Chapter 186: Holiday Makeup Class
Chapter 186: Holiday Makeup Class
"This is simply unbelievable."
During dinner in the Great Hall, Cedric had already heard about what happened in Potions class earlier from Conna.
He smacked his lips and asked curiously, "I remember the Elixir of Life and Death is something we learn in sixth year, right? How did you manage to do that... Wait, don't tell me you've already studied all the Potions textbooks!"
Kyle, who was cutting a sausage, glanced up at him and smiled, "What if I did?"
Cedric paused for a moment, then half-jokingly said, "In that case, I'll have to give up Quidditch and make more time to study harder... After all, being friends with a future Potions Master is a lot of pressure."
"It seems I owe Harris my life." Kyle patted his chest and said with a hint of fear, "If you were to quit the team because of this, he'd definitely kill me!"
"Alright, I admit I was just joking."
Under everyone's gaze, Kyle continued, "I guess I was lucky. I found a book called 'Advanced Potion Making' a few days ago and casually flipped through it to pass the time, and I just happened to see the process of making the Elixir of Life and Death."
It was indeed a stroke of luck. If he hadn't learned the Mind-Closing Charm during the summer break, he wouldn't dare to act like this in front of Snape.
Although this behavior was a bit reckless, it felt really good,
especially when he saw Snape's expression of wanting to deduct points but unable to, and his face full of doubt about life. Kyle almost couldn't hold back his laughter.
It was a pity that he didn't capture Snape's expression at that moment; otherwise, Kyle would have used the best Developing Potion to turn it into a hilarious GIF and post it in every corner of Hogwarts.
He wondered if there would be another opportunity like this in the future. If so, perhaps he could discuss it with Peeves.
"Even so, it's still very impressive."
At this moment, Michael, sitting on the other side of Kyle, sighed and said, "Professor Snape has already written down the process, but I just can't seem to learn it."
Michael was the unlucky one who had blown up the cauldron.
After he finished stirring, the potion started to evaporate rapidly, and the cauldron suddenly exploded, leaving a puddle of black, gooey substance.
In a way, that substance might have had a more potent sleep-inducing effect than the normal Elixir of Life and Death, but no one dared to taste it to find out.
After dinner, the group returned to the common room and found a spot near the fireplace.
The blazing fire quickly dispelled the cold they brought in from outside. They leaned back on the sofa, feeling comfortable and drowsy.
With Christmas break approaching, the young wizards in the common room were all excited, discussing their holiday plans.
Cedric listened to their conversations and turned to Kyle, asking, "By the way, Kyle, are you really not going home for Christmas?"
"Mm-hmm." Kyle nodded.
Diana hadn't been home recently, and Chris had gone to Albania with Newt. So, this Christmas, Kyle's home would be empty.
Last week, Professor Sprout came to register the students staying at school during the holidays, and Kyle immediately signed his name on the list. Conna also did the same.
According to Conna, Professor Snape seemed to want to give her extra lessons during the Christmas break, so she had to stay at school.
Kyle felt envious. He really wanted to ask to join, but he knew Snape would never agree.
Another year, Fred and George also plan to stay, as the Weasley couple is visiting Charlie in Romania and won't be taking them along.
"Why are you all staying at school for Christmas..." Cedric sighed, running his hands through his hair. "It's too boring to go back alone."
In fact, he wanted to stay, and even wrote a letter to his family, but Mr. Digory was firmly against it.
Cedric didn't want to go against his wishes, so he had no choice but to give up.
Fortunately, Autumn also chose to go home, so he didn't seem too out of place.
The group sat by the fireplace until the afternoon, then reluctantly stood up and left the common room.
Cedric had to attend the last Charms class before the break.
Kyle and Conna, on the other hand, had Herbology.
After the armored pumpkin incident during the last Halloween, Professor Sprout introduced another festive magical plant in the last class before the Christmas break.
Snowcap Mushrooms.
This mushroom species stands over half a meter tall, with white patterns on its cap resembling a Christmas tree topped with snowflakes.
Unsurprisingly, Kyle once again earned twenty points for Hufflepuff.
Whether it was to consider others' feelings or due to the Christmas spirit, at the end of class, Professor Sprout gave each student a Snowcap Mushroom as a gift.

However, Kyle wasn't very enthusiastic.
The Snowcap Mushroom is a non-toxic ornamental plant that typically grows on snow-covered mountain peaks, rarely seen by young wizards.
In fact, for just three Sickles, you can buy a Snowcap Mushroom in Diagon Alley, or even cheaper if you buy the seeds—twenty Knuts for a small spoonful.
Planting it in the flowerbed would only improve the diet of the Mooncrazed Beasts.
...
After Kyle, Conna, and the others finished their last Herbology class and exited the greenhouse, everyone excitedly jumped up.
Tomorrow was the long-awaited holiday, and if it weren't for the mandatory evening banquet, they would have boarded the train home immediately.
At the back of the crowd, Conna quietly asked, "Kyle, what are you planning to do during the break?"
"I'll probably do nothing," Kyle replied after some thought. "I've been too busy lately, so I plan to take this opportunity to rest well. I want to explore Hogwarts thoroughly or try the secret passage recommended by the Weasley brothers."
Upon hearing this, Conna couldn't help but show a hint of envy.
During this break, she only had three days to complete her assignments for various subjects, and the rest of the time would be spent on remedial classes.
According to Professor Snape, "Your foundation is too weak, wasting such talent. Remedial classes are a must!"
Originally, she had a week to work on her assignments, and if she worked faster, she could free up a few days for personal activities.
But for some reason, while on her way to class, she suddenly received a note from Professor Snape, stating that the remedial class time had been moved forward by four days and urging her to finish her assignments quickly.
Now, she had no choice but to spend the three days completing her assignments, leaving no time for anything else.
