Chapter 187: Regigigas: Let's Move! Let's Move Out Now!
Chapter 187: Regigigas: Let's Move! Let's Move Out Now!
Naoki furrowed his brows, gazing at the tiny sprout before him as he pondered the situation.
It was evident that the strange seeds had undergone a transformation due to the energy from the riding goat's Grass-type moves, and the [Grass Cake] had played a significant role as well.
But why on earth was its growth period so long?! Had it truly been ten millennia since Arceus created the world?
What kind of plant would require such an extended growth period? Naoki quickly ran through his mental catalog of renowned plants in this world.
Revival Grass, Grassy Flower, Eternal Flower...
No, the Eternal Flower was a flower stamen, so it didn't count as a plant per se.
Aside from those, it seemed that only the World-Beginning Tree remained a possibility.
Naoki's mind conjured up the image of the ancient tree from the movies, towering amidst the majestic mountains, its peak reaching for the heavens.
The massive tree's interior was unique, akin to a complex maze, fostering a distinct ecosystem where many Pokemon made their homes.
No one knew its origins or how long it had taken to grow into its majestic form. Mew considered it home, and Regice, Regirock, and Registeel willingly served as its guardians, driving away any intruding humans.
Some believed it wasn't a true tree but rather a formation of rock layers resembling a tree, while others theorized that it was a tree whose branches and trunk had gradually petrified over its lengthy growth process.
Naoki's heart skipped a beat as he wondered if his riding goat had somehow managed to grow Mew's home.
No wonder there hadn't been any mutated crops for over a month now. That rascal had been secretly brewing something big!
Naoki contemplated the image of the World-Beginning Tree, then glanced down at the sprout before him, which was smaller than his pinky fingernail. He couldn't fathom how these two could possibly be the same.
He desperately wanted to know what kind of plant this was.
However, it was clear that unless he employed some extraordinary means, he wouldn't live to see it in his lifetime.
After some contemplation, Naoki's gaze fell upon the shrine of Regigigas, which he had been devoutly tending to.
If anyone else possessed such an ability, it would undoubtedly be Regigigas. Without hesitation, Naoki rushed to the shrine and offered incense.
"Regigigas-sama! Your humble follower is in need of assistance! I promise to offer you an endless supply of Grass Dumplings as tribute!"
Far away in the Galar region, Regigigas remained silent, sensing the plea of its devoted follower.
Another heavy snowfall blanketed the Crown Tundra, transforming the landscape into a white wonderland, with deep snow piling on the ground.
Usually, during this time of year, Regigigas would be in a state of slumber due to its frail physical condition.
However, things had been different over the past few months.
With the devout assistance of its faithful follower, a steady stream of faith energy had been flowing into its body. Although it was still far from its peak strength, Regigigas could now harness some of its powers.
Regigigas was filled with gratitude for this development.
It thought to itself that this little follower was exceptionally devout. While others had forgotten about it, this lone individual had done so much in its name.
Not only that, but the little follower had also selflessly continued to spread its name without expecting anything in return.
The surroundings were bitterly cold, but Regigigas's heart was warm with appreciation.
This was the first time the little follower had asked for its help.
"I will surely help you," Regigigas resolved.
It mustered its strength, focusing its psychic powers to pay heed to the matter at hand.
It noticed that its follower had placed a large number of Berries in front of its shrine, almost to the point of overflowing. A few Berries rolled onto the grassy ground beside the shrine, and the follower quickly picked them up and placed them back on top.
"Do you care for me so much?" Regigigas murmured to itself.
Since that was the case, it was determined to do something in return.
A sapling? You wish for the sapling to reach maturity? Regigigas thought that this was still a simple task for it.
Regigigas concentrated, eventually locating the sapling its follower had mentioned, nestled among a cluster of dirt on the ranch.
It observed that three sheep Pokemon were gathered around the sapling.
Regigigas paid them no mind and gracefully raised its right hand, harnessing its power to accelerate the growth of the sapling.
Initially, Regigigas didn't sense anything amiss.
However, as its stored energy was rapidly depleted, and the sapling showed no signs of change, Regigigas finally realized something was wrong.
Hmm? What is this thing? Why is it so... so draining?! Regigigas's usually stoic countenance now betrayed a hint of astonishment.
Meanwhile, Naoki was still unaware that Regigigas had answered his plea.
After offering his tribute at the Regigigas shrine, he strolled back to his riding goat's side.
He glanced down at the sapling, and that casual glance revealed something significant.
The required time had decreased by four years!
Naoki was stunned, and he couldn't help but blurt out an expletive. "Holy crap, it really is the World Tree!"
Wait a minute! Can there be two World Trees in the same world?
However, as clever as Naoki was, he soon noticed the difference between the two.
The one in the Oreburgh City of the Kanto region was called the [World-Beginning Tree].
Whereas this one, grown by his Riding Goat, had dropped the 'Beginning' part and was simply called the World Tree.
The distinction between them might be like the difference between the Great Thunder Monastery and the Little Thunder Monastery.
Naoki began to analyze the situation calmly.
The World-Beginning Tree was bound to Mew's life.
When the tree dies, Mew dies, and when Mew perishes, the tree is affected as well.
However, this World Tree, grown by his Riding Goat, obviously wouldn't have that kind of complication.
It was very likely that it would grow to be just like the World-Beginning Tree! Complete with its own unique ecosystem within!
What brought him even more joy was that the energy from the Regikaiser's power had reduced the required growth time of this tree by four years.
Once he brought Regikaiser and its two beloved steeds to the ranch and supplemented them with various Grass Energy-enhancing dishes, perhaps he could really witness this tree's maturation in his lifetime!
With this thought, Naoki felt excited and rejuvenated, filled with new enthusiasm.
He turned to look at the three Riding Goats beside him.
Once this World Tree matured, as the ones who cultivated it, the Riding Goats would have contributed greatly, and they would gain the tree's recognition and earn the right to live within the World Tree.
Perhaps they could even become guardians of the World Tree, just like Regice and the others, defending it against all intruders and achieving legendary status.
Naoki was thrilled at the prospect. He planned to move his home up into the tree as well, experiencing treehouse living and farming within the World Tree.
A ranch on the World Tree, a mansion on the World Tree, a tavern on the World Tree...
Naoki turned and offered another pile of Berries to Regikaiser.
Although it couldn't eat them, it could certainly feel the sentiment behind the offering.
Crown Tundra, Galar region.
Seeing her little follower so elated, Regikaiser felt a bit speechless.
This little follower of hers was great in every way, except perhaps for being a bit lacking in intelligence.
It seemed that she would have to take extra care of him from now on.
As the former ruler of the Galar region, Regikaiser thought a lot about this in that moment.
Every time she thought about how the humans in this region had forgotten her, Regikaiser felt a deep sense of disappointment.
Then, her thoughts turned to the area where her little follower lived.
There, not only was agriculture developed and the land bountiful, but the humans and Pokemon who lived there were also very simple and kind.
Happiness was always relative.
Regikaiser: "..."
I'm moving! I'm moving out right now!
I don't want to be the ruler of Galar anymore!
However, this was impossible.
While she could transfer her territory on a large scale, in her current physical condition, she simply didn't have the strength to do so.
Therefore, she could only pin her hopes on her little follower, wishing that he would come to her soon and help her retrieve those two ungrateful horses.
But for now, the energy she had accumulated had been exhausted, and she needed to sleep for a while.
In the midst of the swirling snow, Regikaiser closed her eyes wearily, hoping that when she opened them again, her little follower would be standing before her.
Naoki was unaware of Regikaiser's expectations of him.
Seeing Regikaiser manifest once more, he began to ponder how much he had raised his favorability with her over the past few months.
It was obviously a significant number.
Otherwise, why would Regikaiser grant his wishes every time? Even if it had only been twice.
But for the current Regikaiser, this might already be everything she could do.
With this thought, Naoki's affections shifted slightly from the two horses to Regikaiser.
He returned to the living room and glanced at the calendar hanging on the wall. Finally, he took a pen and marked the second day of November.
He planned to go to the Galar region on that day to try and find Regikaiser, Blizzaruff, and Spectral Rider.
As for why he wouldn't go in October...
This had to do with the unique seasons of this world, which could be described as distinctly marked.
1, 2, and 3 were spring. In January, everything revived, and the snow began to slowly melt.
4, 5, and 6 were summer, and the weather would get hotter and hotter.
7, 8, and 9 were autumn. The hot weather would gradually cool down in early July, and the climate would become crisp and pleasant, with the leaves turning yellow.
10, 11, and 12 were winter.
The temperature in October would gradually drop, frost would appear, and by mid-November, snow would fall and continue until the end of December.
He didn't know how long the trip to the Galar region would take, and if it snowed heavily along the way, the Pokemon on the ranch might be affected.
However, Goulerton thought Naoki was overthinking things.
All the Pokemon on the ranch had experienced winter and had seen snowfall before.
But who could change Naoki's mind once he had made a decision?
If Naoki said to go west, Goulerton wouldn't dare to go east.
Goulerton yawned lazily, lying in a corner of the living room and enjoying the familiar atmosphere of the ranch.
Meanwhile, Naoki embarked on his brewing endeavor.
He brought out all the hops and malt he had stored and began the brewing process following the steps outlined in the ranch handbook that Mayor Thomas had given him.
Brewing was a complex process.
It involved mashing, filtering, boiling, cooling, and then transferring the brew into oak barrels for fermentation.
Typically, the fermentation process took around 15 days. However, it was said that longer aging in oak barrels resulted in beer with a more distinctive flavor.
The oak barrels also imparted a unique oaky aroma to the beer, enhancing its taste.
Additionally, this brewing method could be used to create fruit wines, such as grape wine.
But as the ranch didn't have a vineyard, Naoki couldn't brew grape wine and had to resort to using berry fruits instead.
So, after filling the barrels with beer, Naoki went to Stonycroft to buy a variety of berry fruits.
He purchased Roseli Berries, Pecha Berries, and Starf Berries, among others.
Each type of berry had a unique flavor, ranging from sweet to spicy to tangy.
Different Pokemon had different preferences, so Naoki decided to experiment with all of them.
The brewing process took a total of five days.
In reality, brewing was a complicated and time-consuming task, and the oak barrels were quite large, making it impossible to simply throw in some hops and wait for the beer to be ready, as depicted in Stardew Valley.
During this period, Naoki spent most of his time in the basement, rarely going out.
By the time he and Goulerton finished filling the last oak barrel, it was the 4th of July, 198 AD in the Pokemon League calendar.
Autumn had arrived, and the air was turning crisp and cool.
Naoki stepped out of the house, relishing the refreshing autumn weather, and stretched lazily.
He turned to look at his arm and exclaimed in surprise to Goulerton beside him, "Do you think I've gotten fairer?"
"Huh?" Goulerton glanced at him, tilting its head, not really noticing any difference.
During the summer, Naoki had been working tirelessly under the sun, which had tanned and roughened his skin.
Now, seeing his skin tone lightening, Naoki was naturally delighted.
He muttered to himself, "I guess I should spend more time in the basement from now on."
The last time he went to Stonycroft Market after working in the fields, a teenage girl had called him "uncle" because of his messy hair and rough appearance, and Naoki had almost died of embarrassment.
He was only in his twenties, not an uncle yet!
The weather was perfect today—a gentle breeze, pleasant sunshine, and although the fields hadn't been plowed yet, there was no rush.
So, Naoki instructed his Dragonite and Motostoke to bring out a rocking chair and place it on the lawn so he could lie down and pet his Sandshrew while soaking up the sun.
Sandshrew was used to this routine by now.
It obediently lay flat, enjoying the attention.
However, as Naoki was petting it, he suddenly asked in confusion, "Hey, Sandshrew, do you have lice or something?"
"What?!" Sandshrew was startled by the question.
Naoki rummaged through its fur and finally found a tiny grain of sand. "Oh, it's just a piece of sand. I must have been mistaken."
"Hmph!" Sandshrew looked at Naoki with displeasure.
Naoki chuckled and rubbed its head. "I must be imagining things. How could you have lice? Even if you did, you could just use Thunder Shock to zap them all."
Sandshrew thought about it and realized it was true, so it relaxed and continued to enjoy the sunbathing session with Naoki.
As they lay there, a shadow suddenly fell over them.
Naoki felt the sunlight being blocked and opened his eyes to see a Wingull hovering above them.
The Wingull opened its beak, and a photo slowly drifted down, landing right on Naoki's face.
