Chapter 186: Cleanup
Chapter 186: Cleanup
Chen Chuan glanced at the ground and twisted his blade, continuing his steady stride along the metal plate corridor. Each step echoed in the vast factory, creating a chorus of reverberations.
As they neared the exit, Wei Jun's group heard footsteps approaching from behind, and a sense of dread washed over them. Their bodies broke into a cold sweat, and their breaths quickened with tension.
One of them, in a panic, hurried his steps but slipped and fell a short distance away. When he came to his senses, he realized his lower body was two meters away from where he had been, and he couldn't help but scream in shock.
His reaction startled the others, their faces turning pale as they gasped for breath. Despite their fear, they dared not stop moving, their bodies trembling and shaky.
After a while, the footsteps behind them suddenly stopped, as if the pursuer had vanished.
"The sound stopped?"
"What's going on? Did they fall behind, or was it taken care of by the Combat Mantis?"
Wei Jun couldn't resist turning back to look, but as he did, his pupils contracted slightly. Chen Chuan stood calmly at the corridor's bend, his gaze fixed on them.
"Damn!"
Wei Jun felt a surge of despair.
"Call for help! Quick, get someone in here! There's someone out there!" One of the members, having spotted Chen Chuan, cried out in panic.
But all he could do was shout.
They had stationed people outside, but unfortunately, they had been instructed that the factory might get "lively," and everyone should stay clear. So, these individuals faithfully stood their ground, ignoring the gunfire and screams from within.
Moreover, due to the rushed timing and the old factory's condition, there were no telephone lines, and the radio they had brought was useless in the heat of the moment. Operating it now was out of the question.
Another member seemed to realize something, saying, "Wait, that thing blocked him, yes, and it blocked him too. He can't get through either. We can escape, we can get out of here!"
He shouted in excitement, as if he had found a lifeline.
The others around him shared his relief.
"Yes, he can't get through either."
Jiang Wei silently crawled forward, ignoring those behind him. He knew that Chen Chuan's presence here meant he had dealt with the Combat Mantises. The biological weapon Chen Chuan had brought wouldn't be stopped in such a confined space.
Instead of wasting energy on words, they should run forward, hoping for a slim chance of escape.
As he gestured with his blade, he was surprised to find no obstacles ahead, and so were the others around him. The man in front of them couldn't touch any barriers.
This was because, as the effect of the spider silk wore off with time, its function ceased.
Upon realizing this, the members of the Mutual Aid Society scrambled to their feet and stumbled towards the exit.
Chen Chuan approached, his pace unhurried. But in a flash of his blade, one of them fell.
Wei Jun watched as Chen Chuan advanced swiftly. He kicked the person in front of him towards Chen Chuan, who casually deflected the attack with the Xuejun Blade. The blade had already sliced through the man's neck, and he fell, clutching his throat, his legs trembling as he backed against the wall. He pushed himself up, still clutching his neck, and staggered towards the exit.
Chen Chuan paid him no mind. The man, relying on his fighter's physique, managed a hundred steps before collapsing. Blood trailed behind him, his pace slowing until he finally fell to the ground, twitching helplessly a few times.
One of the members' eyes widened, and he charged at Chen Chuan.
Suddenly, Chen Chuan appeared beside him, reaching out and grasping his neck. With a tight grip, a sharp crack sounded, and the man's body and limbs went limp, his feet dragging on the ground.
Chen Chuan's arm remained steady, and he released the man, letting him fall to the ground.
Wei Jun watched, his breath quickening. As a qualified fighter himself, he longed to engage Chen Chuan in combat, knowing it could mean death, but he'd rather go down fighting.
Yet, his legs remained rooted, unable to move. After witnessing Chen Chuan's prowess, he knew he stood no chance.
If he could survive, who would willingly choose death?
Zhao Xuelong had promised to send them a skilled fighter, but he hadn't arrived yet. They wouldn't have ended up in this situation otherwise! It seemed they had to rely on themselves.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a squirming, transparent worm, swallowing it. This was the remnant left behind by the Two-Faced Heart Demon after each kill, granting the consumer temporary abilities similar to the demon's possessed state.
Though there was a risk of falling into illusions and self-inflicted harm when attacking others, external forces would find it difficult to harm him during this period.
As long as he endured this brief period, he could survive!
Jiang Wei, after getting up, waited a moment. This pause allowed someone to push him aside and rush ahead, grabbing the door handle. But as he touched it, a black shadow flashed, slicing the person into pieces.
Jiang Wei fixed his gaze on the shadow, then darted forward, reaching the door. Despite his quick reflexes, a hand was severed.
He clung to the door, slowly moving his face to peer down. To his horror, he saw a blade piercing through his abdomen, connecting him to the door.
Determined, he endured the pain and slowly backed away, holding the blade to minimize the wound. Finally, he pulled the blade free from the door.
Just then, a hand reached around and grabbed the hilt of the blade behind him, pulling it away.
Jiang Wei suddenly felt a chill in his abdomen, causing him to grunt softly, but he didn't turn around. Instead, he clutched his stomach and staggered forward a few steps, continuing to reach for the door handle. However, his hands were covered in blood, causing him to slip several times without managing to grasp it. Finally, he turned around and leaned against the door, sliding down while still clutching his stomach.
His face turned pale, and cold sweat trickled down his forehead. He looked at Chen Chuan, and in a weak voice, he said, "Why do this? If you kill us, you'll die too. Let me go, and I can keep you alive..."
Chen Chuan merely looked at him calmly.
Seeing his state, Jiang Wei seemed to realize something, and he stared at Chen Chuan intently. "You won't die? You... You have the Infinite Defense Certificate? Is that it? Is it?"
In the end, Jiang Wei shouted with all his might.
Chen Chuan didn't respond but turned and left the corridor, leaving only one person behind. Jiang Wei's voice grew weaker, and his consciousness gradually faded until his head drooped onto his chest, and there was no more sound from him.
In the factory area, Wei Jun's voice carried over, accompanied by the sound of pounding and smashing as walls and pillars were being destroyed.
"Shen Zheng, why aren't you dead? Why won't you die? Why don't you just die?"
"Stay back! Your sister isn't here; she's been taken to Central City by Zhao Qian. Don't come looking for me!"
"Why? Why are you so capable? Who is the most capable one here?"
As Chen Chuan walked out, Wei Jun's face twisted, and he choked a steel pillar with his hands, but the situation seemed to worsen as he struggled to breathe.
Chen Chuan watched silently, having noticed earlier that Wei Jun seemed impervious to external harm, but he appeared to be trapped in some irresistible fantasy. Moreover, when he tried to attack Chen Chuan, he ended up hurting himself.
Chen Chuan guessed this was related to the strange tales and secrets they had encountered today.
In a 6-19 book, a bar, a look, a mistake, a version!
Shen Zheng had encountered something like this back then, so the autopsy results showed that all the injuries were self-inflicted.
Wei Jun's face gradually turned purple, and he seemed to have encountered something extremely dangerous. His hands remained on the pillar, exerting all their strength, but his eyes began to roll back...
Meanwhile, outside, the sky gradually brightened, and on the road leading to the factory, Lu Fang, Shu Han, and others sat in several off-road vehicles, racing at top speed.
"Faster, faster!" someone kept urging the driver.
A member of the Ze Han Society had received a piece of information, saying that Chen Chuan had taken the Foreign Affairs recommendation, but this matter was known to the Mutual Aid Society, who arranged a meeting with Chen Chuan at the Li An Mechanical Old Factory.
This address immediately struck a nerve with them, as Shen Zheng had died in that place years ago, and the autopsy results had indicated that the death was self-inflicted.
Now, Chen Chuan was also called, and it seemed that the events of years past were about to repeat themselves.
The Ze Han Society immediately decided to go to that place together, even though they had no martial prowess, and after many of their core members left, they had long lost their strength. Still, those who remained held a stubborn determination in their hearts.
Shu Han said to Lu Fang, "Lu, you've already graduated, so there's no need to come along."
Lu Fang shook his head firmly, saying, "When you were in trouble back then, I wasn't there. I deeply regret that, and the person who died shouldn't have been me but you. If you were there, perhaps today would have been different." He took a breath and said, "But at least today, I can make up for it."
"Lu is right. Three years ago, when you died, we couldn't do anything. But now, we can't do nothing. Chen has the recommendation, and he can take the exam for the Infinite Defense Certificate. He's our only hope after you, and we can't give up. Even if you're not here, someone can continue on this path!"
The Ze Han Society members nodded to each other, some having already graduated, but they still came. Although Chen Chuan refused their invitation, they had been paying attention all along.
Later, they discovered that Chen Chuan's combat prowess didn't seem to have fallen behind due to his choice of the Zhou Yuan Force. Instead, he accomplished feats that ordinary trainees couldn't achieve, proving that Chen Chuan's chosen path was correct.
After driving a bit further, they finally arrived near the old factory area.
"It's here!" someone pointed at the building that appeared ahead.
The Ze Han Society trainees' eyes were complex, filled with both sadness and anger.
Three years ago, they had seen Shen Zheng's body being carried out from this very place, and now, after so much effort, they were prepared to do it all over again. They wouldn't allow it to end like this!
However, after reaching the front, they found that not only were there obstacles set up, but there was also a patrol security team. Therefore, they couldn't enter directly, so they got out of the vehicles.
As they reached the front, they were stopped by the security guards stationed there, who informed them that this was a private factory area and they weren't allowed to approach.
The Wei Family's butler saw these people, and now, more than an hour had passed, but the door hadn't opened. Considering that Young Master Wei and the others might not have had their fill yet, the butler had to keep them out.
But as dawn approached, it seemed it was time for them to wrap things up. Just then, he had received a message from the radio station, saying that someone was already on their way here.
Lu Fang and the others were anxious, knowing that every minute delayed might bring a minute of danger. So, they decided to force their way in, as these security guards weren't armed, and their martial prowess alone couldn't stop them.
Just as they were about to make their move, the ground suddenly shook, and a fleet of armed patrol vehicles drove along the road towards them.
"It's the Patrol Bureau! The Patrol Bureau's vehicles!"
One by one, armed patrol officers got out and lined up on both sides, and in the middle, a special vehicle stopped, and Deputy Director Guan Ming got out and stood outside.
The butler was startled, not expecting Guan Ming to be here, but before he could approach, he heard another commotion and looked to the other side, where a fleet of black vehicles drove up and stopped in front.
His expression changed slightly, "The Sect Review Bureau?"
As the lead armed vehicle's door opened, Lei, the director, got out, and behind him, people with faces and backs tattooed with secret patterns and wearing black windbreakers also emerged.
