Chapter 189: The Arrival of the Seven Sages!
Chapter 189: The Arrival of the Seven Sages!
"Long ago, I said that only by showing strength can we make humans agree to retreat."
A deep, shadowy voice echoed, and one of the Seven Sages of the Demon King's Castle slowly emerged from the fortress.
He was an ordinary-looking demon, standing out among his strikingly beautiful companions. His pale face exuded an aura of someone who had long been out of the sunlight, and his body was enveloped in a decaying stench.
Swish!
Like a bolt of lightning, the Sword Hero's speed was so fast that no one could react. The ground cracked in large patches with his movements, and the air whistled as he swung his precious sword at the white-haired demon.
The Sword Hero, Phis, was renowned for his strength that rivaled the top warriors and his speed that surpassed them.
Clang—
In the Sword Hero's incredulous eyes, a pale, frail finger rose, covered in a thin membrane. The mountain-splitting blow had no effect on this layer.
"Is this the strongest warrior now? Pathetic and laughable."
The white-haired demon's tone was cold, and his disappointment was evident.
"This is impossible!"
Phis abruptly stepped back, returning to his team. His earlier carelessness vanished, and he found it hard to believe such a disparity existed.
While his ambush wasn't at full strength, he hadn't held back at all.
If all the great demons were at this level...
He glanced at the six motionless figures in the city, cold sweat drenching his body.
"Don't be fooled. That demon is just using a barrier spell to block your attack."
Cian gripped his magic staff. "He must be the great demon who cast the barrier over the Demon King's Castle. That barrier is indeed powerful, and I can't break it either."
"You're right, unknown mage. I only used a barrier spell, and that's all I know."
The white-haired demon glanced at Cian, pointing towards the sky. A massive canopy formed at an incredible speed, enveloping everything around the Demon King's Castle.
Everyone's faces changed dramatically. A barrier of this strength covering such a wide area was completely illogical.
"My favorite thing is to trap a group of people in a barrier, watch them fight each other for air, food, and water, just to survive a little longer."
The white-haired demon spoke calmly. "Do you know what people do in such situations? Your human imagination is truly boundless, and the things you do are beyond my comprehension."
"I am one of the Seven Sages, the Undying Beze. Try to break my barrier if you think you can."
"Attack together! A massive barrier must have weaknesses!"
Phis raised his sword and shouted. The army commander, looking grim, ordered the entire army to spread out and attack to find weaknesses.
Originally, the army was just support, and the Hero Squad was the main force for the Demon King's extermination. They didn't expect to have to act so soon.
Following the leaders' commands, the Demon King extermination team scattered, launching various attacks at the barrier, creating dazzling sparks.
Support spells were layered on the Hero Squad members. The monk, Abu, looked serious. When the barrier enveloped them, even the protection of the goddess weakened. The Seven Sages' magic was truly incomprehensible.
Cian's figure flickered in the air and disappeared, using a concealment spell to erase his presence.
Feeling lighter, Phis moved quickly, searching for an opportunity. The impatient warrior, Baska, charged at Beze with his massive axe the moment the support spell ended.
Baska's strength, enhanced by the monk's goddess magic, was even greater than Phis's. He roared and swung his axe at Beze, who remained cold and raised his finger to block.
Boom—
This time, the membrane showed the tiniest, almost imperceptible cracks at maximum force. As Baska's strength waned, the membrane began to repair itself.
Boom—
A well-coordinated strike followed, and Phis precisely hit the newly formed crack. The double attack succeeded in cutting Beze's finger, and a few drops of blood slowly trickled down.
The two, having achieved this minor victory, immediately planned to retreat, but the enemy wasn't about to let them go so easily.
A transparent barrier expanded, and Phis, prepared for this, barely managed to escape using his speed. Baska, however, was trapped inside.
Beze looked at his pale, bleeding finger, his tone cold. "If I hadn't been distracted by the size of the barrier, you wouldn't have even scratched me."
"Don't be too harsh, Beze. It's because your barrier is unbreakable that you are called 'Undying,' isn't it?"
A second demon emerged from the city, a petite pink-haired girl holding a scale in her left hand.
"I think this warrior is quite good, and so is the Sword Hero."
Light condensed into arrows in the sky, and the hidden Cian swung his staff, launching a surprise attack on the pink-haired demon.
"Judgment Light Magic!"
Using the fastest attack magic from an unexpected angle, though it would expose his position, taking out one opponent would be worth it.
A swift figure darted past, and the Sword Hero, Phis, stood in front of the pink-haired demon, taking the hit.
"Phis!"
Cian cried out in shock, unable to understand why his companion would shield a demon.
The pink-haired demon raised her scale, placing a black and white sphere of magic on it. The tray holding the black magic sank, seeming heavier.
"Balance Scale, my magic can materialize both sides' magic. The one with more magic power will gain control over the other."
Phis stood frozen in fear, and the pink-haired demon took his ornate sword, then skillfully swung it at his head.
Thud—
Blood spurted, and the head of the strongest hero fell to the ground with a dull thud.
The army, which had been attacking the barrier without any success, fell silent for a few seconds.
"There's no way, the Hero... is dead? That was Fise!"
"How could he be so powerful!"
"There's no chance of winning. We've been tricked, run!"
The scene began to descend into chaos. Even the army commanders shouting orders to stop the panic were useless. Everyone used their most powerful techniques to attack the barrier, desperately trying to escape.
But whether it was powerful magic attacks or heavy slashes and chops, the thin barrier held firm, unyielding to any assault.
"I am Aura, one of the Seven Sages, the Guillotine Aura."
The pink-haired magic user, who had defeated the Sword Hero, spoke her name with a smile.
"Don't think I'm cruel. Strong-willed warriors can still resist my magic to some extent. However, this Sword Hero is not one of them. To be safe, I'll just cut off his head."
Her gaze shifted to Saien, "You seem to be a talented magic user too, to have such power at your age."
Saien unleashed his magic, sweat beading on his forehead, "You won't control me. My magic power can match that of a hundred-year-old magic user."
Aura praised him, "Truly an incredible talent!"
Her smile widened, "Unfortunately, I am a magic user over four hundred years old."
Magic far stronger than Saien's erupted from Aura, like a peacock spreading its feathers or a monk displaying his status. The magic user proudly showed her strength to her companions.
The Balance of Dominion took effect again, and Saien felt his body slow down, his consciousness blurring.
A pure white attack spell struck Aura's Balance, though it didn't cause any real damage, it successfully interrupted the control magic.
Abu, the monk, rushed over to grab Saien and fled. Having seen Vasaka trapped and Fise turned into a puppet, he realized they had severely underestimated the power of the magic users. Their only option was to escape!
Trapped in the barrier, Vasaka's face turned blue as he struggled. The barrier was too small, and he quickly suffocated. He swung his axe wildly, but his best effort only left a white scratch.
The intense struggle accelerated his death. The human's strongest warrior, who had dared to challenge the strongest magic user, died in despair, suffocated and then decapitated by Aura, who reanimated the body.
Seeing his two teammates' corpses charging towards him and Abu, Saien felt his mind on the verge of breaking, mumbling incoherently.
"Am I dreaming?"
"If you wish, I can grant you a blissful eternal sleep."
A detached male voice sounded from ahead, and another striking male magic user stood there, his gaze empty.
"One of the Seven Sages, the Miracle Grasam."
"Let me grant you a beautiful miracle."
With Grasam's words, dreamlike petals appeared before Saien and Abu.
Time and space seemed to warp.
"President, it's your turn to speak. Please guide us."
Saien's eyes snapped open, finding himself seated at the highest position in the Magic Association, with countless esteemed magic users below.
He saw his mentor Zane, the father of modern magic, Luke, the originator of human magic, Flame, and even the ancient elf Selia, who represented the pinnacle of magic.
All the powerful and respected magic users looked at him expectantly, waiting for his guidance.
"Am I... the president of the Magic Association?"
All the magic users spoke in unison, "Of course, you always have been."
...
Abu, drenched in cold sweat, knelt on the ground, watching Saien fall with a strange smile on his face.
"Truly impressive, you resisted my magic."
Grasam seemed to take a bit of interest in Abu, "It must be the protection of a goddess. I'm beginning to believe in the existence of a goddess."
"You won't succeed. Stronger heroes and armies will soon mature. With our example, they will be more cautious and won't fall for your tricks!"
"We said we wanted a peaceful negotiation from the beginning. You refused and attacked."
Abu gritted his teeth, glaring at the magic user. He suddenly felt his body losing sensation from the neck down.
He looked down in confusion, seeing his body gradually turning golden.
Abu forced out his final words.
"The strongest of the Seven Sages, the Golden Land Mahat."
A tall magic user wearing a cloak on his right shoulder approached. Mahat watched as Abu turned into a golden statue, then turned and walked away as if it were a trivial matter.
Beze clenched his fingers, and the barrier began to shrink, returning the helpless army to the front of the Demon King's castle.
Compared to the slightly resistant Hero Squad, the army had been completely ineffective, not even serving as cannon fodder.
The Seven Sages were a different breed altogether, not something that could be overwhelmed by numbers.
They had made a grave mistake.
The petite and beautiful high magic user Solitaire smiled again.
"First, please understand that we only dealt with the Hero Squad in self-defense."
The commander swallowed hard, nodding with difficulty, "I understand."
"Can we now resume our negotiations?"
"Yes."
"You can relax. We haven't harmed anyone else besides the Hero Squad, have we?"
Solitaire smiled, her lips moving slightly, "Rest assured, the peace treaty is simpler than you think."
"We want nothing."
