Chapter 19: Father-Daughter Relationship
Chapter 19: Father-Daughter Relationship
Swish!
Alan didn't even have time to grab his food.
He sprang to his feet, standing tall, and whispered to Lin Sai, who looked bewildered:
"Lin Sai, this is Lord An Rui's daughter!"
Only then did Lin Sai react.
He turned his head, chewing on his bread, and saw a little girl in an indigo dress approaching with quick steps.
Her petite and adorable face had a pair of large, watery purple eyes, and her thin, pink lips, like flower petals, were slightly parted. She was as small and lively as a fawn in early spring, naturally evoking a sense of affection.
But on this adorable face, what was revealed was not the innocence of a young girl, but disbelief in the face of reality.
"Alan, what's going on? Answer me quickly!"
The little girl came before Alan, clenching her hands tightly, and anxiously pressed for an answer.
As the daughter of Lord An Rui, her status in the manor was naturally not low. However, she did not use this as an excuse to be spoiled and willful. Instead, she trembled, her lips quivering, as she persistently sought the truth.
"Why aren't you answering me? Speak up!"
"Miss Anna, I..."
Alan was completely flustered. Then, seeing Lin Sai on the ground, he felt like he had grabbed a life-saving straw:
"I only arrived at noon too!"
"By then, this tree had already fallen. Lin Sai was here in the morning, so he should know what happened!"
Only then did Anna notice Lin Sai on the ground.
She knew everyone in Lord's Manor, but she had never seen this young man before.
"You, hello?"
Lin Sai stood up.
Anna looked a couple of years younger than him.
But because girls mature faster, their heights were similar.
"I'm Lin Sai, Red Moon Lady's disciple. I just arrived today."
Lin Sai introduced himself, and Anna, upon hearing the name of Red Moon Lady, finally realized who he was.
She quickly bowed slightly in greeting.
But just like she had pressed Alan for answers, she also stared at Lin Sai with her deep purple eyes and asked:
"Lin Sai, do you know what happened to this tree?"
"..."
Lin Sai thought for less than a thousandth of a second before pointing out the culprit:
"It was Lord An Rui!"
"He was demonstrating the power of the War Sect and accidentally affected this area."
"..."
"Lin Sai, I understand. Thank you."
Anna shook her head, her anger, trembling, and frowning, her fists clenched, as she ran back to the manor.
Lin Sai and Alan, who remained at the scene, exchanged a glance.
The air was incredibly quiet.
It wasn't until Lin Sai realized that he should not let his healthy meal go cold that he sat down again and continued eating his lunch.
Alan, seeing this, sat back down on the ground, although he still felt a bit tense.
Alan took a few bites of his bread and then used a spoon to scoop some food from his bowl, but his mind was not on his meal. This action only resulted in him drinking some soup.
Then, Alan, unable to sit still any longer, blurted out:
"Lin Sai, did you just reveal Lord An Rui like that?"
Lin Sai seemed to find this amusing:
"Ah, I'm not lying. And aren't they father and daughter? One tree shouldn't be a big deal, right?"
Alan covered his face with his hand, as if he could already foresee the impending future.
He groaned for a while before continuing:
"You don't know about this."
"Miss Anna has always wanted to build a house for her pet, and Lord An Rui promised her. He planned to use this sturdy beech tree as a beam to build a big house. So, Miss Anna has been paying close attention to this beech tree, looking forward to when it matures, so she can build a house herself."
Oh—
This could be a disaster of unimaginable proportions.
Lin Sai realized the gravity of the situation and cautiously asked, "Anna... will she do something really 'outrageous'?"
Alan shook his head gently.
"Miss Anna is gentle and well-behaved. But she also has one very special trait—she's stubborn."
Lin Sai asked curiously, "Stubborn?"
"Yes, stubborn. Once Miss Anna sets her mind on something, she'll pursue it relentlessly, and even if she fails, she'll keep thinking about it for a long time."
Alan sighed.
"Lord An Rui has really gotten himself into a big mess this time..."
"Father, why did you cut down my tree!"
Just then, an angry shout echoed through the manor.
As the forest edge clearing was not far from the main building of the manor, Lin Sai and Alan heard this angry roar.
Soon, a voice of a father who knew he was in the wrong and was trying to placate his daughter could be heard, along with the sound of heavy footsteps on the second floor.
But compared to the daughter's angry questioning.
Besides a few phrases like "We can build the house now," "Let's do it a little earlier," and "Don't rush," An Rui's voice was barely audible.
Half an hour later.
Amidst the teenage girl's shouts of "I hate you!" and "I'll never talk to you again!" the lord's manor, which had been in chaos, quieted down.
Lin Sai and Alan were able to continue their martial technique practice.
At four in the afternoon.
The sky was getting dark over the small town in the forest.
Lin Sai checked his attribute panel.
After an afternoon of hard work, his [Basic Footwork] had reached the [Beginner] level through diligent training. His [Basic Saber Technique], which had been progressing, now had its [Experience Bar] filled by one-fifth.
Especially in personal attributes.
After a day of training, Lin Sai's strength increased from [2] to [3], and his other attributes had accumulated significantly!
"Lin Sai, let's stop here for today," Alan suggested, signaling the end of their practice.
"Yeah, I should head back too," Lin Sai nodded.
He did a few simple stretches to relax his body and then sat on a tree stump to rest.
He planned to bid farewell to An Rui after his stamina recovered. During this time, Alan stood by his side, specifically instructing him, "Remember to practice in your free time. My mentor once told me that perseverance is the best path to becoming stronger."
Lin Sai smiled and naturally promised not to slack off.
The two had trained together all day.
While they couldn't be called close as brothers, their relationship was already quite good.
However, at that moment, a figure appeared at the back gate of the manor.
It was the lord of the Hidden Frontier.
The father, with a worried frown, approached Lin Sai and Alan in the forest edge clearing.
"Lin Sai, I have a favor to ask of you."
An Rui looked directly at Lin Sai, and Lin Sai naturally couldn't refuse. "I'm willing to serve you."
Only then did An Rui speak, "According to the previous agreement with Crimson Moon, you should be going to Finn's place to learn tomorrow."
"Help me bring him over, and say we need to save this beech tree."
Why would a father who cared so much about his daughter leave this matter for tomorrow? Lin Sai was a bit puzzled.
"If that's the case, why not go tonight?"
Alan was right beside him, also wanting to give instructions, so An Rui directly explained, "Finn is old. Let him rest well tonight."
"And just yesterday, your mentor told me that there might be beasts roaming around the town."
"We can't be careless about this. I'll take some men to check it out later."
