Chapter 185: Weapon
Chapter 185: Weapon
The gruesome scene in the corridor caught the eyes of Wei Jun and the others. Some of the Mutual Aid Society members, after a brief moment of shock, displayed extreme fear on their faces.
The scene was too horrific, and it was so close to them. They feared they might be next.
Their first thought was to run. They hurriedly called on the security personnel to hold the front while they began to frantically search for an escape route.
The factory had a rollable door at the front and two prominent side doors on either side. One side was still in combat due to the presence of the battle spider, so they all chose to run through the other side.
These people were also students of Wu Yi, so they moved quickly. None of them used the stairs; they all leaped down from above and rushed toward the side door, quickly approaching the exit.
But just then, a loud rumbling sound came from above the corridor. A figure leaped down and landed with a thud in front of them, blocking their path.
Chen Chuan flicked the long blade in his hand, slowly raised his eyes, and looked at everyone. Instantly, everyone stopped in their tracks and began to slowly retreat backward.
"Chen Chuan, if you dare to kill us, you will die too!" one of the Mutual Aid Society members threatened, his voice trembling.
Chen Chuan said calmly, "When you killed others, did you ever think you might die too?" He slowly raised his blade, holding it horizontally in front of him. A cold light seemed to flow along the blade.
In the next moment, his eyes reflected the swift passage and rapid changes in angles, followed by the fierce strike of the blade. When everything suddenly stopped, he appeared behind the group, and not a single person behind him was left intact.
On the platform above, Wei Jun did not choose to run down with the others. As the organizer of this operation, he knew all the exits of the factory. There was a passage behind the factory that led directly outside, but the problem was that they might not be faster than Chen Chuan.
So he had no choice but to retreat to a safety room not far behind him. He then turned to the two black-cloaked men beside him and said fiercely, "Your ritual didn't work. You must take responsibility, or you know the consequences!"
The two black-cloaked men exchanged a glance, drew curved blades from their waists, and walked out.
Wei Jun immediately called the remaining Mutual Aid Society members to retreat into the safety room and pulled the specially designed steel door shut. The moment the door closed, the gunfire and screams outside vanished.
One of the men was trembling, his voice filled with fear, "That kid is insane, insane, to actually dare to attack us..."
Wei Jun's hair was disheveled. He had no time to consider whether Chen Chuan was insane; he needed to save his life first. He urged, "Where is it? Bring it out quickly!"
A few security personnel hurriedly lifted two large boxes from a cabinet against the wall and placed them in the center.
Wei Jun anxiously said, "Jiang Wei, what do we do?"
Jiang Wei was the calmest one present. He stepped forward, crouched down, and first pushed the latches, then pulled open the lock. He said, "This thing is from Mo Lan Corporation. It's my first time using it, but even if it can't kill Chen Chuan, it should at least delay him for a while. We can evacuate quickly, and once outside, we can gather enough manpower to kill him."
Someone urged, "I know, I know, now isn't the time to talk about this. Hurry up, hurry!"
They had no idea how long the people outside could hold on. The sight of Chen Chuan's blade cutting through bodies and leaving a trail of severed limbs and fragments had terrified them.
Jiang Wei turned the lock a few times and heard a click. He then lifted the lid of the box, revealing a thick white seal bag, about half a meter square, with something wrapped inside.
He picked up a high-energy nutrient needle embedded on the side of the box and inserted it into the object inside. After injecting all the nutrient solution, he felt it trembling slightly and quickly stood up and backed away.
There was a "tear" sound, and the thick seal bag was ripped open by two sharp blade feet. Inside, something stretched and slowly stood up.
Everyone in the room involuntarily retreated to the wall. It was a giant mantis, with a teal body and a nearly metallic texture.
Its strong mandibles contracted and expanded, and as the abdominal pores opened, the modified trachea delivered ample oxygen to every part of its body. As its vitality revived, the bulging compound eyes fixed on everyone in the room, and the front blade feet moved slowly, emitting a dangerous aura.
Jiang Wei said, "A combat mantis, a biological combat weapon bought by Mo Lan Corporation from some company. This should be able to hold that person for a while."
"Not just that, there's another box. Hurry, let's release it too," someone urged from behind.
Jiang Wei ignored him, first giving the combat mantis a few command gestures. Once it had relaxed its combat stance, he crouched down and started working on the other box.
"It'll be done soon."
Outside the factory, after clearing another group of people, Chen Chuan suddenly sensed something and turned to see two black-cloaked men approaching him.
These two men seemed like mirror images of each other, perfectly symmetrical, with a face printed on each of their garments. When the two independent faces were combined, they formed a relatively complete face.
This was somewhat like the abstract expression of the strange tale he had seen earlier, indicating that these two men were involved in the secret sect rituals around them.
The two men then split to the left and right and charged at him from both directions, their steps and rhythms perfectly synchronized, working together with remarkable coordination.
However, it was too slow.
With a slight lift of his long blade, he executed a swift double decapitation, sending the heads of the two men flying from their necks. Their bodies fell almost simultaneously, landing in different directions but with nearly identical postures and blood splatters. This was not intentional on their part but rather a result of his precise control over the force and angle of his blade.
He gave his blade a swift shake and looked towards the other side of the factory, where the sounds of screams and wails had just ceased.
In this central area of the factory, he had eliminated everyone within his line of sight, but he knew there was another group that had retreated into a room above.
Whether they ran or not made no difference unless someone with equal speed to his came to block his path. In this brief moment, no matter how far they ran, he could catch up in no time, and it wouldn't delay him for long.
After a moment's thought, he made a gesture, and the combat spider on the factory roof quickly crawled out, heading towards the opposite entrance to lay down spider silk.
Although the silk's high-strength properties could only last for ten minutes before a mere gust of wind could blow it away, this was enough time.
Holding the Xuejun Blade, he climbed the nearby metal staircase and followed the metal plate corridor, step by step, towards the room where Wei Jun and the others were hiding.
As he approached their location, he suddenly sensed something and extended the Xuejun Blade, producing a sharp ringing sound. Then, something shot out with a whoosh.
He turned to look, and the object had landed on a metal railing. It was about half a meter long, with a triangular head, a slender neck, and an elongated body. A pair of large, blade-like capture feet faced him, and the tip of its hooked foot occasionally scraped against the steel, emitting a metallic friction sound.
His eyes flickered, "A mantis?"
But with its size and the speed it had just displayed, it was evident that this was a biological combat weapon.
And there was more than one...
He could sense another mantis moving in the shadows, waiting for an opportunity.
Inside the safety room, Wei Jun heard the security guards returning and informing him that Chen Chuan was entangled with a combat mantis. He immediately rushed out, "While that kid is holding them off, let's get out of here quickly."
The group rushed out, following Wei Jun in a panic.
As Jiang Wei was leaving, he took an unused high-energy nutrient tube and threw it onto the ground in the distance. It shattered with a crack, and the nutrient solution spilled out, covering the ground.
The others didn't understand his intention, and he had no time to explain. It seemed that Chen Chuan hadn't come alone; he might have brought something similar to the combat mantis. These creatures relied on high-energy nutrients, so while they might not be attracted by the tube, it was worth a try.
The group ran swiftly, and in a short while, they reached a narrow corridor leading to a steel door painted red at the end—the exit! One of the Mutual Aid Society members couldn't contain his excitement and rushed ahead, but after just a few steps, his head and body silently split into several segments, scattering on the ground ahead.
"What is this...?"
Those behind were startled and immediately stopped in their tracks.
Jiang Wei examined the severed ends, looked around, and took a blade from one of the security guards. He cautiously probed the area with the blade, gritting his teeth, "We can crawl through here."
The group exchanged glances, and Jiang Wei looked at them, adjusting his glasses. "I'll go first, follow me."
He lifted his leg slowly, stepping over, then bent his body and crawled through. After passing his other leg, he probed with the blade again, seeing that there was a gap below. He lay down on the ground and slowly crawled forward, covering some distance.
Seeing his success, the others followed suit, removing their weapons and items and crawling through.
In the factory area, the two combat mantises were fixated on Chen Chuan. They had their own combat style, not taking the initiative to attack but swiftly retreating if Chen Chuan showed any signs of countering them. However, they would seize any opportunity to attack if he turned his back to them.
Chen Chuan's eyes flickered, and these two mantises were indeed tricky. Although he wasn't afraid, getting rid of them wouldn't be a quick task, despite their speed being slower than his. They could fly, move regardless of terrain, and coordinate their attacks.
After all, they were just biological weapons, and without someone to command them, they would only follow rigid attack patterns.
He slowly raised his blade and then... closed his eyes.
The two mantises followed their inherent attack patterns, and almost instantly, as he closed his eyes, they leaped towards him, slashing with their blades from both sides!
Chen Chuan took a sharp breath, and in a flash, the Forge Breathing Method brought a surge of power into his body. He spun in place, and a blade light flashed as he slashed!
The two mantises leaped past him on both sides, and as they were still in mid-air, their bodies slowly slid apart. A vertical slash from top to bottom split them open, and their internal liquid tissue flowed out, while their limbs and separated bodies continued to twitch on the ground.
