Chapter 185: Zhenzhen's Potential, Ritual Embodiment
As soon as Zhang Yu returned to his apartment, he resumed his cultivation of Chunqiu Wujin Chan.
With each of the Forty-Nine Forms meticulously practiced, the Eternal Martial Energy continued to stimulate the repair and regeneration of every fiber of his flesh. His body—once withered and drained from relentless training and medicinal abuse—now felt reborn, revitalized like never before.
Chunqiu Wujin Chan – Level 8 (36/80)
Though deeply immersed in cultivation, the conversation with Yun Ni had not left Zhang Yu unaffected.
“Inspection Team… are they investigating the Evil God’s affairs?”
Yun Ni’s concern added weight to Zhang Yu’s growing unease.
Though Zhang Pianpian had asked her to look after him, he couldn’t believe she’d still protect him if she uncovered the secret of the Evil God buried within his soul.
To counter the potential surveillance from the Inspection Team, Zhang Yu had no choice but to accelerate the preparation of his Rituals—hastening toward greater counter-surveillance capabilities, and stronger influence over information.
Recalling Zhang Pianpian’s words, Zhang Yu inwardly sighed:
“Controlling information, mastering information asymmetry—this is the essential skill for climbing within Kunxu.”
The next day, once all the materials arrived, Zhang Yu brought Fujie and Bai Zhenzhen to their familiar abandoned building, ready to begin Bai Zhenzhen’s Wish Ritual—and their own Detection and Anti-Detection Rituals.
Inside one of the building’s rooms, Zhang Yu and Bai Zhenzhen followed Fujie’s instructions to set up the Ritual space.
Fujie spoke with calm authority:
“Rituals depend on Offering and scale. The better the Offering, the stronger the effect, the higher the success rate, and the less likely it is to be detected by Zheng Shen. Larger scale means broader range and greater reach.”
She paused, then continued:
“Additionally, you need an Altar, a Human-God Medium, a Spirit Energy artifact, the Evil God Symbol, and incantations—each element is essential. None can be missing.”
The room was now filled with rows of red candles.
Fujie transformed once more into her ragged doll form, placed upon a golden bronze Altar.
Two smartphones, streaming data, were positioned on either side of her—serving as the Medium for Human-God Connection.
The rented Qi Hai Linggen, a sacred vessel, was cradled in her hands—perfect for preserving Spirit Energy.
And Fujie herself, as the true embodiment of the Evil God—was the ultimate Evil God Symbol.
Four ancient artifacts were placed at the four cardinal points, each pulsing with latent Incense Devotion Power, waiting to be drawn upon.
“Taiji Youming, shadows rise and fall. All living beings, heart pure in devotion—Incense Devotion Power, come forth!”
With a flick of her fingers, Fujie summoned the power from the air. The ancient artifacts cracked one by one, their spiritual essence surging into her form.
“Spiritual awareness obscured, believers wander lost—truth and illusion blurred. Let all gather into my grasp—hurry, as commanded!”
A faint, dark golden divine energy began to swirl above Fujie’s head.
At that moment, Bai Zhenzhen stiffened—then, with a sudden surge, the Evil God’s energy flooded into her body.
After a long silence, the Ritual concluded.
Bai Zhenzhen slowly opened her eyes, her gaze curious as she studied her own body.
“How are you?” Zhang Yu asked. “A Zhen, are you alright?”
A flash of electric light flickered in her eyes—then she smiled.
“Yu, is this what it feels like when potential is awakened?”
“Is this the power that’s always been hidden inside me?”
Threads of lightning burst from her eyes, then spiraled across her entire body. Her long hair surged upward as crackling arcs of thunder danced around her.
Zhang Yu stared, stunned.
“What exactly did your potential unlock?”
Bai Zhenzhen opened her mouth—and一道道电光 flickered within.
“It’s too early to tell. I need to experiment more before I understand what’s happening.”
As the lightning faded, the strange aura within her subsided.
She didn’t yet know the precise nature of her transformation—she’d explore it later.
For now, the priority was completing the remaining Rituals.
With their joint efforts, they carried out the Detection Ritual and the Anti-Detection Ritual.
As the final chant ended, Zhang Yu felt a series of runes flash across his back.
Instantly, two distinct Ritual Powers awakened within him.
He activated the Detection Ritual’s power—and in the pitch-black room, a single point flared to life, glowing faintly in his vision.
It was one of the surveillance cameras they’d brought for testing.
“That’s it,” Zhang Yu murmured, watching the camera now visible in his sight.
He withdrew the Ritual’s power—and the camera vanished once more into darkness.
“So… if I activate the Detection Ritual, I can directly see the location of any camera?”
Bai Zhenzhen moved the camera to the far wall.
They activated the Ritual again—and saw it clearly, even behind the wall.
After several rounds of testing, Zhang Yu confirmed:
Once active, the Detection Ritual could detect any camera within a 30-meter radius.
Ordinary barriers offered no concealment.
“Just a few minutes… already drained nearly half the Ritual’s power.”
“Good thing the Ritual automatically replenishes from the Divine Power Network when connected to the internet.”
“Approximately ten minutes of detection time per day.”
Ten minutes—short, but more than enough for Zhang Yu’s purposes.
Next, they took out the pre-prepared Detection Patch, testing the Anti-Detection Ritual.
Zhang Yu, whose Martial Energy should have been over 90 units, now registered only 85.
And as he continued using the Ritual’s power, his reading plummeted to a low of 50 units.
“Anti-Detection Ritual lasts one hour daily,” Zhang Yu noted.
“It hides both Martial Energy and Physical Strength Level from detection.”
He nodded in satisfaction.
“Excellent. Now I won’t have to stand out so much during the Monthly Exam.”
Seeing their pleased expressions, Fujie puffed up proudly.
“Well? Didn’t I say so? These Rituals are invaluable.”
She added with a smirk:
“The Evil God’s Rituals are this powerful. If you ever want to make real money, grow in the Dark Tutoring Realm, or succeed in fraud, smuggling, or corporate warfare—your Ritual Power must keep growing.”
Zhang Yu knew Fujie’s words were not just advice—they were a subtle push to help her ascend her own rank.
Only by increasing her power could she perform more Rituals.
He suspected she’d inflated the number of ancient artifacts required—likely using the excess to siphon more Evil God Energy for herself.
But for now, it was a mutually beneficial arrangement. He wasn’t going to argue.
Now, he asked:
“How many Rituals can you currently sustain?”
Fujie replied:
“I can maintain ten Rituals total.”
“After accounting for your two Wish Rituals, plus the Detection and Anti-Detection Rituals—four remain.”
She shrugged.
“Don’t rush. The remaining Rituals are expensive. You can hold off and choose them later, as needed.”
Zhang Yu pressed further:
“What can I do to help you sustain more Rituals?”
Fujie grinned.
“Two ways. First, consume the ranks of other colleagues. Every two levels you ascend, I gain more capacity.”
“Second, steal Zheng Shen’s authority. But that’s something you can ignore for now.”
She paused, then added:
“Keep my rank rising, and you’ll gain stronger Rituals. One day, you’ll break free from Beyond the Three Loans, escape Within the Five Insurances, and live a life of true cultivation freedom and wealth independence.”
“Otherwise, no matter how strong you become, you’re still just a beast of burden for the Top Ten Sects.”
After tidying up, Zhang Yu and Bai Zhenzhen returned to their apartment near Ziyun High School.
As they entered the building, Zhang Yu activated the Detection Ritual—and instantly saw every surveillance camera inside.
Once inside their room, he activated it again.
Though they’d already checked earlier, he ran the Ritual a second time, scanning the space thoroughly.
Only after confirming no cameras remained did he finally relax.
Then Bai Zhenzhen began experimenting with her new abilities.
Her Martial Energy now carried a lightning element—transforming into Specialized Martial Energy.
With this power, her Lightning Step and Leiji True Body cultivation improved dramatically.
The constant flow of energy through her body stimulated her muscles and nervous system, greatly enhancing her reaction time, speed, agility, and explosive power.
Beyond that, she sensed that any future cultivation techniques she practiced would yield twice the results.
And then—
Zhang Yu watched, wide-eyed, as Bai Zhenzhen jammed her fingers into a wall socket, her body crackling with electricity.
She laughed heartily.
“Yu! Look! I can charge my Martial Energy just by plugging in! Charging gives me body refinement—so I’ll get stronger just by plugging in!”
She grinned.
“Once my Zhen Linggen adapts to this new cultivation path, the efficiency will be even higher…”
Zhang Yu nodded slightly—then his expression turned sharp.
His eyes snapped to the electric meter.
The dial was spinning wildly.
“Stop! Stop right now!” Zhang Yu shouted.
“If you keep this up, Le Mulan might actually evict us!”
Bai Zhenzhen reluctantly pulled her fingers out.
“Fine, fine. I’ll go to school tomorrow and steal electricity there.”
“Besides, I can use the Detection Ritual to avoid cameras while doing it. Perfect combo!”
With the Rituals complete, Zhang Yu refocused entirely on his own cultivation.
A night passed in silence.
As the Eternal Martial Energy flowed through his body, Zhang Yu felt his flesh grow purer, clearer.
And Chunqiu Wujin Chan broke through once more.
