Chapter 188: Dimensional Demon God (First Update)
Chapter 188: Dimensional Demon God (First Update)
It turned out that Jane was a doctoral graduate in astrophysics from Columbia University in New York. She had temporarily rented a house in Old Bridge Town to study the peculiar celestial phenomena discovered in New Mexico.
Daisy, a student about to graduate from the same university, was her female assistant. She initially came to help mainly for house points.
As for Professor Eric, he was originally in New York but had come to Old Bridge Town at Jane's invitation to assist with her research.
Now, Thor's appearance and the existence of Bifrost had provided an alternative explanation for the astrophysical phenomena she was studying. However, her research findings, involving Asgard, could not be published.
Therefore, she planned to pack up, return her rental, and go back to Columbia University in New York.
Thor, who was currently in the throes of passionate romance, would naturally follow her.
Jerry took the note, glanced at the address, and instantly memorized the number. He smiled and nodded.
"That's great. I'm in New York too, so we'll be closer. If you're free, we can get together more often!"
Since Thor was also in New York, it would be easier to find him for trips to Asgard.
Jerry actually enjoyed spending time with Thor. With Thor's brain, even if he lied, Thor wouldn't notice. This meant he didn't have to be as careful or put in as much effort when speaking.
Moreover, Thor was the only one on Earth who knew his true identity. When with Thor, he didn't have to hide it.
Most importantly, Thor was strong. If they encountered any formidable opponents, having Thor as a super-strong shield would greatly increase his safety.
A strong shield, a free enforcer, and a human transport, Jerry couldn't help but feel fondness for Thor.
As Jerry said goodbye to Thor and Jane, a S.H.I.E.L.D. supersonic plane appeared in the sky over Old Bridge Town.
"Alright, I'm off. See you in New York!"
Jerry waved to the two of them and flew toward the S.H.I.E.L.D. plane in the sky.
"See you in New York!"
Thor, holding Jane, waved back to Jerry as he flew away.
With that, Jerry's mission in New Mexico was officially over.
Although it had been tough, the rewards were substantial.
"So, this world's Magic is like this!"
Three weeks had passed since returning from New Mexico. Jerry had focused his efforts on the magic books he had obtained from Asgard.
Through continuous study and research, he finally had a basic understanding of the magic in this world.
It turned out that all the mages in this world did not use their own magic power. Instead, they borrowed it from higher-dimensional entities like the Dimensional Demon God or the World Tree, using it to cast various spells.
They were different from Jerry. Jerry, through his Wizard Bloodline and Meditation Technique, converted external energy into a unique magic power, which he stored in his body and then released in various forms.
In contrast, all the mages in this world could not store magic power within their bodies. They had to borrow it from powerful entities in higher dimensions through various means, such as leasing or signing contracts, to cast their spells.
This borrowing came at a cost. Each time they used borrowed power, they would have to spend more time repaying it later.
However, the principles of magic were the same. The application and understanding of magic were not much different. When reading the Asgard magic books, Jerry found the theories on Illusion, Transformation, and Spatial magic particularly enlightening.
In other words, the Magic from Asgard that Jerry has learned can still be used, but he needs to make some minor adjustments. Instead of borrowing magic power from the World Tree, he needs to channel the magic power from within his own body. This way, it will work just fine.
It sounds simple, but making these adjustments is no small feat. Any fully developed Magic requires significant effort to modify and still maintain stable casting.
Fortunately, he has some experience with this. His previous work on creating the Dragonfire Spell and optimizing various other Magics can now come in handy.
After giving it some thought, Jerry suddenly realized something.
He and the Dimensional Demon God of this world are quite similar, though the Dimensional Demon God's strength and the amount of magic power in his body far surpass what Jerry currently possesses.
However, they both have their own sources of power and strengthen themselves by absorbing external forces.
Perhaps, when he becomes powerful enough, he can also lease his magic power to others and have them return it doubled or even tripled. This would be much faster than practicing Meditation Techniques on his own.
At worst, he could charge a lower interest rate.
For now, though, it's just a thought. After all, the Dimensional Demon God, according to the magic books of Asgard, is a being that transcends dimensions and is immortal.
This immortality isn't just about living forever; it means that they cannot be killed by any means. They can be defeated, imprisoned, or driven away, but they cannot be completely destroyed.
Especially in their own dimensions, they are incredibly powerful.
As for Jerry, well, if he doesn't dodge, a single bullet to the head could end his life.
But at least he has the potential to become a Dimensional Demon God; he just needs time.
"Three weeks have passed, it's about time to ask Thor to take me back to Asgard!"
In the morning, in the classroom, Jerry closed his magic book and cast a Disillusionment Charm to leave the room quietly.
It was the first day back from the Christmas break, and Jerry was using Magic to skip class again.
Over the past three weeks, Jerry had read through most of the magic books he brought back from Asgard.
However, given the significant differences in the Magic systems, there were many things he still couldn't understand on his own.
So, he decided to have Thor take him to Asgard to find Queen Frigga. After all, Thor had been bored ever since he came to New York.
At the ninth floor of the faculty residence building at Columbia University,
Jerry dispelled the Disillusionment Charm and knocked on the window.
Through the window, he could see Thor, dressed in his pajamas, happily drinking beer, eating cheese, and watching TV. Surprisingly, he was watching Friends.
"Hey, Jerry, you're here! Want to have a beer?"
Seeing Jerry outside the window on his broom, Thor quickly got up from the sofa, laughing, and ran over to open the window.
"Thor, I told you, don't use my real name on Earth!"
Jerry jumped into the living room through the window and reminded Thor, somewhat exasperated.
This guy is really not that reliable.
"Don't worry, buddy, I remember. It's just you and me here!"
Thor chugged an entire bottle of beer.
