corpse's chest, she stopped and covered the body back up before returning to the old woman's side.
"Miss, it is indeed Young Master Yu'er." She whispered her confirmation.
The old woman swayed as if she might collapse.
"Mother!" The Zheng family head, who had been watching closely, quickly stepped forward to support her.
"Get away!" But the next moment, a terrifying force erupted from the old woman, sending him flying back.
"Who is it? Who dares to kill my Yu'er and in such a cruel manner!"
Her words were cold and chilling, like they were coming from the depths of the underworld.
Her expression was one of rage and vengeance, as if she would tear the culprit to shreds.
