Chapter 185: The Ancient One and Kamar-Taj (1st Update)
Chapter 185: The Ancient One and Kamar-Taj (1st Update)
Of course, these things weren't really important to him. Whatever Odin's plans were, they didn't affect him much.
All he needed to know was that Loki would be imprisoned in the dungeon for twenty years. After that, he wouldn't have to worry about his true identity being exposed.
However, his recent actions had completely disrupted the plot of Avengers One, which he knew so well. Without Loki, it was uncertain whether Thanos would still send his army to Earth.
He supposed Thanos would still come, given his need to collect the Infinity Stones. But who would he send, and when, remained a mystery.
Well, there was no point in overthinking it. He'd deal with the situation as it came. As long as he was strong enough, he could handle anyone!
And with the Bifrost still intact, Asgard might even send reinforcements to Earth. So, it was hard to say whether this was a good or bad thing.
"We're here!"
Thor's announcement brought Jerry's attention to a massive golden gate, towering a hundred meters high, standing before him.
Honestly, the Asgardians had a real love for gold. Most of the soldiers' armor and weapons were gold, the gates were gold, the floors were gold, the walls were gold, and from high above, most of Asgard glimmered with a golden sheen.
As two Asgardian soldiers pushed open the gate, a vast temple came into view before Jerry.
At the far end of the temple sat Odin, the mightiest being in the Nine Realms and the most powerful entity Jerry had encountered so far.
"Your Majesty, Odin, I am Jerry Carmen, a wizard from Midgard!"
Jerry stepped forward and dispelled the Illusion Transformation Spell, revealing his true identity.
Facing Odin, the Allfather, a being of immense power, Jerry felt it was best to be honest. Besides, he suspected that even if he didn't dispel the spell, Odin could still see his true form.
Thor, standing nearby, was startled to see Jerry transform from a little girl into a young boy.
"How are you...?"
"Sorry, Thor, I've been using Illusion Magic to hide my identity, mainly to avoid S.H.I.E.L.D. finding out and endangering my family. They are just ordinary humans, and they are very vulnerable."
Jerry turned to Thor and explained.
Thor nodded, recalling that Jane had told him about S.H.I.E.L.D.'s attempts to seize her research notes and equipment. It was Jerry who had intervened and helped her keep them.
"It's no problem, friend. Actually, this is better. When you're older, we can drink together. The ale in Asgard is no worse than what you have down in Midgard!"
To Thor, whether Jerry was a boy or a girl didn't matter. Jerry had helped him in his time of need, and that made him a good friend.
Thor's large hand gave Jerry a friendly pat, causing him to stumble. Jerry replied with a helpless smile:
"Next time, I'll definitely try it!"
His physical strength was twice that of an ordinary human, but Thor, now restored to his full might, was far stronger.
"Alright, Thor, be careful with your strength. A mage's body isn't as resilient as yours!"
Odin's stern face broke into a slight smile:
"Jerry Carmen, thank you for your help. Without you, Loki might have made a grave mistake, plunging the Nine Realms into chaos. How can I reward you?"
"Your Majesty, you're too kind. Thor and I are friends, and this was nothing. I don't need any reward, just a ride back to Midgard via the Bifrost!"
Jerry shook his head, his face earnest.
The situation was looking great. He had become friends with Thor, the future King of Asgard, and helped Asgard secure the Bifrost, earning Odin's favor.
At this point, he wasn't really concerned about rewards.
After all, maintaining a good relationship with Asgard meant he had gained a powerful ally, providing him with a solid backing.
And with Thor around, he would have plenty of opportunities to learn and study Asgardian Magic in the future.
So, when he said he wasn't interested in the reward, it was genuine, not just a polite gesture.
"Odin, Jerry loves to study Magic. I think we should give him some of our Asgardian magic books!"
At that moment, Thor remembered his earlier promise to Jerry and quickly suggested it.
"Nice one, Hammer Bro!"
Jerry silently praised Thor in his heart.
Although he wasn't particularly concerned about the reward and would have opportunities to study Asgardian Magic in the future, that was only relatively speaking.
If Thor offered the magic books himself, it would be better to get them now without compromising his image.
"Magic, the Magic of Kamar-Taj, is no less impressive than our Asgardian Magic!"
Odin's face showed a hint of confusion at this.
When it came to the study of Magic, the founder of Kamar-Taj, the Ancient One, was a being even Odin respected.
Compared to Midgard, which specialized in the study of Magic, Asgard was not particularly renowned for its Magic.
Asgardians were known for their powerful bodies and the special divine energy they possessed, like Odin's formidable Odinforce.
While Asgardian Magic was not uncommon, it was not their primary combat ability and was mostly used for logistical and support purposes.
Even Loki, known as a sorcerer, rarely used Magic in battle, preferring to use Illusion Magic and cloning techniques, and often favored close combat with a dagger.
"Kamar-Taj? What's Kamar-Taj?"
While Odin was puzzled by Jerry's interest in Asgardian Magic as a Kamar-Taj sorcerer, Jerry was even more confused about what Kamar-Taj was.
"Don't you know Kamar-Taj? Aren't you a sorcerer from Kamar-Taj?"
In Odin's view, a sorcerer with such outstanding Magic abilities like Jerry was likely from the Mage's hub, Kamar-Taj. He was surprised that Jerry didn't even know about it.
"Your Majesty Odin, I learned Magic by accident and am not from Kamar-Taj. Could you tell me what Kamar-Taj is?"
Jerry was completely baffled. From Odin's tone, it seemed he had assumed Jerry was a Kamar-Taj sorcerer.
Could there really be a powerful Magic hub on Earth that even Odin respected, one that hadn't appeared in the Avengers One?
"Kamar-Taj, that is the temple of the Ancient One and the gathering place of Midgard's Mages, containing countless secrets of Magic!"
Odin then briefly explained the history of Kamar-Taj and the Ancient One to Jerry.
It was then that Jerry realized that Earth indeed had more than just him as a Mage. There was a group of Mages, led by the Ancient One, who was so powerful that even Odin spoke of her with a hint of respect.
