Chapter 187: The Battlefield Turns Chaotic
Chapter 187: The Battlefield Turns Chaotic
The plan had been to bury Whitebeard within the Encirclement Wall—so much so that even Oz had been cut down to prevent the giant from supporting him. What Whitebeard hadn’t anticipated was that ship.
The moment he was engulfed by seawater, that very vessel seemed to be within it as well. Through its coated membrane, the seawater lost its threat. As for the ice? It couldn’t stop Whitebeard’s shockwave.
“He actually broke through?” Sengoku’s face darkened. “Damn it! If he reaches the plaza, things will get even worse!”
“After such meticulous planning… truly remarkable,” Garp muttered.
“If he tears through the Encirclement Wall, that wall itself might become our greatest obstacle,” Sengoku replied grimly.
“Finally inside!!”
The coated membrane of the ship cracked open, and pirates raised their Weapons in triumphant cheers.
“Gururururururururu! Ace, your head’s still attached, I see!” Whitebeard leapt from the ship, casting a glance at Ace atop the execution platform. Gripping his nitoryu, he yanked it backward. “Wait—just a moment! I’ll get you out!”
A shockwave rippled from the nitoryu as he swung it fiercely.
Boom!!
A colossal shockwave erupted across Marineford. The force blew away all Navy forces in the front, save for a few Vice Admirals, sending them crashing into the collapsing buildings.
“Charge!!”
The pirates seized the cleared path, surging forward.
On the execution platform, the Three Admirals extended their palms, using Haki to resist the shockwave.
Elsewhere, another force countered similarly.
Kuro appeared on Marineford’s left, his blade flashing golden lightning. With one slash, he split the shockwave in two—the split surging toward the Grand Line, triggering tsunamis, while the other half tore through Marineford, obliterating structures.
Yet the buildings behind him remained intact.
Because his home lay in that direction.
He clicked his tongue, biting his cigar as he exhaled smoke. “This complicates things.”
But this was no longer his concern—his role was nearly complete. Charging recklessly now might mark him as Whitebeard’s target, and he’d gain nothing from that. Even blocking a single strike at the Encirclement Wall had left him aching.
Now it was the Admirals’ turn.
Whoosh!
As he thought this, sand erupted beside him, hurtling toward him.
Clang!
Kuro instinctively raised his blade to block the attack of a golden hook.
“Crocodile.”
Kuro’s eyes widened. “What do you want? Don’t you want Whitebeard’s head?”
“Shut up. I’m in a terrible mood already. That golden slash in Arabasta—was that you?” Crocodile growled.
Kuro had wielded his Black Blade before, but that wispslash against Jinbei confirmed it.
The mysterious swordsman in Arabasta who’d nearly shattered his mind in Rainbase—and the one who’d landed the final blow—was this man!
“Arabasta? Never been there.”
Kuro slashed, sending Crocodile cleaving in two.
“Don’t lie! Desert Blade!”
Crocodile’s half-body filled with sand. His arm extended, sandification morphing into a cleaver striking toward Kuro.
Kuro sidestepped the wispslash. The sand struck the ground, spreading along the surface to carve a massive, smooth gash.
“Ah, how terrifying.”
Kuro gritted his teeth. His blade surged with Haki as he struck, but Crocodile, ready, evaded effortlessly with Observation Haki.
This time, Kuro’s fear was genuine.
He never underestimated the Seven Warlords of the Sea. He knew their “weakling” reputation was a lie—their decades-long dominance stemmed from undefeated legacies.
Even if Luffy had beaten Crocodile by luck, his power was no joke. A single misstep could leave him mummified.
Strong men fought through endurance. Crocodile’s level demanded patience—there was no instant victory. Crocodile clearly held reserves, his physical strength intact. Now fully focused on Kuro, landing a hit would be no simple feat.
The Navy and pirates clashed anew, their ferocity eclipsing the earlier skirmish on the ice. Captains now held nothing back, charging their full power into the fray.
Whitebeard prepared another strike when Kuzan suddenly appeared, freezing him. Yet the ice shattered instantly under the shockwave, along with Kuzan’s body.
“That won’t work!”
Kuzan gripped the nitoryu’s hilt, frost spreading rapidly. Ice spears materialized beside him.
Bang!
A dazzling wisp struck him, scattering his body into chunks across the battlefield, reforming moments later.
“‘Diamond’ Jozu.”
Kuzan’s face darkened, blood trickling from his lips.
That blow had been Haki-inflicted.
“Gururururururururu! Ice brat! My son isn’t so easily handled!”
Whitebeard laughed, lunging forward with the nitoryu for another strike.
Bang!
A foot blocked his blade.
Akainu’s hands in his pockets, he declared, “Let you run wild longer, and this island won’t survive.”
“Then try stopping me, Lava Brat!” Whitebeard roared.
“Ace, hold on!!”
Marco, nearly healed, transformed into the Phoenix, soaring skyward.
“Oh~ Marco.”
Lucius Kro raised an eyebrow, firing multiple Lasers at Marco. But in Phoenix form, the Lasers were meaningless.
“That regeneration ability… truly terrifying. Are you heading to rescue the prisoner?” Lucius Kro mused.
As Marco approached the execution platform, Garp intercepted him with a heavy punch, slamming him downward.
“Garp!”
Sengoku exclaimed, “No one forced your hand. This was your choice.”
“Enough talk, old man. I’m still Navy.”
Garp landed below the execution platform, standing in the central Admiral’s position. “To pass here, you’ll have to kill this old man first, brats!”
“Even Garp’s stepping in?”
Lucius Kro appeared before Marco, extending a finger. “This old man won’t let you pass.”
On the execution platform, Sengoku surveyed the chaos, his face grim.
Akainu faced Whitebeard.
Kuzan was countered by Jozu.
Lucius Kro blocked Marco.
And Kuro, the decisive force, was tied down by that crocodile bastard.
The battle situation was dire. The pirates surged with momentum, their numbers fewer but fiercer. Prolonging the fight would only escalate Navy losses.
Rolling up his sleeve, Sengoku declared, “Looks like I’ll have to step in myself.”
