Chapter 19: The Invitation from the Heaven-Cleaving Sword Guild
Chapter 19: The Invitation from the Heaven-Cleaving Sword Guild
As Su Yu walked back to the village, his mind was preoccupied with how to complete the hidden quest and dodge the Star-Casting Dragon King’s attack.
The penalty for failing the quest was no joke—a permanent account deletion! If he failed, all his efforts over the past three days and his promising start would be for nothing. He couldn't accept that.
"I don't have a clear plan yet, but I can start by learning survival skills for the Mage class," Su Yu suddenly thought.
In the early stages, Mages have three signature survival skills: Invisibility, Blink, and Ice Barrier.
Invisibility wouldn't help against the Star-Casting Dragon King, so it was out of the question.
The remaining two, Ice Barrier, could only be learned once he reached level 20 and completed a related quest in the main city.
"Seems like the only option for now is to complete the hidden quest for Blink. Yeah, that’s what I’ll do!"
With a plan in mind, Su Yu’s steps quickened as he hurried back to Nolan Village.
But before he could start the new quest, he needed to turn in the completed ones.
At the eastern end of the village, in the small magic shop, Su Yu opened his backpack and placed a fist-sized Silver Snake Gall on the wooden table.
"Peasum, I’m here to turn in my quest."
The old mage Peasum, who was facing away from Su Yu, was busy with something in his cauldron. Hearing Su Yu’s voice, he reluctantly turned around. "Couldn’t you have waited a bit longer to turn in your quest? You’ve disrupted my train of thought. Oh, it’s you! How did you return so quickly?"
Seeing that it was Su Yu, the old mage’s displeasure quickly turned into a friendly demeanor. "What do you want to buy this time? I just got in a new batch of goods."
"I’m here to turn in my quest," Su Yu interrupted, gesturing to the Silver Snake Gall on the table.
"This is..." The old mage’s eyes widened as he looked at the gall, which was twice the size of a regular silver snake’s. "This is truly the gall of the Silver Snake Leader! How did you manage that?"
He then glanced at Su Yu. "Did you hire a large group of adventurers to take down the Silver Snake Leader with sheer numbers?"
The old mage couldn’t help but think: Money really does make things easier!
"That’s none of your concern. Just give me the skill scroll," Su Yu urged.
"Alright, alright," the old mage grumbled, feeling a bit put off. However, he soon produced a skill scroll with crackling electric arcs and a beautifully packaged letter, handing them to Su Yu.
"Congratulations! You have completed the rare hidden quest Join the Scholar’s Sanctuary (Revised)! Rewards: Scholar’s Sanctuary Invitation x1, Lightning Chain (Excellent) skill scroll x1, 500 experience points."
Scholar’s Sanctuary Invitation: With this letter, you can join the Faction: Scholar’s Sanctuary at any of its branches in major cities.
Lightning Chain (Excellent): Throws a lightning bolt at an enemy, dealing 260% spell power as magic damage, then jumps to nearby enemies, affecting a total of three targets. There is a 30% chance to stun enemies for 1 second.
Cooldown: 8 seconds. Cast time: 1.0 second. Mana cost: 20 points.
Su Yu immediately learned the Lightning Chain skill scroll and upgraded it to rare quality.
Lightning Chain (Rare): Throws a lightning bolt at an enemy, dealing 390% spell power as magic damage, then jumps to nearby enemies, affecting a total of three targets. There is a 40% chance to stun enemies for 1 second.
Cooldown: 6 seconds. Cast time: 0.5 second. Mana cost: 30 points.
Lightning Chain could hit up to four targets, making it a very useful area-of-effect skill in the early stages.
With Lightning Chain in his arsenal, Su Yu’s leveling speed improved significantly. He no longer had to take on each monster one at a time.
As for the Scholar's Sanctuary Invitation, it can only be used once he enters the main city, so it's not needed for now.
Su Yu put the invitation back into his backpack and turned to head outside.
The old mage seemed somewhat reluctant. "Adventurer, do come back often!"
"Sure thing." Su Yu waved and stepped out of the magic cottage.
Exiting the magic cottage, he found himself on a bustling street.
Su Yu headed west toward the village, intending to start the hidden quest for the Teleportation Spell Scroll.
However, just as he was about to leave, he noticed five players walking toward him in a line.
The five of them moved with a subtle air of intimidation, and nearby players instinctively steered clear of them.
Su Yu's eyes flashed with a cold gleam as he recognized the lead middle-aged warrior, even if he were turned to ashes. It was none other than Sky Slash!
...
It turned out that Sky Slash's guild had spread their members throughout every corner of Newbie Village 006.
On one hand, they were investigating who was impersonating them to collect village fees.
On the other, they were searching for Su Yu, the high-level player known as "Counter" who had listed a large number of valuable equipment and spell scrolls.
With their vast numbers, the Sky Slash Guild had made some progress in their investigation, initially suspecting the Blood Emperor Sky Slayer Guild.
As for the second part, Sky Slash had just received intelligence that Counter had returned to the village and entered the magic cottage. So, he hurriedly gathered his team and rushed over.
Su Yu narrowed his eyes, sizing up the five members of the Sky Slash Guild.
Sky Slash, Clear Stream, Overlord, Bumblebee, and Heart's Longing.
These five were core members of the Sky Slash Guild.
Five traitors!
Su Yu suppressed the urge to instantly take down Sky Slash with a Lightning Bolt, standing still and waiting for them to speak.
Sky Slash's attitude was surprisingly sincere.
When he was about three meters away from Su Yu, he extended his hand. "Hello there, young man. I'm Sky Slash, the guild leader of Sky Slash. You must be 'Counter,' right? I'm here to sincerely invite you to join our guild."
Sky Slash reached out, hoping to shake Su Yu's hand.
But Su Yu didn't extend his hand; instead, he looked at Sky Slash coldly. "Oh? Do you think you deserve it?"
Su Yu's words immediately enraged the four players behind Sky Slash.
Overlord and Bumblebee had never been in favor of the guild leader recruiting Counter, believing that he was just a lucky ordinary player who would eventually fade into obscurity once everyone leveled up.
Now, seeing Counter's blatant disdain, the two of them were furious.
"Hey, kid! Do you even know what guild we are? And you're talking big here?"
"We're doing you a favor by inviting you into our guild. Do you really think you're that important?"
Clear Stream and Heart's Longing remained silent, but their expressions were grim, clearly not impressed by Su Yu.
Sky Slash, however, remained composed, showing no signs of displeasure. He said proudly, "When it comes to whether we deserve it, I think we certainly do."
"Our Sky Slash Guild is the largest in Magical Realm, holding over half of the records for high-level dungeons!"
"Now that we've all transitioned to Evolution, it won't be long before we become the top guild in Evolution as well!"
"So our guild is very suitable for a high-level player like you. Why don't you consider it?"
Su Yu remained silent, his expression still filled with disdain.
After Sky Slash finished speaking, Su Yu directly cast a Chain Lightning, targeting Overlord on the far left.
