Chapter 189: The Floating Island's Nuclear Apocalypse
Chapter 189: The Floating Island's Nuclear Apocalypse
Planet Skrul.
The transport ship, returning from a mission, crossed the spatial rift, trailing a long plume of fire as it approached a massive floating island in the sky.
This floating island was a temporary artificial construct built by the Skrul Federation for the war effort, covering an area of about 50 square kilometers and hovering approximately 1,500 meters above the ground.
The floating island served as a transit hub and the largest storage facility for psychic energy canisters, crucial for the Skrul's war efforts.
The reason for building this floating island here was simple: all of Planet Skrul's spatial rifts were concentrated in this area. The planet was connected to Earth through over 3,700 spatial rifts, which were evenly distributed on Earth but converged in this single region on Skrul.
Surrounding the floating island, the 3,700 spatial rifts were densely packed. Every twenty to thirty seconds, a ship would emerge from one of the rifts, delivering canisters filled with psychic energy to the transit station on the floating island.
The system had been running smoothly for the past few days, but today, something seemed amiss.
A transport ship emerged from the Lingwu Mountain spatial rift, but this was not the scheduled return time. It was half an hour early.
The command center on the floating island immediately sent a message to the ship: "Calling T-036 transport ship pilot, why are you returning early? Why are you returning early?"
But after waiting for half a minute, they received no response.
They sent the message again: "Calling T-036 transport ship pilot, why are you returning early? Why are you returning early?"
Again, there was no response.
The pilot of T-036 had been put into a deep coma by Su Yu's "Mind Blast" before leaving Earth, and the ship was now flying on autopilot toward the floating island.
The command center, sensing something was wrong, quickly issued an interception order.
"Calling A-363 and A-364 attack ships, intercept T-036 transport ship, intercept—"
But before they could finish the order, the Skrul in the command center saw a blinding, fiery light outside the window.
Then, the command center was gone.
BOOM!
In the intense explosion, the command center was instantly reduced to rubble.
The "Tine-3" missile was the Skrul's latest psychic energy missile, with a yield comparable to a tactical nuclear missile on Earth, about 10,000 tons of TNT. Thirty of these missiles detonated simultaneously in the sky, but their combined power was not particularly great.
However, the location of the explosions was catastrophic.
After emerging from the spatial rift, the ship was only a few kilometers from the floating island. After a minute of flight, it was almost "glued" to the island.
The island was also packed with numerous psychic energy canisters, which contained highly compressed, pure energy.
Thus, the simultaneous detonation of the thirty missiles was like dropping a lit match into a hay bale.
BOOM!
The initial explosion triggered a chain reaction among the psychic energy canisters. Soon, a beautiful mushroom cloud rose above the floating island.
The mushroom cloud shot into the sky, and all the facilities on the island were obliterated in a matter of seconds.
Directly below the floating island was a massive Skrul city—Trenar.
Trenar was one of the most important central cities in the Skrul Federation.
On that day, Skrul pedestrians walking the streets noticed a blinding light overhead, far brighter than the midday sun! Squinting up at the sky, they were horrified to see:
The psychic energy arrays beneath the floating island had failed, and the massive structure was plummeting from the sky, growing larger and larger as it approached.
The scene shifted back to the psychic energy spring at Lingwu Mountain on Earth.
Chapter End
Not long after the floating island was annihilated, the spatial rift above the Spring Eye began to flash violently, followed by a massive ejection of ash and debris infused with Spiritual Energy.
Commander Skaru of the Skaru Fleet noticed the anomaly in the sky, looking up towards the rift. Perplexed by its state, he furrowed his brow.
"What's happening? Why is Spiritual Energy leaking out?"
Just then, his female secretary approached with a file folder: "Commander, the humans of Blue Star are exhibiting abnormal behavior."
"What behavior?" The commander turned to his secretary, diverting his gaze.
"We've detected numerous armed helicopters heading our way, now less than ten kilometers away."
"Armed helicopters?" The commander paused, taken aback.
He swiftly responded, "Continue monitoring, determine their intentions."
"Understood, Commander."
……
Just then, a faint voice echoed through the air beside them: "I think you won't need to."
"Who's there?!" Commander Skaru jumped, instinctively reaching for his Spiritual Energy Gun at his waist.
But his hand halted midway.
"Baa~"
Su Yu's Sheep Transformation Technique took effect, transforming Commander Skaru into a cute sheep.
Su Yu then unleashed Inferno Blast, a truck-sized fireball that struck the sheep with immense force.
As a mere Fourth-Stage warrior, Commander Skaru was no match for Su Yu, a Sixth-Stage powerhouse.
Boom!
A deafening explosion rocked the area, creating a massive crater where Commander Skaru and his secretary stood, vaporizing them both.
A Fourth-Stage commander, effortlessly defeated.
Simultaneously, the entire Skaru Base erupted in alarms!
Dispersed Skaru soldiers, especially high-ranking officers, quickly received news of their commander's demise and the intruder's approximate intel.
"Warning! Warning! Major infiltration event within the base!"
"Intruder identified as a Blue Star human, preliminary assessment: Sixth-Stage warrior, exercise caution."
"Warning! Warning! Major infiltration event within the base..."
The relentless alarms stunned all Skaru personnel!
How could a Sixth-Stage warrior emerge among Blue Star humans?!
According to pre-war data, Blue Star's Spiritual Energy had long been depleted, with their strongest warriors barely reaching Fourth-Stage peak, and in extremely limited numbers.
Even with the Cloud Ridge Mountain Spring Eye, Blue Star humans couldn't possibly recover to Sixth-Stage within a couple of months. Who was this infiltrating Sixth-Stage Blue Star human?!
But they dared not ponder further.
Their base could handle Fifth-Stage warriors, but not Sixth-Stage ones.
Upon receiving the alarm, a single thought dominated every Skaru mind — Escape!
The base's Skaru personnel rushed towards the outer docking bays, seeking to flee via the large spacecraft. However, upon boarding, they discovered the situation was far more dire than imagined.
The two pilots of each spacecraft had mysteriously vanished!
Without pilots or command authorization, they couldn't initiate the spacecraft. With pilots missing and their commander sacrificed, what could they do?
