Chapter 189: Thoughts of Peaches
Chapter 189: Thoughts of Peaches
Natsu and Happy returned to the guild.
It was already the season when the lake started to freeze, and Natsu had crashed through the thin ice layer and fallen into the cold water.
When they returned to the guild, his clothes were still wet.
Out of sympathy, Roder asked, "Do you want to take a bath and change into dry clothes?"
"Huh?" Natsu looked puzzled, then suddenly his entire body burst into flames like a Super Saiyan, and his clothes and hair dried completely in just a few seconds.
The Fire Dragon Slayer Magic was really convenient; no fear of heat in summer or cold in winter.
Roder waved his hand, "Forget I said anything."
"Natsu is so unfair," Happy complained. "He fell into the water and didn't even help us catch fish."
"..." Roder was speechless. I thought you were worried about him, but you just wanted him to catch fish for you.
"I didn’t mean to fall in! That Erza...," Natsu grumbled, but he quickly became nervous. Although it wasn’t intentional, he was the one who moved first.
He looked at Roder with admiration, "It’s amazing that you can team up with Erza."
Mira finished her work and asked curiously, "Really? How was it, teaming up with Erza?"
Roder thought back to the scene in his dream where Mira had slapped him away. He felt her smile now was a death smile.
Speaking of which, Natsu's experience was almost identical to the scene in his dream. If Erza could do it, Mira might be able to as well.
No, no, no, that's impossible.
Roder pondered for a moment and said, "Overall, she’s a very reliable partner, especially in a fight."
Natsu nodded in agreement. If Erza was on his side during a fight, she was definitely super reliable.
Roder recalled the scene, "Whether it’s offense or defense, she’s exceptionally strong... I felt like the fight was over before I even got to participate."
"Huh? That’s terrible!" Natsu was shocked. Teaming up with Erza and not even getting to fight?
Roder didn’t understand what Natsu meant by "terrible" but heard him firmly declare, "I will never team up with Erza again!"
Mira thought for a moment and asked, "What if Erza invites you, would you refuse?"
"I, I... of course..." Natsu’s flames died down. Of course, he wouldn’t dare refuse.
Roder watched Mira. He learned how to quiet down a spirited Natsu with just a few words.
After Natsu and Happy left, Mira continued, "What about outside of battles? Did you notice that Erza’s personality is actually quite cute?"
"Okay, I guess..." Roder mused for a moment, then smiled, "But thinking about all my team experiences, the most enjoyable one was definitely with Miss Mira."
"Is that so?" Mira smiled sweetly, "Then, would you like to team up again?"
"Sure, let’s team up for training after work today, go shopping tomorrow, and have dinner together the day after..."
Roder suddenly realized, "Wait, come to think of it, aren’t we already teaming up every day in the guild?"
Mira laughed, "I don’t think the word ‘team’ is used that way. Want to look it up in a dictionary?"
Roder teased her, "That’s not how ‘team’ is used."
Mira covered her mouth and giggled.
Roder felt this woman was getting mischievous, intentionally mimicking his old way of speaking to tease him.
Please be a little more mischievous.
After work that day, Roder threw himself into his daily training with great enthusiasm.
Not because Mira was with him, but because he truly felt the benefits of his increased magic power.
If my magic power were sufficient, I could wave my hand and send out a hundred weapons like Erza, turning the Requip Magic into a King's Treasury or Unlimited Blade Works.
Moreover, the high rewards for high-difficulty missions are just too tempting. If I keep doing tasks that pay a few tens of thousands, it would take years of hard work to settle down in Magnolia.
But with a few million per mission, I could buy a nice house in just a few months.
— Or maybe I should just move in with the Strauss family; Mira is quite the little rich girl with a house and savings...
"What are you thinking about?"
Peaches (not really).
"I’m thinking about my next training goal."
"Could it be that you feel more pressured after understanding Erza’s strength?" Mira asked, "You seem to be training more vigorously today."
"Um... maybe because I saw some cruel things." Roder recalled the murdered townsfolk, "I suddenly realized that this world is different from what I imagined, so I need to get stronger."
At first, Roder thought everything was dangerous, and leaving the town could easily get you trampled by wild beasts, so it was best not to go out.
Later, after learning magic and becoming stronger, he occasionally took on missions. The cheerful atmosphere in the guild and the peaceful, prosperous life in Magnolia made him feel that the outside world wasn’t that dangerous.
After all, this was supposed to be a world with a happy ending, and life here seemed much calmer than the worlds of One Piece or Naruto that he was familiar with.
However, the recent Dark Magic Cult mission, the previous bandit extermination mission, and the mission to arrest a dark guild made Roder realize that Magnolia’s prosperity and stability might be due to the presence of Fairy Tail.
In remote villages without magic guilds, life wasn’t necessarily as good. There were many dangerous individuals always plotting in the shadows, even willing to sacrifice human lives to summon demons.
Roder didn’t have any grand ambitions to change the world; that was something for the king to consider.
He just needed to get stronger and protect the people he cared about.
Currently, there were about a hundred people Roder wanted to protect, and he knew that these people had always been protecting him as well.
...
The next morning, Roder came to the guild on time.
Mira noticed that his mood seemed a bit off.
"Is something wrong?" she asked while wiping a cup.
Roder said unhappily, "My son is dying."
Crack~ The wooden beer mug was cracked by Mira’s grip, but she put it down without changing her expression, "Son?"
"Yes, I have three potted plants on the balcony. I usually take care of them like they’re my sons and even talk to them sometimes."
Roder said sadly, "But I couldn’t take care of them these past few days, and when I got back last night, they were all wilted."
"..." Mira let out a long breath. So he was treating the plants like his sons.
Roder had some rather peculiar hobbies.
— Keeping plants isn’t strange, but calling them sons...
But there are people who treat their plants like children, so it shouldn’t be that weird, right?
Mira thought for a moment and suggested, "Why don’t you ask Troy for help?"
"Right, he loves fiddling with plants. I’ll go back!" Roder ran out of the guild in a flash.
Mira wrinkled her nose and took out the attendance sheet.
To make it sound so scary just because the plants are sick, hmph, I’ll mark him as absent.
A few seconds later, Mira crossed out the record. It was just a short trip, not serious enough to be marked as absent.
And he did tell me before leaving, so I’ll let it slide.
