Chapter 186: Dispute and the Dangle Charm
Chapter 186: Dispute and the Dangle Charm
After enduring a few torturous days, Ivan barely adapted to his daily life with a blade of grass in his mouth. Apart from the slight inconvenience during brushing his teeth and eating, everything else was normal.
[Ding, after some time of practice, your Transfiguration Spell proficiency has increased. Transfiguration Spell Level 4 (1599/1600)]
Having finished reading Professor Mcgonagall's practice notes, Ivan smoothly heard the notification of his proficiency increase.
Seeing that he only needed a little more proficiency to reach Level 5 in Transfiguration, Ivan became even more diligent. However, after several hours of practice, his proficiency didn't increase at all.
Ivan then realized he had reached a new bottleneck.
"Ivan, do you want to come and watch the Quidditch training? Harry said today is the first practice of the semester." Ron asked as he was about to leave.
Ivan thought for a moment, realizing he had no other urgent matters, and nodded in agreement.
Moreover, if he remembered correctly, participating in and winning a Quidditch match at the end of last semester would grant House Points as a reward.
Before leaving the dormitory, Ivan suddenly remembered something and took out a wand, tossing it to Ron.
"Ron, your wand is fixed."
Ron caught it and examined the wand, noticing that the middle part had been completely repaired, looking just like it did originally.
Ron tried waving the wand in the air a couple of times, and a magic Beam struck the ground, exploding into sparks. It felt incredibly smooth.
"Wow, this is amazing." Ron said happily, meaning he wouldn't get scolded when he went home.
When Ron had handed his wand to Ivan, he didn't expect it to be fixed, but Ivan had surprised him. Moreover, it seemed that this wand was even better than before.
Ron looked at Ivan with curiosity and asked, "What did you do to my wand? The spell I just cast seemed more powerful than before."
"Just a simple enhancement", Ivan said, feeling a bit guilty.
Having a research subject was a rare opportunity, so Ivan couldn't waste it. Over the past few days, he had tinkered with Ron's wand extensively, conducting various experiments.
For example, he tried to construct an enhancement rune circuit inside the wand, which would amplify the magic each time it was used. However, when he input magic, the wand nearly exploded.
After numerous improvements, the results were not entirely successful but not a complete failure either. He did manage to complete the enhancement rune circuit, but the amplification was minimal.
Given Ron's weak magical strength, he could clearly feel that his spells had become slightly more powerful.
Clearly, more materials were needed for further experiments.
Thinking about this, Ivan felt a bit frustrated. wands were not expensive, but Ollivander's wand Shop wouldn't easily sell large quantities of wands, making it difficult to obtain enough test subjects.
Ron, unaware of this, held his wand with delight, feeling confident that he would do well in his Transfiguration and Spellcasting exams this semester.
The two of them walked to the Quidditch training grounds, and on the way, they met Hermione, who was heading back to the common room. After a brief discussion, the three decided to watch Harry's training together.
Upon arriving at the Quidditch practice field, Ivan realized that two groups were facing off on the pitch. Apart from Harry's Gryffindor Team, there were the Slytherins in their green robes.
"What's going on here? Harry, didn't you say it was the Gryffindor Team's turn to use the pitch? Why are they here?" Ron looked around, puzzled.
The captain of the Slytherin team, Marcus Flint, stepped forward, patted Malfoy on the shoulder, and said to everyone, "That's because we have a new Seeker, and Professor Snape has specially approved us to practice on the pitch today."
"And my father bought new brooms for the Slytherin team, so we need to get used to them", said Malfoy, with a mocking tone.
The Slytherin team members also smiled, showing off their new brooms to the other side—seven Nimbus 2001s!
The opulence of the new brooms practically blinded everyone.
Even Ivan had to admit that the Malfoy family was truly wealthy. The Nimbus 2001 was the latest model in the Nimbus series, released just last month, and it was shockingly expensive.
Buying seven at once would cost no less than a thousand Galleons, and this was just to ensure that Malfoy could smoothly join the team.
Ivan couldn't help but feel the weight of his own poverty. His family didn't earn a thousand Galleons in a month, even with all the popular products he had created.
If even Ivan felt this way, then the Gryffindor Team members felt even more so. They were all too aware of how much the seven new brooms would increase the Slytherin team's chances of winning.
Their old Nimbus Series Brooms couldn't even match half the speed of the new ones. How were they supposed to compete?
Malfoy smiled happily, constantly waving his Nimbus 2001, looking at the Gryffindor Team with ridicule. The only broom that caught his eye was Harry's Nimbus 2000, but that was last year's model.
"At least we, the Gryffindor Team, got in based on our skills, not by buying our way in!" Hermione couldn't help but retort when she saw Malfoy's smug smile.
Malfoy's face darkened at the jab, his expression turning grim. "No one asked you, you stinking little Mudblood!"
"How dare you say that?!" Alyssa, a member of the Gryffindor Team, exclaimed, shocked at Malfoy.
Ron, angry, tried to rush at Malfoy, but Wood held him back. George and Fred rolled up their sleeves, and the other team members also showed signs of anger.
Malfoy was momentarily afraid, but as the Slytherin team's benefactor, Captain Marcus had to protect him, despite any personal dissatisfaction.
The other Slytherins also drew their wands, facing off against the Gryffindor team.
Hermione was confused. She could guess that Malfoy had said something very offensive, but she didn't know what it meant. She looked at Ivan questioningly.
"Mudblood is a very derogatory term, used by some pure-blood wizards to insult Muggle-born wizards", Ivan explained, frowning.
Like Hermione, he wasn't a pure-blood wizard and didn't particularly care for the term, but he couldn't ignore Malfoy's discriminatory remarks.
Protected by his teammates, Malfoy hid behind them, still planning to say more.
Without warning, Ivan took action, waving his wand and pointing it at Malfoy.
"Dangle Charm!"
